This is the new Doctor [NSFW]

Peter Capaldi has been selected as the new Doctor Who.

Let’s hope he unleashes this sort of shock and awe onto the Daleks and Cybermen.

And the new Doctor is … Peter Capaldi.

The bookies’ favourite has become the 12th actor to inherit the keys to the Tardis, taking over from outgoing Doctor Matt Smith.

Capaldi, 55, is best known to TV audiences as the profanity-spilling, psychopathic spin doctor Malcolm Tucker in the UK comedy The Thick of It, although it’s unlikely we’ll see that side of the Scottish actor when he battles Daleks and Cybermen. (For those who want that, search for the hashtag #tuckerwholines on Twitter.)

Capaldi is no stranger to the Who universe: He guest-starred in the fourth season episode The Fires of Pompeii and has played roles in several Who spin-offs.

Showrunner Steven Moffat described the Doctor as one of “the biggest roles in British television”.
