The Borg come from deep space and send out ‘fake’ distress signals to attract and absorb other tech/biology/knowledge

There’s a restaurant in Pittsburgh which serves international cuisine from countries the US is in conflict with. It works on a 6 month rotation – currently it’s Cuban.
Cuba is rooted in cube, which is the shape of a Borg space vessel (this is the longest bow I’m drawing)
EDIT: Total rubbish: The name Cuba comes from the Taíno language. The exact meaning of the name is unclear but it may be translated either as where fertile land is abundant (cubao), or great place (coabana). But hey, cube and cuba are almost the same. right? right?

8.5 billion recyclable cans were sold in California in 2011 and 8.3 billion cans were recycled in the state. That’s not necessarily a good thing for Californians. (source)
Recycles cans are crushed in a compactor and take on the same sort of cube shape as a Borg space vessel

When George Lucas visited Scorcese’s massive ‘Gangs of New York’ set he was unimpressed and told him those sorts of sets can be done on computers now’
George Lucas is behind the Star Wars francise that was born from the Roddenberry Star Trek franchise that the Borg belong to.

    (and the actual entry)
There is something called the ‘Global Consciousness Project’ which claims that random number generators around the world produce sequences which are less random when global events “synchronise the feelings of millions of people”.

The Borg have a hive mind, once one individual learns something, everyone else connected to the hive instantly knows also.

EDIT: PS: If this isn’t worth a bonus point I’m going to sulk.

      Impressed bud 8-

      • Sometimes my lateral mind is a curse :)

        • OrphanIsland

          Can imagine m8 , it’s the wash of silence that I seek….

    • James Howlett

Nice. And to think I almost used a picture of Bjorn Borg.

      • That would have been too cryptic for me I suspect.

    • GregM

Have a bonus point, and a chocolate chippie, and take tomorrow off. :-)

  • Incidentally, the repercussions of the Global Consciousness Project are quite far reaching. Not only did the randomness decrease well beyond statistical expectations, it also started to do so WELL BEFORE the twin towers were hit on 9/11. This is hard data. People generally prefer to ignore it as it messes with the implications of what time and consciousness really are.

  • steve and monique

Borg. A hive mentality with only a single brain directing all functions. Sounds like Labour.

    • James Howlett

I guess – but the Borg are also well coordinated, successful, and capable of assimilating new ideas and technology…

      • steve and monique

Hell got that badly wrong then,my bad

  • James Howlett

Petal is correct on the hive mind connection. And appears have locked into the hive mind himself. And gets a bonus point.

  • Paranormal

At a company induction back in 2006 we newbies were asked by the company compliance officer, “why do we have compliance?” In a genuine attempt to answer the question I helpfully responded “To become one with the Borg”. Brought the house down…

we made some random number generators years ago, the only real issue here is that you have to program the randomness…..therefore not true random
