The Huddle at 1740

I am on Larry Williams show The Huddle tonight, with Josie Pagani.

Our topics are:

The referendum on asset sales will be held. Apparently the cost of having it as a stand alone vote would be $31 million. The cost of tagging it on to a general election would be $9 million. Either way it does feel like the horse has bolted and there’s nothing to be gained through holding a NON-binding referendum on an issue whereby assets have already been sold. Labour and the Greens are claiming a victory.

Then we have the Labour party leadership race on – and that’s turning out to be a messy little affair. I can’ t for the life of me see how this whole voting system is good for the party. They are running off at the mouth saying they’re going to do all of these things – which are fiscally impossible – and they’re not even the leader yet – let alone the Prime Minister. The other issue is that if it’s Cunliffe or Robertson who win they’re only going to be likely to take votes off the Greens – and that’s not where elections are won or lost! This whole spectacle of them cannibalising each other is quite unseemly and doesn’t exactly bode well for the future.

Speaking of how to lose elections – can we just call the Australian one? We all know that Rudd doesn’t have a hope in hell so I’m not sure why there’s still any campaigning going on. I guess the only hope for Rudd is that he doesn’t lose by too much. That can’t be a nice feeling. But even in the preferred PM stakes, Abbott’s just overtaken him as well.

Listen online, and I will post the audio tomorrow.

Rudd believes waiting for the fat lady to sing.

  • surfisup

Key announced asset sales would happen before the last general election.

People voted for national knowing this, so why do we need a referendum.

Just give me the 31 million and each time I see a homeless person I’ll give them 5 dollars. Better than wasting it on nothing.

  • surfisup

I wonder what will happen to Rudd post electoin. I would imagine he will be given the big heave ho.

    • Col

      Who cares?

  • Michael

So Russel is also going to campaign on revoking the changes to Section 69 of the Crimes Act? After all, it will probably have more votes in favour of restoring Section 69 than the anti Asset Sales vote.

  • Col

Well said Cam, one vote counts, as any normal person would know, Russell Norman acts like a spoiled child. And as we have heard, people think it is ridiculous spending millions to help his ego.

    • Agent BallSack

Russel is merely a sideshow. Parliament allows for this and if its a waste of money, then as much a waste as the cannabis and smacking or MMP referendums. Wait I totally fucking agree with you. They should be legally binding as indication of how the public want the country run.

After Larry Williams spoke to Norm the Aussie Red, earlier, Larry said the texted descriptions of the ginga-commie were abusive to the point of being unreadable on the radio.

    • cows4me

Yes such a shame some of the more descriptive texts couldn’t be read. He’s like the guest that has over stayed his welcome and refuses to go home.

  • RightOfGenghis

I seem to recall the greens gave the anti-smacking referendum the two-finger salute because they know best. Pot, kettle…

  • BJ

I don’t care how ‘nice’ Josie is, I find her viewpoint usually weak and uninformed. Is this the best opposition commenter they are ever going to put Cam on radio with?

  • Goldie

The communists and socialists want a referendum – give them the best referendum there is – SNAP ELECTION.

    • Col

Piss Dot con off wouldn’t have any party ready to go.

  • RAS

Hey Cam, where do you actually post the audio for the Huddle?
