Brown didn’t pay with council cash but did take freebies for hotels

No wonder Len Brown is happy for a whitewash inquiry over expenses…he didn’t pay…he did however take freebies for the hotel rooms for his roots, all based on the fact of his position as Mayor.

Bevan Chuang is confident Len Brown will be cleared by a spending inquiry in the wake of their extra-marital affair, saying he paid for everything out of his own pocket.

However, she believed that some of the rooms he booked for the pair were offered free of charge by hotel managers.

Auckland Council chief executive Doug McKay yesterday announced an inquiry into Mr Brown’s spending in the wake of the sex scandal.

Ms Chuang said she met Mr Brown three times at the Langham, SkyCity Grand and Hilton hotels for sex after collecting the keys to the rooms from reception at the Town Hall.

So once again we have Len Brown using council resources…which we already wrote about, but it is worth repeating…staff at reception to hold key cards for Bevan Chuang to collect in order to conduct his illicit and sneaky affair.

But the revelation that the rooms were complimentary is more damaging. Although no money changed hands it is obvious as the nose on everyone’s face that the complimentary rooms provided to the mayor were because of his position and could easily now be as a secret benefit.

Further Bevan Chuang has confirmed to the Herald what she told us that they stayed at the SkyCity Grand.

Money may not have changed hands but when Len Brown has been vocal in his support for the SkyCity convention deal, and voted in favour of it, opposing Cathy Casey’s resolution opposing the deal, then you say that this actually was the same thing as receiving cash…in kind…it is exactly the same as receiving a brown paper bag of cash..instead it was disguised as a room for his rooting.

He accepted what many readers would construe as bribes by using his position as mayor to secure free rooms and refreshments.

Why? Presumably the hotels could see commercial advantages in having Len Brown using his influence to secure them council business for conferences, rooms and hospitality.

That my friends is bribery, and corruption of , by and for a public official.

Len Brown must resign.

As much at home writing editorials as being the subject of them, Cam has won awards, including the Canon Media Award for his work on the Len Brown/Bevan Chuang story. When he’s not creating the news, he tends to be in it, with protagonists using the courts, media and social media to deliver financial as well as death threats.

They say that news is something that someone, somewhere, wants kept quiet. Cam Slater doesn’t do quiet and, as a result, he is a polarising, controversial but highly effective journalist who takes no prisoners.
