Doctors playing politics… again

APEC is vitally important to NZ; even more so as a tiny country reliant on exports at the bottom of the world. It shows that NZ is part of the Asia Pacific Region.

While it’s a shame Obama couldn’t make it, nearly every other leader turned up to Bali for this years’ APEC conference.  Most people would know that attending a conference like APEC takes some planning. As Prime Minister, you don’t wake up one morning and say “ok boys let’s go to APEC this week”. It takes months and months of planning and work to make sure NZ is seen as an active participant and Key’s meeting with the Chinese President Xi Jinping are quite important.

So when a couple of doctors issue an ‘open letter’ to the PM on Friday 4th October saying John Key should boycott attending the leaders’ summit a day later it makes you wonder what are they on about.

You really have to ask why they didn’t ask for Tim Groser not to attend as well. (video)

Short answer is simple. They’re trying to play politics. And when you’re troughers sucking on the taxpayer tit, playing politics is not very clever. Not very clever indeed.

As much at home writing editorials as being the subject of them, Cam has won awards, including the Canon Media Award for his work on the Len Brown/Bevan Chuang story.  And when he’s not creating the news, he tends to be in it, with protagonists using the courts, media and social media to deliver financial as well as death threats.

They say that news is something that someone, somewhere, wants kept quiet.   Cam Slater doesn’t do quiet, and as a result he is a polarising, controversial but highly effective journalist that takes no prisoners.

He is fearless in his pursuit of a story.

Love him or loathe him.  But you can’t ignore him.
