This would be funny if they weren’t so serious

Kim Dotcom will appear in television advertisements to promote internet provider Orcon, but experts say his message that broadband data caps are the product of “bullies” should be taken with a pinch of salt.

Orcon has paid Dotcom a US$35,000 “talent fee” to appear in the advertisements promoting its $99 “unlimited” broadband plans.

Data poverty.

Dotcom’s appearance for Orcon is the more remarkable given the internet provider was owned by the Crown until March, when it was sold off by state-owned enterprise Kordia.

The Crown is co-operating with United States authorities to extradite Dotcom on copyright and “racketeering” charges.

“We chose him to join us on the campaign because he is passionate about better internet for New Zealanders, is an expert when it comes to the internet, and is a customer of Orcon,” McAlister said.

Orcon have seriously misread Krim Dotcon’s popularity here.  And trivialising issues such as Child Poverty this way is just bad marketing.

I know of two people who have walked from Orcon just recently.  How many do you know?

Orcon is a dog of a company. As an online gamer who prioritizes low latency, unshaped traffic, I found the quality of their service terrible. Even Xtra was far better, and SNAP! with their UFB service is the best. Anyone who stays with Orcon is a sap.

Is he supposed to be suffocating that boy?

    • richard.b

      Thought the same

    • SteveWrathall

No, just a “playful tiff” of the Charles Saatchi variety.

Now I suppose we will also have data inequality (the widening bandwidth between rich and poor, and data penal reform (allowing Mr Lundy to watch the Privy Council rule on his case from his cell).

Orcon – paying convicted fraudsters since 2013

  • James Growley

Orcon paid the mongrel $35,000?? Are they mad – this will not float their boat.

  • James Growley

And, I hope that poor kid was whisked away to be sanitised – god knows where that mongrel’s hands have been.

      On David Fisher’s shoulders

  • Sir Cullen’s Sidekick

I understand all Labour and Green supporters will be joining Orcon en masse….

  • Garbageman

looks like the face of a filthy criminal hidng in NZ because the US wants to hang his fat ass out on a gibbet….i could be wrong

  • AnonWgtn

Sounds like they are both a couple of Cons.

  • Seems to me that Orcon are showing such poor judgement that an exodus of users, en masse, is warranted without delay. If you are paying Orcon you are giving money to the Fat German! Vote them the message with your feet!

    • Mr_V4

Why? Their service offering is great VDSL/Fibre etc. Recently won a most satisfied customer award …

Orcon are about to receive what they deserve. It must be run by the same bunch of kids that gave us seven sharp. Dumped them over 12 months ago because of there dismal service and hopefully snap won’t go down the same path. Orcon and kimcon are bum buddies that have finally found each other and I wish them both septacemia.

  • Mr_V4

Borrowed the green party high horse have we?

  • Feck

If I had an ounce of respect for DotDash I’d have lost it as soon as he teamed up Orcon. They deserve each other – both a total waste of space.

  • Bafacu

Time to research my options. Unfortunately the data caps of most put me off!
