This would be funny if they weren’t so serious

Kim Dotcom will appear in television advertisements to promote internet provider Orcon, but experts say his message that broadband data caps are the product of “bullies” should be taken with a pinch of salt.

Orcon has paid Dotcom a US$35,000 “talent fee” to appear in the advertisements promoting its $99 “unlimited” broadband plans.

Data poverty.

Dotcom’s appearance for Orcon is the more remarkable given the internet provider was owned by the Crown until March, when it was sold off by state-owned enterprise Kordia.

The Crown is co-operating with United States authorities to extradite Dotcom on copyright and “racketeering” charges.

“We chose him to join us on the campaign because he is passionate about better internet for New Zealanders, is an expert when it comes to the internet, and is a customer of Orcon,” McAlister said.

Orcon have seriously misread Krim Dotcon’s popularity here.  And trivialising issues such as Child Poverty this way is just bad marketing.

I know of two people who have walked from Orcon just recently.  How many do you know?

As much at home writing editorials as being the subject of them, Cam has won awards, including the Canon Media Award for his work on the Len Brown/Bevan Chuang story. When he’s not creating the news, he tends to be in it, with protagonists using the courts, media and social media to deliver financial as well as death threats.

They say that news is something that someone, somewhere, wants kept quiet. Cam Slater doesn’t do quiet and, as a result, he is a polarising, controversial but highly effective journalist who takes no prisoners.

He is fearless in his pursuit of a story.
