Ice free Arctic isn’t, another prediction fail for warming alarmists

Al Gore and Tim Flannery and most of the world’s media shamelessly predicted that the ice would be all gone from the Arctic by this year.

It hasn’t gone, in fact that has been a massive recovery in the extent of Arctic ice, which alarmists warned would happen.

I watched the “IPCC Outreach Workshop” streamed from Wellington last Friday
Loss of Arctic sea ice is about the only thing left in the “likely” scenarios for the doom-mongers.

So if this doesn’t happen, and rapid warming doesn’t resume, there isn’t much left

At least they can console themselves with a very real fear: that their rort is falling apart steadily.

  • sheppy

Someone should have told the Gweens little boy yesterday afternoon when he was wingeing and whining in parliament about how the IPCC was so sure that we were all totally doomed if we took anything out of the ground and burned it. The hypocrisy and untruths he was spounting were incredible!

Why do the bullshit artists always seem to get away with it. Where’s Key and his side kicks Gluckman and Smith, what say you three. Just three more socialists who see taking vast amounts of wealth from the population as the only way to govern.

    • philbest

Gluckman is the socialist, Key and Smith are “Tories In Name Only”.

This has been posted on WO before but it is worth repeating from the SUmmary for Pollicymakers

“No best estimate for equilibrium climate sensitivity can now be given
because of a lack of agreement on values across assessed lines of
    evidence and studies”

Are we not guilty of clutching at straws ourselves?
I mean, slipping back to ‘4th lowest’ doesn’t make a ‘cooling trend’? Are you saying that the glaciers in Iceland and most other places still aren’t melting? Or am I a ‘denier’?

    • Nah bud, just impatient 8-)

“…….Is it getting warmer at the North Pole? Soundings and meteorological tests taken by the Soviet explorers who returned this week to Murmansk, Russia’s sole ice-free Arctic port, concluded that near Polar temperatures are on average six degrees(C) higher than registered by Nansen 40 years ago. Ice measurements were on average only 6½ feet against from 9¼ to 13 feet…..”

      From a report in 1940…….

Plenty more there. No ad hominems about the site, please. Just engage with the data.

Does anyone here seriously believe the ice is making a comeback? It’s half the thickness it was back in the 50’s. Have a look at this page and you will see there is a clear downward trend http://arctic.atmos.uiuc.edu/cryosphere/arctic.sea.ice.interactive.html
And Flannery never said it would be gone by this year. That’s just plain bollocks.

I guess it is time to implement 10cents eco tax on Petrol to make more money fellows!

The berms in Auckland are being harvested for biofuels – all part of Lens Grand Plan to save us all.

    CAM…!!!

“…..in fact that has been a massive recovery in the extent of Arctic ice, which alarmists warned would happen……”

You mean, which SKEPTICS warned would happen……

  • philbest

We are drowning in skeptical evidence, but here is another goodie:

    http://opinion.financialpost.com/2013/10/08/climate-forecast-alls-well-despite-what-the-ipcc-says/

“…..Is it surprising that the government would respond to an alarm lacking scientific support? In our study of situations that are analogous to the current alarm over scenarios of global warming we identified 26 earlier movements based on scenarios of manmade disaster, including the global cooling alarm in the 1960s. None of them were based on scientific forecasts. Yet governments imposed costly policies in response to 23 of them. In no case did the forecast of major harm come true.

We predict that the global warming movement will eventually fade like all the others but that, also like the others, harmful policies will remain. We hope we are wrong…..”

  • Tom

Umm the last three years, including 2013, have all still been below the 2000s average. One year with slightly higher (though still low) ice coverage does not constitute a significant recovery.
