It isn’t about winning or losing, it is about doing the right thing

Nice to get some feedback from someone that doesn’t share any of my politics, but at least can see through all the smoke and mirrors that Len Brown’s Spin  Monkeys are putting up with the help of a complicit media.

Afternoon Cam,

You’re getting a lot of negative attention for the Brown stuff, and I thought I’d send you a message of support.

The Len Brown reveal is about facts. It’s not you ranting about teachers and unions – stuff that you could validly be criticised for. You revealed something to the public, something that is most assuredly not someone’s “private life.” People will rant about “two consenting adults” but when there are such power disparities as the mayor and an aspiring politician, even consent becomes a structural myth.

You shone sunlight on some unethical, dishonest behaviour. As a socialist I think the one thing that separates us from the rightists is our higher moral code; we believe in altruism not selfishness. And when a self-appointed champion of the left acts dishonestly, how can we claim the moral high ground? How can we say WE care about the poor, the uneducated, the underfed, when we show such moral decrepitude in other areas?

Thanks, Cam.

Reclaiming The Left

Thanks for that.   It is nice to know that there are people to whom doing the right thing isn’t a left/right issue.

As much at home writing editorials as being the subject of them, Cam has won awards, including the Canon Media Award for his work on the Len Brown/Bevan Chuang story.  And when he’s not creating the news, he tends to be in it, with protagonists using the courts, media and social media to deliver financial as well as death threats.

They say that news is something that someone, somewhere, wants kept quiet.   Cam Slater doesn’t do quiet, and as a result he is a polarising, controversial but highly effective journalist that takes no prisoners.

He is fearless in his pursuit of a story.

Love him or loathe him.  But you can’t ignore him.
