Welfare for academic wasters

The annual trough-fest for academic wasters, loons, nut jobs and troughers has just been announced…and boy are there some whack jobs getting government coin.

Take the $300,000 awarded to Dr Moewaka-Barnes of Massey University to study the “Affect and identity in contemporary television drama”.

How about the $847,826 being paid to Dr Atkinson of the University of Auckland to study “Tongues, trees and Bayesian inference – towards a global language phylogeny”?

Or $521,739 to Dr Abbenhuis at the University of Auckland to study something that has been extensively studied for nearly 100 years – “A global history of the Hague Peace Conferences, 1899 – 1914”?

And who can go past the $826,087 to Professor Brunton at Massey University to study “Untangling genes and culture: sex-based song traditions in New Zealand bellbirds”?

The list goes on and on and on for millions of dollars on useless shit.

As much at home writing editorials as being the subject of them, Cam has won awards, including the Canon Media Award for his work on the Len Brown/Bevan Chuang story. When he’s not creating the news, he tends to be in it, with protagonists using the courts, media and social media to deliver financial as well as death threats.

They say that news is something that someone, somewhere, wants kept quiet. Cam Slater doesn’t do quiet and, as a result, he is a polarising, controversial but highly effective journalist who takes no prisoners.

He is fearless in his pursuit of a story.

Love him or loathe him, you can’t ignore him.
