Elected local government officials have a sworn duty to protect not only our democracy, but also the framework of that very process that achieves democracy, transparency and accountability.  The process & framework are there to ensure no one is enabled, or is capable of perverting the very “rules/laws/code of conduct/ethics/framework” for their own personal, corrupted benefit.

Subverting and “gaming” bureaucratic frameworks and processes, checks and balances that then allows & encourages further tenure & questionable behaviors from the dodgy individual – and all with unchecked productivity/spending from the same dodgy person – can only translate to hopelessly compromised Councillors also, or some might say, political corruption.

And in years past, that “further enabling” by compromised Councillors, who chose not to stop the enabling of a corrupt official, would be seen as political corruption and even treason upon the Nation.

Political corruption is bad enough. Sheltering and enabling further rorting by a compromised Mayor, by subverting those process/rules/codes/frameworks, using the bent rules to then defend and shelter the compromised individual, should also be seen as political corruption – if not Treason upon our democracy. The frameworks are there to guide for the “proper” running of a city – not to be subverted to enable sheltering and more compromised behaviours from the largesse of other corrupt, sycophantic elected officials.

A man with nothing to hide – hides nothing. So for a dodgy Mayor to hide behind an army of spin merchants, PR people & lawyers for weeks on end, not fronting or doing his full duties, can only lead to Auckland having a hopelessly compromised Mayor… with his credibility now in tatters, attaining the lofty heights similar to that of Toronto’s current Mayor.

Len is on record claiming all of this is a “private matter” so why the need for Council paid Lawyers and spin doctors with his “private matters” all done in “company time” And why did those compromised Councillors block attempts for the Mayor to re-pay the full costs rate payers have incurred in relation to his “private matters?” Why did the compromised Councillors block other Councillors from the opportunity to formally ask the corrupt Mayor if he’s made a “full disclosure”? Why are compromised Councillors sheltering a corrupt Mayor from accountability and transparency?

How do Councillors expect Auckland/NZ/The World to respect / endure such a compromised individual?

Our country has a very proud history of fighting for democracy… even sending many tens of thousands of young men to foreign lands to fight and pay with their very lives to ensure NZ remains a democracy. I’m angry that only yesterday, compromised elected officials who sided with the corrupt Mayor, can so willingly & flippantly dance on the graves of those thousands of Kiwi’s who died in foreign lands, who paid with their lives – so here today, compromised elected officials can subvert “intent” by “gaming” the process/framework/rules to enable the corrupt Mayor to avoid accountability, responsibility and acknowledgement of his political corruption. Those “maneuverings” fair reek of a tainted, coordinated political cover-up.

I’m even more angry and astounded these same compromised Councillors won’t even allow other Councillors the ability to further question the compromised Mayor about his woeful judgement, ethics, credibility and accountability. Why?

No where in the private sector would the CEO of any organisation – especially a $4 Billion organisation – be able, or allowed, or enabled by his management team to effectively enable a corrupt CEO to steal company time and funds to be used as ones personal piggy bank and to show up when and if he chooses.

And it doesn’t get any better for Auckland and NZ…

Public sector officials should have a much HIGHER standard of accountability and transparency, than those in the private sector. Yet Len’s sycophantic Councillors shelter and enable Len to avoid any accountability with their harbouring, sheltering and enabling of a Mayor who has proven himself to be hopelessly, hopelessly compromised.

It is especially repugnant and disgusting that some captured Councillors wouldn’t even allow/vote to see what other skeletons might be in Len’s closet. Especially since his past unsavoury and highly questionable behaviour’s and financial management abilities are well known to all.

With 15 out of 20 Councillors effectively turning blind eyes and deaf ears to any further corruption, whilst actively blocking 5 other, equal Councillor colleagues from formally investigating, can only mean the Auditor General and Governor General are long overdue with installing a Commissioner into Auckland for the sake of NZ’s largest city… and NZ’s reputation regarding political corruption.

15 out of 20 councillors should be so full of shame and humiliation at their lack of personal integrity and ethics, that the honourable art of Seppuku should not be an option to such shameful individuals.

As much at home writing editorials as being the subject of them, Cam has won awards, including the Canon Media Award for his work on the Len Brown/Bevan Chuang story. When he’s not creating the news, he tends to be in it, with protagonists using the courts, media and social media to deliver financial as well as death threats.
