Hold the horses – El Presidente breaks silence to tell porkies

The sound of the eagle must have got to the head of the dodgy cartel like Building Services Contractor (BSC), as today we find El Presidente Patrick Lee-Lo firing out a media release supporting his mates in the even dodgier SFWU.

Bit of a problem with Paddy’s media release  – not only is it full of porkies, but by issuing the release Paddy has effectively signaled to the BSC’s members that he’s a union stooge.

Take the comment “under the proposed legislation, smaller companies taking over a contract will be able to circumvent the law…”

Really? How is an amendment to the Bill by way of the Associated Persons clause that gives businesses with less than 19 people an exemption from the anti competitive Part 6A,  “circumventing the law”?

Short answer is it’s not. Paddy’s telling porkies and scaremongering.

Another porkie is when Paddy says “we had advocated strongly throughout the submission process…” The Fish Gang would love to see all the correspondence and hear about all the meetings the BSC has had with MPs, Ministers, and Government officials about the Bill.

They needn’t ask, as the only thing they’ll hear is the sound of the eagle.

But El Presidente has more pressing problems.

Paddy’s line that he essentially wants to keep the existing legislation to “protect vulnerable workers” will go down like a cup of cold sick with member companies rapidly moving their businesses into the lucrative franchising sector – especially as the associated persons’ clause results in these companies gaining exemptions from Part 6A.

So incensed is Paddy about this, and his fight with the franchising sector, he goes out of his way not to mention them in his release. Maybe he doesn’t want to cop it in the slats again from them.

One thing is for sure, OCS boss James Fletcher will be spitting out his cornflakes when realises the $20,000 that OCS is getting tucked from the BSC each year, is being used to undermine OCS franchise businesses model.

More explaining by El Presidente is on the cards. And we all know that explaining is losing.
