Obama gives bird blenders 30 year licence to kill eagles

I hate wind power…it junks up the view, makes an unholy racket and slaughters birds, in particular raptors.

But Obama has now given the companies running bird blenders a 30 year licence to kill eagles.

The Obama administration has just given wind turbine operators the license to kill birds and eagles for 30 years, a move welcomed by the wind industry but derided by environmentalists and Republicans.

The Interior Department changed a rule that now enables the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to extend the amount of time renewable energy companies can kill migratory birds and eagles in a bid to boost green energy development. Wind operators can now get a permit to kill birds for 30 years, up from five years.

“Eagles symbolize America’s national heritage and deserve more protection, not less. This rule change will make it harder to protect the remaining eagles that San Diegans love,” said Donna Tisdale, secretary of the environmental group Protect Our Communities Foundation.

The permitting extension would allow renewable energy companies to kill a specified number of birds and eagles at their facilities for 30 years, but only if those bird deaths were unintentional and if companies made efforts to minimize avian deaths.

The Obama administration has been repeatedly criticized by the environmentalists and Republicans for allowing wind turbine sites to kill hundreds of thousands of birds annually with no legal punishment. In particularly, while oil, gas and electrical companies were being heavily fined for killing birds.

“Permits to kill eagles just seems unpatriotic, and 30 years is a long time for some of these projects to accrue a high death rate,” said Louisiana Republican Sen. David Vitter. “The Administration has repeatedly prosecuted oil, gas, and other businesses for taking birds, but looks the other way when wind farms or other renewable energy companies do the exact same thing.”

For Christ sake Whale. Your the biggest killer of birds I know.

  • ratmuncher

Overseas’, wind turbines are the green’s preferred method of killing raptors . Here it is 1080.

This is nothing, the biggest threat facing humanity is now Al Gore’s Manbearpig.

  • Dick Brown

Humans are a treacherous, greedy lot.

Yes…yes we are. Curse you sentience…(shakes fist at sky).

Although the ‘green energy’ thing is laudable in its ideology, sadly, it is nothing but laughable in its total lack of efficiency!
Obviously, the Rena situation was an incident that none of us would ever want to see repeated – but as long as there are two people on the face of this planet, accidents will happen! In saying that, I would be intrigued to know the total number of bird deaths attributed to the Rena compared to those that are blended by these inefficient, gween ego massaging blights on our landscape?!
Don’t get me wrong, progress comes first. If the wind turbines were efficient, I could live with the loss of bird life and the visual/noise pollution – but they are not!

If as many birds were killed by an oil spill the green’s would be screaming blue murder.

Canadian anti wind farm campaigner Esther Wrightman videoed a tree being chopped down that contained the nest of a Bald Eagle.

The felling was undertaken by wind company Next Era, who have now placed a multi million dollar lawsuit on this person for placing the video in YouTube.

What do we hear from the Greens on this?

    nothing, absolute silence.

    • Cowgirl

Someone posted on here about Jeanette Fitzsimons having shares in a wind company, so you’re probably not going to hear much from them on this.

    • Is the video still online?

Reminds me of McLibel. Where MacDonald s took some one to court for saying there food was crap. Spent something like $6,000,000 to get a $150,000 judgement.

Multi national corporations are big enough to even take on Governments.

I can’t believe OSH and the Greens haven’t insisted on putting a sign on each ” turbine ” saying ” don’t fly into the blades as it may hurt “. or maybe they are still putting the committee together and sorting out the conference venue to discuss the best translation into ” bald eaglese “..
Even better we could ‘ strap’ a greenie to each blade and they could personally tell each Eagle to beware..
The greenies blind / unquestioned and often idiotic pursuit of “sustainability” seems to know no bounds, and of course it’s okay for them to kill a few animals in the process, but BEWARE should some ‘ Westcoast mining company ‘ upset a few snails during their business practice.

  • LeftRightWrong

Save the bird but let people run around with guns and “hunt” what they want right? even if its not for food.

For Marxists like, comrade Obama, ideology trumps everything else. It is the prefect example of Marx, Engels and Lenin’s teachings-collateral damage for the greater good. This is how utopia works.

    • S P

Utopia , I think I passed through their on my way to Rotorua the other day and my car automatically changed into a ‘horse drawn” cart and i had an overwhelming desire to sing ‘Kumbiyah”.
