Royal Federation of New Zealand Justices gives Len the A-OK

The Herald’s controversial left-wing gurnard adds the following as a footnote to an attempted hit piece on Cameron Brewer.

The relevance escapes me, but it is of interest to Whaleoil readers where the idea of getting Len Brown dealt to under the standards of being an automatic JP because it comes with the job as a Mayor.

Mayor Len Brown is a justice of the peace – a group considered to uphold the highest ethical standards.

But those standards don’t apply to Mr Brown, according to the Royal Federation of New Zealand Justices.

Federation registrar Alan Hart JP said a small number of emails had been received taking issue with Mr Brown’s role as a JP, which he is automatically granted as mayor of a local body.

Mr Hart said that JPs appointed as a result of their roles were not covered by the federation’s rules, including its code of conduct.

You have to wonder what sort of “non-corrupt” country we live in when we have a Mayor that doesn’t answer to a Code of Conduct, isn’t covered by RFNZJ rules or code of conduct, and is essentially untouchable until he sits in a jail somewhere convicted of a crime.

If there is one thing that the electorate doesn’t like it is a situation where elected officials are receiving benefits and are subject to less or different rules than you or I.  Although it may be correct “on paper”, the troughing and overt sense of entitlement causes the public to become upset beyond the “letter of the law”.

Len Brown has crossed that threshold well and truly by now.  Most people would have forgiven him his rooting.  Up to a point it appears his 2nd wife was aware and allowed it, so why should we get in the way of the man’s need to be a sexual ambassador for All of Auckland.

But his lack of genuine contrition, the pattern of using rules as guidelines, and hanging on to the job by apologising when he gets his hand stuck in the cookie jar has eroded the man’s mana to zero in the eyes of all but the most zealous supporters.

The fact that Len Brown holds office where he doesn’t even have to follow the rules set for the roles he performs is just cringeworthy.  It is 3rd world tin pot dictator stuff.

This whole thing is a farce that needs fixing. Time for an amendment allowing for recall elections.
