Len Brown’s Secret “Gifts and Inducements” Register?

The tipline is hot with news of a committee in Len Brown’s Auckland Council running a “register of gifts and inducements”.

It’s for a committee that spends over $10 million a year of ratepayers’ money, mainly on liberal elite luvvies in  the arts like opera and plays and string quartets. The sort of stuff David Farrar would get free tickets to.

But – get this – the committee’s “register of gifts and inducements” is secret!

If you ask for it under the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987, the committee’s secretary tells you the “register of gifts and inducements” is secret.

Has anyone else ever heard of a secret disclosure register?

Does Len Brown know which of the members of his committee have received what “gifts and inducements”?

And from whom?

And why?

More later.
