What 22.4% means to Labour… ctd

Some insight from the West Coast

I don’t think Labour have kissed goodbye to WCT [West Coast-Tasman]. They are putting a lot in to it and are fighting dirty.

Last week they flew in almost their whole front bench – Ardern, Cosgrove, Parker, Cunliffe, Little.

Cunliffe tried to cash in on Richard Seddon, making a very tenuous family connection and trying to say Labour was the descendant of the Liberals. I don’t know about you but I seem to remember that the Liberals transformed in to Reform who became the National Political Coalition – becoming National in 1936. I also remember them keeping a lid on the unions. Mind you, Seddon’s Old Age Pension Act didn’t pay to Chinese so I can see the link with Cunliffe there.

As for dirty they have been slinging much about Maureen Pugh’s record as mayor of Westland – despite the fact that the numbers show Westland is now the best off council on the coast, and hardly as bad as Tasman.

When David Parker came off the plane he went straight to the Hokitika Guardian offices to make a statement about council debt. Would have thought the prospective Minister of Finance would have better things to do.

The local papers are so biassed they don’t count as journalists and have done Labour’s work repeating the slurs. The Greymouth Star has no editorial independence – every morning Tony Kokshoorn comes down to make sure they’re printing what he wants.

Just like the last 2 elections WCT will party vote National.

People here know that Labour and the Greens would destroy the Coast, and they don’t trust Cunliffe.

But Labour are doing their best to slur and misrepresent Maureen so they can get Damien in again.

And what a waste that would be – yeah, Damien’s a nice guy, but he’s tired and past it and should really be put out to pasture. And if he got in WCT would be stuck with a useless MP for another 3 years.

It rips Labour’s undies that the birthplace of the Labour Movement are simply too scared to have them in Government.  Even Coasters know that a Labour/Green government are just going to kill them with bans, legislation and unbearable taxes.   All they can look forward to then is a steady train of campervans going from relic to ruin and hope they buy some “West Coast Jade” that isn’t actually imported from China.

As much at home writing editorials as being the subject of them, Cam has won awards, including the Canon Media Award for his work on the Len Brown/Bevan Chuang story. When he’s not creating the news, he tends to be in it, with protagonists using the courts, media and social media to deliver financial as well as death threats.

They say that news is something that someone, somewhere, wants kept quiet. Cam Slater doesn’t do quiet and, as a result, he is a polarising, controversial but highly effective journalist who takes no prisoners.

He is fearless in his pursuit of a story.
