Wednesday morning mailbag

Some good work going on out there.  The Ground Crew rules!   Some more coming later today too, but check this one out:

Cam & team,

Seeing the Herald are running an-anti Key line I thought I would provide this Herald analysis for you. Please use / discard as you see fit.

At the start of they election campaign I thought I would analyse both your content and that of the Herald.

You are open and honest about your affiliations, which is why I read you, but the Herald holds itself up as the bastion of the Free Press here in New Zealand.

A Yeah right moment if ever we needed one.

So every day I screen captured the Herald politics headlines and the trend became apparent after only 1 week.

1/ Every story on Key is either negative or connected with dirty politics.
2/ every picture is showing strain / ageing or funny face.
3/ David Cunliffe is taken at his word and NO questioning of anything he says.
4/ Right aligned minor parties are ridiculed, Left aligned are paragons of virtue
5/ Dotcom features almost exclusively as a “white Knight” character. Everything he says is true, everyone else is wrong.

I was also hoping to capture the cartoons but gave up after a week as they were so anti-National, anti-Key it wasn’t even possible to deny a slant.

At least with Whaleoil we know where we stand, but for the Herald to claim anything other than media bias is absurd. Proof is attached. [See link at bottom]

I honestly hope that post election there is some serious consequences for those involved in the whole dirty politics, stolen data fiasco.

And I would like to see the Herald have to declare its coverage as part of the electoral spending.

And in the interests of being open and honest, yes I have communicated with Whaleoil team before, and have complained to the privacy commissioner should my e-mails be included in the hacked data.

Attached file is screenshots.

Love your work!

Great job there Roxo.  Nice to have it quantified.

You’re right.  I choose silly photos or good ones because it back the story and it aligns with the fact that you know where I stand.  But “media” still pretend balance, and that has to stop if they want to stop losing readers.   Readers do not “get it” how the Herald can pretend to be balanced but they are somehow always bashing the team you’re trying to support.

As much at home writing editorials as being the subject of them, Cam has won awards, including the Canon Media Award for his work on the Len Brown/Bevan Chuang story.  And when he’s not creating the news, he tends to be in it, with protagonists using the courts, media and social media to deliver financial as well as death threats.

They say that news is something that someone, somewhere, wants kept quiet.   Cam Slater doesn’t do quiet, and as a result he is a polarising, controversial but highly effective journalist that takes no prisoners.

He is fearless in his pursuit of a story.

Love him or loathe him.  But you can’t ignore him.
