But does it have a soul…

A ginger Kiwi chick?

The only question that needs asking is…Does it have a soul?

Kiwis are rare enough as it is, but an even rarer bird has been born with an unusual ginger tinge to its feathers.

The chick, named Kindara, was born at Rainbow Springs’ Kiwi Encounter in Rotorua and has just been released into the Wairakei Golf and Sanctuary Kiwi Crèche in Taupo.

Rainbow Springs kiwi husbandry manager Claire Travers had never seen a chick with the unique ginger colouring.

A sibling of Kindara’s has also hatched today and also has a slight ginger tone to its plumage, though not as pronounced as Kindara’s.

The new chick has been named Kracker, after the crack in its egg when it arrived for incubation.

As much at home writing editorials as being the subject of them, Cam has won awards, including the Canon Media Award for his work on the Len Brown/Bevan Chuang story. When he’s not creating the news, he tends to be in it, with protagonists using the courts, media and social media to deliver financial as well as death threats.

They say that news is something that someone, somewhere, wants kept quiet. Cam Slater doesn’t do quiet and, as a result, he is a polarising, controversial but highly effective journalist who takes no prisoners.

He is fearless in his pursuit of a story.
