Having been away for some length of time I have just flicked through a series of NZ Herald cartoons as part of a catch up process.

Coming to them without any sense of context I have formed the following opinions. It seems to me that the individual cartoonist concerned is:

    – Mildly sympathetic to Islamic terror.

    – Anti police

    – Strongly anti John Key and mildly hateful of the same

…with an obsessive hatred of the Whale Oil blog

Is that the cartoonist, the reporters, or the paper as a whole?

    • Bruce S

…..you mean the NZ Herald is more than just a cartoon rag?

      • Just a rag, and not a particularly good one at that; poor for puppy training and my chips taste of bile when wrapped in the thing . . .

We know there exists John Key Derangement Syndrome (a term derived from BDS aka Bush Derangement Syndrome – a name invented by Charles Krauthammer to describe unhinged critics of G W Bush). So why not Whale Oil Derangement Syndrome (WODS)?

Emmerson is an odious creep with a sick view of the world – one of the reason I’ll never buy a copy of the Herald again. The other guy Body I think it is who is being referred to here is not much better. They should hire Sonovamin.

    • Kevin

Didn’t he post some blatantly anti-semitic cartoons awhile back or am I thinking about the guy the Herald was virtually forced to sack?

    • sonovaMin

Me work there again! Hell would freeze over first – but thanks for the thought.
In defence of Emerson he will be working to editorial policy but he needs to be aware of how he is coming across long term – bit of a slow boiled frog thing going on there I think.

An occasional pat on the back for the Key government wouldn’t go amiss and this vindictive stuff towards Cam is petty.

Staunch Lefties would have the same view of me as you do of Emerson. That’s the world we live in.

The Herald is beginning to remind me of The Guardian in the UK. Relentlessly left-wing, biased and negative about anything that might be regarded as ‘traditional’. It’s not yet quite as bad as the worst of the UK tabloids but it’s gradually getting there. At least they don’t as yet have Andrea Toxic Vance on their reporting staff and for that we must remain thankful.

The issue I have with this state of affairs is that in other parts of the world you have local choices and can read media with relevance to your area and with a world view closer to your own. In NZ there are no non-leftwing newspapers and few other types of media with anything other than a leftist agenda. Roll on Freed.

    When will we be FREED.

Nothing wrong with your eyesight, Lance.

  • spanishbride

Even when they are having a go at Cam they still manage to grow his legend. I love these two cartoons because who looks powerful in them? I will give you a clue, it’s not Hager LOL

  • Abjv

That’s not the cartoonist, that’s thr editorial policy.

  • Michael_l_c

The MSM haven’t got the sense to ignore WO, instead they provide more & more publicity.
Are the editors & producers on the WO payroll? Can only assume they have no idea how to run any sort of campaign.

It’s quite simple really. Either you support the likes of Hamas or you don’t. There is no grey there. If you are mildly sympathetic, you are not against terror. The really daft thing is that if you are a media outlet and you kinda, maybe, sorta, sometimes support the likes of Hamas, the first thing that the like of Hamas do when they have the support of enough of the population of a country is to control the media, yes, the ones that kinda, maybe, sorta supported them in the first place. Then who is to blame…. according to the loopy left (who kinda, maybe, sorta supported them as well) blame everyone else apart from the root cause… THEM!
