Dodgy socialist Argies using drones to catch out rich tax dodgers

The Argie government is using drones to catch out dodgy rich pricks who are rorting taxpayers on their tax returns.

The Argentine government has used drones to catch out wealthy tax evaders who had not declared mansions and swimming pools.

Unmanned aircraft were dispatched over an upper class area of Buenos Aires and discovered 200 homes and 100 pools that had not been detailed on returns.

Tax officials said the drones took pictures of luxury houses standing on lots registered as empty.

The evasions found by the drones amounted to missing tax payments of more than $2 million and owners of the properties have been warned they now face large fines.

The unregistered mansions and pools were found in an area about 10 miles south of the city and, according to the tax agency, they appeared to be large and constructed with “premium materials”.

Use of drones has been expanding in Argentina and the rest of South America with the unmanned vehicles being deployed for purposes as diverse as locating drug smuggling routes, monitoring farm crops, and looking for archaeological sites.

According to the Council on Hemispheric Affairs, most of the drone technology being sold to South American governments and companies – $500 million worth between 2005 and 2012 – comes from Israel, but drones are also being produced cheaply in Mexico.

The proliferation has raised concerns among human rights activists.

How ironic…human rights activists standing up for rich pricks.

Why not just use google earth?

They probably could for the mansions and swimming pools, but not as good at checking their crops, and following baddies.

    • You expect socialists to have brains?

Rich pricks who are that way by dodging taxes don’t get my sympathy vote.
    Death and taxes…

  • Notice we aren’t advised what the tax regime imposed looks like. I don’t like tax dodging, in principle, but it really depends. If you’ve got a tax on pools, we’d call that a fun police here…

Socialism in action. No doubt the clowns that rule Argentina have laid out millions to collect a couple of million. Perhaps if the government didn’t spend so much time trying to spread the wealth and more time letting people keep theirs they wouldn’t have to stoop to such measures. The problem here isn’t tax avoidance but what happens when you run out of other peoples money.

Well, at one stage in Ye Olde England, houses were taxed by the total size of their windows –
Apparently if you could afford to buy lots of glass you could afford to pay lots of taxes.
Otherwise your “window” reverted to the original form of the word, “wind-hole”
(and in spanish it is “Ventana”, that place for the Viento to blow through)

No one minds paying some taxes where there is a perceived and tangible (and transparent) benefit.
But when it comes down to pure wealth re-distribution (Socialism) by threat of penalty, that’s when people start to get creative with tax avoidance.
I have no objection to private Socialism. Anyone can voluntarily write out a cheque to the State or a private charity at any time.
But just don’t force me to do the same against my will.

Wonder who that belongs to. Or is it a refuge for for someone facing criminal trial.

In 1979 I was in Greece and I was amazed at the number of half finished houses. Apparently if you had permission for say a 3 storey house and you only completed 2 you didn’t pay rates until the house was finished!!!!
Also the number of swimming pools in Athens which have camouflaged covers so the spy choppers couldn’t see them and get you to pay pool tax.
Bet most of the culprits in BA are friends of the Botox Babe.
