      I had a chuckle yesterday at the news that the ACCC is on Chrisco’s case for continuing to debit bank accounts of clients who have already fully paid for their current year’s products. Hopefully Australia has strong laws on profiteering that ACCC can use to rein Chrisco in a bit.

      I did that years ago when my flatmate ordered the catalogue – everything was way more expensive than if you just went and got it up the road. Needless to say, we didn’t order.

      Talking Chrisco…….The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has instituted proceedings in the Federal Court against Chrisco Hampers Australia Limited (Chrisco) alleging contraventions of the Australian Consumer Law (ACL) involving an alleged unfair contract term, false or misleading representations, and lay-by termination charges which exceed Chrisco’s reasonable costs.

    It isn’t compulsory to buy the hampers but Countdown should be better than this. Is this a nationwide ‘deal’ or just a one-off from a greedy owner operator?

    Memo to Marketing Manager: Pull this pronto.

    Meh – all of these Xmas hampers and deals are suspect. You should be doing the maths for all deals, not just Countdown’s deals.

    had the same issue with scallops, at countdown TGA store, same treatment by the head honcho and then she directed an equally ignoramus to credit the difference, as she finished I indicated that I would rather have a full refund which induced an even more frightful look. Will never enter that store ever again.

      Yeah mine was in the old Woolworths at Bayfair. Had another bad experience there almost 3 years ago. Bought some sausages and one had a bit of broken glass in it. Took it to them with the rest of the sausages and the receipt – I bought them the night before. Had my son with me too.

      Filled in the form, sellotaped the bit of glass to it, ticked the box that said “Do you want someone to contact you” and waited. And waited. 6 weeks later I rang head office. They were confused as there’s a Countdown in the same mall. I couldn’t have made it clearer which one. They said the store manager will ring you, a week later he did and didn’t have a clue what it was about. Weong manager, wrong store.

      Long story short they “lost” the form, said they never received it. I told them the date I bought them and he said he spoke to the factory that makes them and they said they didn’t have any glass break that day so basically it never happened.

      They said they’d replace the product and refund me, but funnily I didn’t go for more sausages – then or since.

    I didn’t know that countdown & chrisco had merged.
    Just get countdown to deliver normally, ie, list the products u want on their website. Delivered & save money.

    I had the same thing happen at Countdown Three Kings. Went in to buy a bottle of milk, then added an impulse purchase of pjs on special. Because I was only buying the two things I knew that the pjs hadn’t gone through on special so I queried it. They went off to check the sign, saw it was on special and then charged me the correct amount. However, I could tell it was a nuisance that I had pointed this out to them. There were none of the common courtesies – I expected a “I’m sorry that was an error, thank you for pointing it out to us, we’ll get it fixed up straight away”. I know that mistakes happen, but just a small amount of respect and courtesy towards customers goes a long way.
