Pope’s going medieval on those Islamic State scum

Well, that may be a little over the top, because he is preaching love and light when it comes to those religious terrorist on their genocide rampage.

Pope Francis has condemned the “brutal persecution” of minorities by Islamic State insurgents in his Christmas message and urged people not to be indifferent to the suffering of so many around the world.

Tens of thousands of people turned out on St Peter’s Square to hear the Argentine pope deliver his “Urbi et Orbi” (to the city and the world) blessing and message on Thursday (local time), marking the second Christmas since his election last year.

Pope Francis also appealed for an end to conflicts in African countries, urged dialogue between Israelis and Palestinians, condemned the attack by Taliban militants that killed more than 130 students in Pakistan last week, and thanked those helping the victims of the Ebola epidemic.

But he reserved his toughest words to defend the victims of Islamic State fighters who have killed or displaced Shi’ite Muslims, Christians and others in Syria and Iraq who do not share the group’s ideologies.

“I ask him, the Saviour of the world, to look upon our brothers and sisters in Iraq and Syria, who for too long now have suffered the effects of ongoing conflict, and who, together with those belonging to other ethnic and religious groups, are suffering a brutal persecution,” he said.

“May Christmas bring them hope, as indeed also to the many displaced persons, exiles and refugees, children, adults and elderly, from this region and from the whole world,” he said.

Yeah, good one Pope-dude.  May the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ bring people in Islamic countries hope…  I’m not sure if he can see the disconnect.

I can assure you 60 SAS specialist will be meting out some practical hope where making fanciful speeches about those nasty “insurgents” won’t do stuff all.

    Send in the Swiss Guard

They’d have to change the candy stripes for camo fatigues though, otherwise they’d be seen 10 miles off in the dunes.

      • caochladh

Yes, like the idiots already there running around the dunes in woodland DPM.

Biege would be quite fetching – and not easily mistaken for black.

“I ask him, the Saviour of the world, to look upon our brothers and sisters in Iraq and Syria . . .”
    read Revelation 6:9-11

    • Revelation 6:9-11New International Version (NIV)

9 When he opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain because of the word of God and the testimony they had maintained. 10 They called out in a loud voice, “How long, Sovereign Lord, holy and true, until you judge the inhabitants of the earth and avenge our blood?”11 Then each of them was given a white robe, and they were told to wait a little longer, until the full number of their fellow servants, their brothers and sisters,[a] were killed just as they had been.

Footnotes: [a] Revelation 6:11 The Greek word for brothers and sisters (adelphoi) refers here to believers, both men and women, as part of God’s family; also in 12:10; 19:10.

Unless you can talk the walk, don’t bother opening your mouth.

alot of the persecuted in places like Jordan are of Christian heritage

The Pope is a buffoon. Infallible but a buffoon all the same!

  • Benoni

Maybe he could call up another crusade :) . His call would be like we have calls for taking war to ISIS here on Whale Oil.

Why would any rational person pray to God for peace? If God can do something
about it he doesn’t have to wait for your prayers. He presumably can see
what’s happening. Either suffering is part of His grand plan, or He can’t do
anything about it. Either way I think it’s up to the SAS.

In the good old days wasn’t the vatican a big employer of mercenaries and from there came the swiss guard?
Perhaps the pope needs to have one of his cardinals visit his bank and ‘borrow’ some $, go to their mates in the mafia & employ some mercenaries that don’t do dress up..
