In response to an online petition criticising Trade Me’s Gift Finder tool as “sexist” Trademe has tweaked their tool so that it will cater better for the non ‘ girly girl.’
The new tool was presented to the author of the petition and she was invited to search for an appropriate gift for a girl who liked building.
Suggested gifts included…

Trademe’s changes have been praised by Brian Dudman, a father of two boys, who said that the tool “made my Christmas shopping so much easier this year.”
In under ten minutes he had found the following gifts for his sons after using the search term ‘Girly Boy.

The solution was to introduce a new category… Labour Party member. There are no gifts listed in it, you just take other people’s, but in doing so you can select whatever minority group you like.

HAHAHAHA The author of that petition needs to get a life.
This was nothing more than attempt at her 5mins of fame.
I’d like to think Trade Me made that happen but of course the reality is someone else once more pandering to the whiney vocal minority.

And TradeMe says “chur” for all the free publicity, as once again the Streisand effect or law of unintended consequences kicks in.

  • Just a thought …

Nice to know that ” faux ” outrage is still alive and kicking……..

Looking at the tool kit for $20, we are useless at fixing anything but hubby bought one just like this from the warehouse for $9.99 some years ago and it is fantastic and is our only tool box.

  • ShoreRight

Would be good if a few other organisations could “tweak their tool” ….The Greens could tweak Russell, Labour has many tools it could tweak …the list goes on …

The easily outraged tried this rubbish on in Aussie, they got told where to stick their heads in a nice PC way.
My boy is getting guns! Jt splat masters x2 so we can shoot each other, basically mini paintball, because nerf guns don’t hurt enough.

Give me strength! Don’t use it then and think for yourself! Precious

I wonder if the person who started this petition would start one to stop woman only gyms or cheap drinks nights for woman etc etc

  • Jonat

Looked up “I want to spend $51 to $100 on a man who is a DIY’er” on the Trade Me Gift Search and listings for ladies tunics came up. Did I get outraged? No, I laughed!

  • Teletubby

Thank you Trade Me, I have finally managed to confirm what I have suspected all along, the Mrs does indeed want power tools for Xmas ;)

I have a feeling mine might be keen on a new rifle… Blimey, I should be thanking the petition organiser!

Whoever buys that boxed toolset is a fool. $5 at Countdown Newmarket, of all places. In fire engine red too, not Family Bar pink.

I’m a girl – this would’ve made Christmas much easier and much more fun for me!
