        To you too Don.

Is the TAB website being hacked right now? So much for my last bets ever. Might have to defer New Years resolution if this situation does not change soon.

    • Carl

I cant even log in at the moment.

  • Isherman

    For no other particular reason..

  • jude

Happy new year to the Whale oil team, readers and commenters!
Having a relaxed time here in a cottage Tukituki valley. No tv but DVD player and loads of books! Was sent a photo for those that have followed…me Jingles in flight..pic attached

Best use for the Dead tree MSM

    • Wasapilot

      Woohooo, great photo Jude.

      • jude

I missed his first flight but daughter used cell

        • Wasapilot

A rapid change from a chick to being able to fly. About to sign off for the night, beer, wine and tequila to be drunk. I maybe around tomorrow, but more likely we will be nursing each others sore heads. Happy New year Jude.

The rum pots went down a treat even though they were shaken at an early stage

          • jude

Glad to hear that! Happy New Year to you and Mrs Wasapilot! Be safe. I have to ration my time on Whale out here! I chew through my data no free wifi

    • 1951

Wow, go bird! Hope the weather has been good to you. Happy New Year.

      • jude

Same to you jude51! I hope 2015 is a brilliant year for you and your family

  • Monty

As we close out 2014, I want to thank Cam and the WhaleOil team who have done a sterling job all year ( and year after year) of bringing us the real story to all political stories. I know that there have been some tough times. I’m looking forward to 2015.

  • Steve (North Shore)

Down at Devonport for lunch today (yeah that place where $100000 was spent on a curtain) Looks like much more is being spent on a new Library, so the $100000 is just peanuts.
Why don’t you turn over a new leaf for 2015 Len? Just resign tomorrow and talk to WINZ about the unemployment benefit on monday

    • All_on_Red

A mere 23 million for that Library. All borrowed probably.

      • Steve (North Shore)

23M out of his Trainset funding, but no worries, just slam the RATEPAYER

  • Nechtan

One the great blues guitar gods (Jeff Beck) and good soulful singer (Rod Stewart)

  • caochladh

Happy Hogmanay to one and all, and as we say in Edinburgh, “Lang may yer lum reek”.

    • Nechtan

May a mouse nay leave your girnal with a teardrop in his ‘ee.

      • Don W

I had to Google that but as my Mums parents came to NZ from Scotland in the early 1900s it seems appropriate.

        • Nechtan

          As did my mother’s family.

  • KGB

    Happy New Year everyone :)

  • Wendy

I live in the downstairs flat of a two storied house that was converted to flats some years ago. The bane of my life for the last two years has been noise from upstairs because there is no sound proofing and they have no floor coverings upstairs.

Oh joy of joys when I see the upstairs neighbours packing up their car for six weeks overseas…only to be replaced by even noisier house sitters.

I can understand how people can lose it and go mad and take out their frustrations on their neighbours with automatic weapons.

If you never see me here again its because I have been locked up.

(NB: This comment is meant as wry humour. I do not intend to go mad with an automatic weapon or any other kind of weapon, either now or in the future. I do not condone hurting other people. Any inference of such is an error on the part of the reader not the writer).

    • Don W

I hope the New year brings better out comes for you.

    • sheppy

You have my total sympathy, our noisy neighbours have moved on and the new ones are lovely. It makes a massive difference

    • Yeahright

I had similar a few years back, we had our power boxes outside so after a reasonable time I would just go and switch off their power for five minutes, a couple of times at this and they disappeared into town.

      • Wendy

Its the sound of their farting in the bath reverberating through the floor joists that does my head in.

  • Steve (North Shore)

I like this place. I wonder if I can get Pete to give me another 12 month permit.
I am trying to behave Pete.

    • Nige.

i think you deserve a bloody medal mate! since moderation you haven’t put a foot wrong! (i think)

  • Nige.

Almost all of my friends cars are green. How embarrassing.

    • Don W

      You need better friends.;)

    • sheppy

Did you ever see the Top Gear / Jeremy Clarkson “sensible” review of a green coloured Ford Fiesta some time back? It included such lines as “is it green” and “how will It cope in a beach landing with the Royal Marines”

    • Sally

You need to invest in a very large bottle of blue dye.

    • Nechtan

So wouldn’t like the cars in this then???

      • Don W

With the price of fuel coming down it seems that there is still plenty of fossil fuels available. Electric cars .! yeah right.

    • Isherman

A very few selected cars are acceptable in green, like a DB5 in English Racing Green.

  • Wendy

Well its a quiet night in and early to bed for me…work in the morning.

I hope everyone has a happy and safe new year and that 2015 brings you everything you want it to bring you.

    Wendy

    • Don W

Happy new year Wendy, Be safe.

      • Wendy

        Thanks Don, you too.

  • Macca

    Happy New Year all!

Thank you everyone for your great comments and I look forward to 2015 for even better ones. Roll on FREED and the outing of the dastardly hacker!

  • TonyM

Hi Hard1, thanks for your post of the Newsweek article yesterday. It caused some research, it seems that is definitely not a very balanced piece, not much of surprise though. Anyway if your interested this guy James White is a pretty interesting listen although much of it is rather scholarly for me (sometimes you can make faith to complicated)

    http://www.aomin.org/aoblog/index.php/2014/12/23/newsweek-does-its-christmas-attack-upon-christianity-refutation-of-kurt-eichenwalds-article/
    http://www.aomin.org/aoblog/index.php/2014/12/30/eichenwald-and-newsweek-refuted-part-2/

Apparently there is also a twitter dialogue but I’m not expert enough to link to that

    • Hard1

Thanks Tony. I do have a problem with spin, especially when the new ball is due but the umpire says play on.
The only thing that we know for sure is that we know very little about anything.

  • Cowgirl

Happy New Year to you and yours – our turn tomorrow :)

    • Don W

Have you got something planned to see the new year in.?

      • Cowgirl

Not yet – we usually just have a relaxed one at home these days :)

        • Don W

As Jude has said , be safe.

          • Cowgirl

            Cheers Don, you too :)

    • jude

Happy New Year to you! Be safe and I hope 2015 is a great year for you and your family!

      • Cowgirl

Thanks Jude – right back at you :)

    • 1951

Hope you have a great evening Cowgirl. You are allowed to, but don’t feel homesick for too long. Will look forward to hearing how NYr is done over there. Happy New Year.

      • Cowgirl

Thanks – I shall report in about this time tomorrow :)

  • la la land

Happy New Year everyone – Mr La La is working tonight so I am sitting it out on my own… Kids in bed early and feet up with a nice glass of Martinborough red … Ahhhh

    • mommadog

Sounds good. No driving! Enjoy the red and happy new year to you and yours.

  • FredFrog

Our NYE is going just fine. Hope yours is too

    • Wendy

      I like your product placement!

  • Greg M

Good evening all. A big thank you to all the crew for keeping me informed and amused for another year. Best wishes for 2015.

    • Isherman

Its all been so much fun..lets do it all over again next year..

      • Nechtan

Not all of it (lets be fair)

        • Moonroof

Yeah, fair sentiment, there are aspects of 2014 that need to be rinsed and not repeated.

        • Isherman

I’ll give you that, was dwelling on the victories of sorts, as for the rest..it’ll all work out in the end I think.

          • Moonroof

No doubt. There are some interesting truths as yet concealed, that will support the victories. And 2015 will get pretty interesting when we are FREED.

      • Don W

If only we could leave the lefty, greenies out of the equation.

        • Moonroof

Then we’d have nobody to laugh at.

          • Don W

The lefty , Greenie agenda isn’t friendly to our way of life, we need to be eternally vigilant as they will, if they get their own way, deprive us of our liberties.

        • Greg M

Then we would have nobody to put the boot into :-)

          • Don W

Can you imagine what NZ would be like if the Green movement was out in force in 1840.?

          • Greg M

I reckon NZ would still be in 1840 Don.

          • Don W

Like the jungle’s of inner New Guinea.

          • Moonroof

Ahmm, revisionist Treaty? Don’t we get those every time the Waitangi Tribunal is in session. “we know what was written, but it means something different this week”

          • Don W

The Waitangi Tribunal is another tax funded trough for those that want to freeload.

          • Cadwallader

It would have involved a cooking pot lots of noise and dancing! Having said that; what’s the difference?

    • Watcher

My regards to you Greg for your blurbs throughout the year.
I will absolutely catch up with you this new year.
I might even bring me old mate Lofty ;-)
I wish you and yours nothing but the best that life can bring in 15

  • 1951

Gawd, I got busy with bees so late doing the food-run. Supermarket full of short/jandle clad strangers who don’t know how to move above snail pace. Pulled up beside an 8 seater something with the entire roof rack laden in canvas/plastic toys/floaty things & 3 mountain bikes on behind. I was just overcome with jealousy!! I have settled down now, have a glass in hand, so before I head next door I too would like to wish all you wonderful people a “Happy New Year”. You are all such good company. Take care & see you all next year if I make it back through the jungle.
    Jude 51

    • Don W

      Happy new year 1951.

      • 1951

Thanks Don, hope you do too.

    • Michelle

How are your bees going this year, mine were slow starting with the cold winds Happy New Year

      • 1951

I am really pleased with the health side of things. I have only needed to treat less than half for varoa but watching others closely. They are bringing in the nectar right now but see very little pollen coming in. What end of the country are you Michelle?

        • Michelle

          Dargaville area, where are you?

l only have 5 hives and touch wood no varroa but been cold where we are so they have been slow firing up and only swarmed in the last couple of weeks they usually start in September/October

          • 1951

Haha, close to Maungatapere. Yes just checked dates, we had 2 swarms towards end of Oct. Amazing how quickly the numbers build up, already filling out 2 supers. Well done with the varroa. You must have a secret method….?

  • Sally

My wish for WO next year.
    1. Full exposure of those involved in the hacking of Cam’s emails and some are before the courts.
    2. A successful launch of FREED and by this time in 12 months it is going full on.
    3. A certain businessman who has been trying to put Cam through the wringer has his comeuppance.
    4. And finally a certain German catches a plane to the US.

    • Moonroof

      5. All of the above, I hope all of it comes to be, and all here are well, and safe, and here to see in a successful year at end of ’15 , WOBH, and all of us.

  • Aucky

Heartiest thanks Cameron, SB, Pete, the crew and all the ‘regulars’ for a great year. I would like to think that WOBH has been one of the guardians of our democracy this year and been a catalyst for thousands of Kiwis to wake up and realise that our freedoms are being quietly eroded away by parties that do not have our interests at heart.

I sincerely hope that 2015 will see the successful birth of FREED.

Happy New Year one and all and may you have a top 2015.

  • Isherman

Well team, I hope you all enjoy the rest of the evening, and my best wishes for the new year. Thanks to the WO team for a great blog, and all the contributors and ground crew for sharing your thoughts, knowledge and humour, I’ve really enjoyed your company over an eventful year.

  • Hard1

May the coming year be the best for all of you, the most coherent bunch ever seen in one place at one time in this tortured paradise of ours. Gracios Amigos!

For Martyn, there is still hope, please enjoy…

    • Moonroof

Great track, Sr Cohen works lyrics well. Poetry.

  • yossarian

I decided when what I thought was an ok comment of mine was deleted recently that I wouldn’t come back again. And I still may not, but while pondering on that I would like to commend the people running the blog for cleaning up an act that was open to a lot of criticism not so long ago, turning it into a major and award winning news source, and taking on the MSM for doing the job more professionally than they do. Also, kudos to the regular commenters here who always make the discussion interesting and in some cases challenging. A happy 2015 to you all.

    • Moonroof

Good on you for still being about. I’m repeatedley challenged by much better posts than I could think of at the time. If I vote up, well, it’s because I agree, and I can’t think of a reply that ups the debate. However all of us got to WOBH, I’m glad you all did.

    • jcpry

It is a pleasure to read most of the comments on Whale Oil. There are some types of comments that need culling such as the sweeping statements that “all #####’s are ####” but overall there is enough good stuff to challenge the old grey matter. Clearly there are some well connected contributors with a lot of knowledge.

  • mommadog

i signed up to get changed over weeks before the holidays and am still waiting. Told that the earliest is February as it is in such high demand in my area. An interesting comment since I don’t live in the flashest area and there are lots of housing corp houses around. Guess that’s where the money is going instead of feeding those poor hungry kids. Never mind only a few more weeks at they will get a feed once back at school. Seeing your post will make me check my charges very carefully so thanks for the warning

  • Hakaru

Happy New Year Oilers. May 2015 bring all of you a prosperous and satisfying life. I would like to thank Cam and SB and the mods for giving us the best outlet for our own ideas and for the discussions that ensue. I for one believe that Whale Oil will become the most read and discussed site in New Zealand and NZ will be the better for it.
    Thanks

  • jcpry

Happy New Year to you all. I trust all your steps in the new year are in the right direction and that your road is smooth and has an increased speed limit.

  • Steve (North Shore)

I was amused by this email joke that was sent months ago:

    Sad News

With all the sadness and trauma going on in the world
    at this

moment, it is worth reflecting on the death of a very important

person, which almost went unnoticed last week.

Larry LaPrise, the man that wrote “The Hokey Pokey” died

peacefully at the age of 93. The most traumatic part
    for his family

was getting him into the coffin. They put his left leg in. And then

    the trouble started.

    Shut
    up. You know it’s funny.

  • sarahmw

Happy New Year to all WOilers. 2015 and Freed. This blog can humble, exhilirate, annoy but it makes you think. And. It is where I now come for quality news. On and upward. Blessings to the WO team that mms a me it happen.

  • Tom McKechnie

To Team WOBH and commentators. May 2015 bring you all good health & good luck.

  • ShoreRight

Happy New Year everyone – reading WOBH and starting to comment this year has been life changing – especially as I work in a left dominated sector. Cam and your team thank you so much for all you do and may it all work out in the coming months. To all the regulars – you provide me with many laughs and points to ponder – keep up the good work in 2015.
A quiet night in as Mr ShoreRight is working – bit disappointed with the telly line- up I have to say – yay for MySky, free time , music and a wee tipple

  • dumbshit

best wishes to all, even the devout lefties,
“maybe 2015” will elaborate on that in due course!

  • Steve (North Shore)

    Can I gloat?
A few days ago there was a weather forecast prediction post about rain on NYE in Auckland.
So far I have been correct, but with 90 min to go there has been no rain on the Shore.
    I win

  • Rem

Salami Warning – wood fired pizza. Portobello Hotel, New Years Day from 2pm. Fundraising for Portobello school swimming pool.

    • I.M Bach

That looks like an awesome wee trailer, well done. Do you do scratch and sniff posts of your pizzas?

  • Steve (North Shore)

OK out of here, Happy 2015 to all, including the owner and the hosts.
Look after your head in the morning (drink water)

  • Tom McKechnie

Just under 40 mins till Hogmanay,
All the best Whale Oilers for all your hard work to bring balanced news reporting & content, to WOBH.
And thank you so much for keeping it classy even when the wreckers & haters were at their worst.
A better year is ahead for sure.

  • Excitedly awaiting Whodunnit

Xmas pressie for the house was a new AV receiver and some speakers.

Denon AV AVRx-1100w and some Wharfdale 100 series boxes.

Was nice to remove the 25 year old stereo we have used since before we got married and de-clutter the tv cabinet. Of course there were no speaker cables (you make them yourself) so I bought 30M of the stuff (have to grab some banana plugs tomorrow to tidy it up a touch) and the sub needs its own special cable (shielded rca I think) which I have to find tomorrow. Got great prices (paid $2200 for $4300 of gear), love having mates in the right businesses.

But on the plus side I can stream wireless internet radio, bluetooth music from my phone/tablet, AM and FM tuner, 2 zones (one for outdoors when I can afford it – LOL).

I’m like a kid with a new toy (apart from the slight overheat while trying to untangle cables behind the tv cabinet – how the hell do they get tangled back there) and have annoyed the wife with inane chat about features to which she just asked if she can get Coast AM radio station (yes she can and its now setup)

Must say I like this new gizmo and its nice to have entered the new millenium of sound finally.

Cant wait to get the sub hooked up and really smash out some pink floyd – saving that for tomorrow.

  • Watcher

Well we are about 5 minutes away from my expectation of WO crashing its way into the households of NZ in 2015.
    I watch with bated breath.
Unlike commenters on other travel blogs, I trust Cam not to over promise and undeliver.
Happy and PROSPEROUS New Year to my WO family.

  • Michelle

Happy New Year everyone and look forward to great things from here next year and being FREED
