Note how angelic Hager is portrayed in Politician of the Year. Sad the cartoonist is so short sighted he fails to see a subversive act right in front of his nose.

    • Scotty

I didn’t see Hager as angelic in that cartoon, I saw him as pathetic

      • 1951

Hehe, it’s all about degree. Remember the ‘half-sucked throatie’ ? This cartoonist has him looking less pathetic than he actually looks in real life.

  • Michelle

the cartoonists are as one eyed as the MSM l am over the local rag (Advocate) with it’s hater of all things Key bordering on manic

Mind you it is nice to see you getting under their skin and causing irritation

  • Wallace Westland

The Darth Vader one cracked me right up. That’s gotta be my pick.

I noticed no lefty bloggers got satirised as much this year as Whale oil did? guess that shows how consequential they are (not!) bring on the big revealist 2015.

Few people would have heard of their names or blogs. I’m confident 90% of everyone who *has* heard of them only gained this knowledge through mentions on WO!

I thought it was just me being over-imaginative, but Tom Scott’s depictions of John Key do bear a strong resemblance to the Jewish caricatures from the Nazi-controlled press in Germany in the 1930s. I’ve never thought he was particularly funny or witty – when I first arrived in NZ in 1986, Tom Scott was held up as a paragon of incisive cartoonists but I’ve never ‘got’ his style at all.

i have been quite appalled by the hatred portrayed in many of the “cartoons” over the III Part series.

And as for that “tremain” – there is not a single depiction of Cam without the swarm of flies circling his head.

      • 1951

Hopefully tremain will go down with the sinking ship. He is not a nice person.

It is a well known fact that the training institutions of journalists, political commentators and satirists is so left leaning that those that educate in these halls of depravity must have trouble standing. It is therefore not surprising that the left leaning editors of mainstream press just can’t get enough of them. I have been keeping a bit of a tally of those featuring in the ChCh press and it averages 4-1 on right wing hate cartoons. The reassuring thing is that subscribers are voting with their wallets. When I am awake and hear the delivery van in my cul-de-sac I now hear only 2 drops. Mine and someone up the street. A massive change from 2 years ago. Mine will cease in the new year.

Dont worry all of you…..i am sure a talented cartoonist is on the cards for FREED…with all of the intellect wit amd humour generated by the WO community they will have ammo to sketch to their hearts content and line up yet another annual award for Cam

Sorry, can’t match your loyalty, 34 years, but it is a bit sad that it has all come to this. Used to value the reporting, now have a quick look at breakfast and then it is used for wrapping the dog turds before putting in the wheelie bin.
