The duplicity of the media, naming people who asked not to be named

Don’t you just love the Fairfax crowd…they even crow about their naming of people who asked not to be named…because they are afraid of the person they are informing on, who incidentally is a convicted killer who threatened them with the same.

Nice one Fairfax and Kelly Dennett, no wonder your audience numbers are dropping when you do scummy things like that to people.

They are victims of crime, violent crime and they asked not to be named.

But you went ahead and did it anyway, and even told us they asked not to be named.

Another example of how journalists don’t care-its all about the story absolute mongrel swine that they are. Surely this is a breach of journalistic ethics?

    • Chiefsfan73

Funniest thing I have read today, surely you jest.

An oxymoron if ever there was one!

the ol ‘end justifies the means……

I read that as though the wife didn’t want to be named, she might have a different name from the husband.

    • Hard1

      Not hard to find, though.

      • MaryLou

Well, clearly the guy doing the threatening won’t even need to look. Seriously – I can’t see how as the public we needed to know either name. If anything happens to either of them, I wonder if the journalist will even blush!

  • steve and monique

I do not have the words to describe how I feel regards the lack of brains and ethics this report shows.. Fairfax, you need to sort out your so called journos, because this sort of trash is reprehensible.

  • Some journalists only protect their sources when it suits themselves, not as a matter of principle. Scum.

    • There is a difference between a source and someone named in court.

  • MaryLou

Can’t help noticing the other bit as well – four years for killing someone. Wow.

Unless he was born in New Zealand, then the moment he was let out of prision he should have been deported, no questions asked. We do not need nor do we want people of the caliber of Mr Wang living in New Zealand.

What does one expect from a news organisation that thinks Tekapo is in Southland and asks for people to send them pictures of car crashes. They don’t care about accuracy or the rights of victims. In fact they are happy to revictimise people who have already had the misfortune of having their lives tipped upside down by criminals.

This Wang got bail after stabbing two people ? Did he bribe the Judge ? Of course, it wasn’t murder. Hardly ever is when you kill someone. They just die from bleeding or something.

Sentence announced in Cheng Qi Wang fraud case 12/8/2013
The Serious Fraud Office (SFO) has announced that Cheng Qi (Chris) Wang (54) has been sentenced to two years and nine months’ imprisonment for dishonestly using a document and money laundering.

15/2/2012 “One of two men stabbed to death at an Auckland mansion while serving a trespass notice was owed more than $125,000 by the man accused of murdering him, a court has heard.

After confronting a pyjama-clad Cheng Qi Wang on January 14 last year, Zhua “Michael” Wu, 44, and Yishan “Tom” Zhong, 53, staggered to escape the $2 million Mt Albert property with mortal knife wounds.”

“The filth couldn’t get Cheng Qi (Chris) Wang but the SFO could. Chinese hardman and serial assassin Wang was convicted of multiple multi million dollar fraud and money laundering charges laid by the SFO in 2010.
His convictions in August 2013 follow on from a particularly litigious year for the Chinese underworld figure. The charges laid by Adam Feeley ( then head of the SFO). Cheng alias (Chris Wang) was sent up the river to the big house for 2 years 9 months on the fraud charges on top of his sentence in the manslaughter slaying of Wu and Zhong.”

As a preamble…. “Mr Jones, who had almost 20 years experience with both the London Metropolitan and New Zealand police, told the two men to stop as he did not want to inflame the situation – though it appeared he was too late.
“I saw Wang put his right arm behind his back, and his hand went down as if it was going down into the belt at the back of his trousers. His right arm, shoulder, just moved a fraction at which point Michael shouted ‘knife’ or ‘he’s got a knife’ or similar,” Mr Jones told the court.
He said he told the pair to get off the property straight away.
“I left the property… My adrenalin was pretty high at the time so it was all quite excitable.”

And yet the same media idiots will not under any umbrella disclose a pedo’s name which has been suppressed, not brave enough I guess. A victim is easy pickings as they are already a victim. Nice one Fairfax and it shows exactly why your written word is not worth the paper its written on.

  • Fair call on Fairfax, but if you were really concerned, why not redact the names yourself? It would have told the same story without extending the error. Some would call it scummy.

incase the killer reads whaleoil? horse has bolted i think.

        Setting the standard?
        Leading from the front?
        Not sinking …

      • Nige, I’m guessing that’s a bit of light-hearted humour. My point was that although Cam objects to Fairfax publishing a name to their thousands of readers, he then goes and publishes the same name to his own thousands of readers – thus increasing the potential damage to the couple.
It’s Cam’s business if he doesn’t like Fairfax but on this occasion he got it wrong.
