Face of the day

Today’s face of the day chooses a religion the way some women choose a car. He is influenced by how it looks and how it makes him feel but he fails to look under the bonnet.

He may have been named after the local priest in his Irish hometown but Liam Neeson could be leaving his Roman Catholic beliefs behind.

The 59-year-old actor is said to be considering converting to Islam following a working trip to Istanbul.

According to The Sun, Neeson admitted that Islamic prayer ‘got into his spirit’ while he was filming in Turkey.

A different faith: Liam Neeson, pictured here on the Late Night With Jimmy Fallon Show this month, is reportedly considering converting to Islam
The call to prayer happens five times a day, and for the first week, it drives you crazy, and then it just gets into your spirit, and it’s the most beautiful, beautiful thing,’ he said.

There are 4,000 mosques in the city. Some are just stunning, and it really makes me think about becoming a Muslim.’

Well I am glad that he really looked into it then. You can tell so much about an ideology by the architecture of their buildings and the way that they pray five times a day ( cough ) If he can be seduced by nice architecture and people on mats 5 times a day constantly bending and stretching perhaps he should consider this instead?

I mean seriously, which one would you choose?

I can see it now in few years time Liam will talk on the phone and say:

“I don’t know who you are, I don’t even know who I am. I don’t know what you want. If you are looking for turban, I can tell you I don’t have one yet. But what I do have are a very particular set of skills, skills I have acquired over a very long acting career. Skills that make me a prime Islam convert for people like you. If you let me keep my millions gained from acting, that’ll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don’t, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will decapitate you”.

  • 1951

Which one would I choose…? Neither, when a person is so devout as these, they would have little time or energy to be of much use to me.

  • Chris EM

This sort of reasoning is pretty much what I would expect from a movie actor.

  • The Accountant

Aren’t actors the prime hunting ground for scientology?

    • steve and monique

      Just the docile ones!

  • The Accountant

Also, let’s see how he feels after the “five times a day” starts to intrude on his “me time”.

  • Cowgirl

Hmmm I’m going to try and give Liam the benefit of the doubt here because I don’t think he’s thought this one through. He’s had some issues and maybe was just vulnerable that week, or maybe he is just showing us how tolerant and hip he is or something, but either way this is no way to choose a religion. We do know he’s capable of making rash decisions, without thinking things through though – after all he has made 3 ‘Taken’ movies, and they’re absolute stinkers.

  • Richard

Roman Catholicism or Islam? it matters not, they are both doing the Devils work.

  • williamabong

He will look so good with a nice hate beard and a rag round his head, who knows they may even chuck in a couple of 10 year old wives as a bonus.

  • Murray Smith

The backside up look will soon wear off in the women’s magazines. Or maybe not, trash always remains trash.

  • steve and monique

To be fair, it is a story from the Sun which is about as credible as the Herald or Woman’s Day!

    • conwaycaptain

The Sun is MORE credible than either of the NZ Trash Mags

  • “The call to prayer happens five times a day, and for the first week, it drives you crazy”, until the brainwashing takes effect.

    • Cadwallader

I come to WO 5 times a day. I suspect it is driving me crazier!

    • pisces8284 .

Non Muslims don’t even hear it, it’s totally ignored, five times a day

  • Betty Swallocks

I’m wondering what people would have said if he had come back from Poland after filming ‘Schindler’s List’ espousing similar enthusiasm for a philosophy that espoused liquidating an entire race as its ultimate goal. Oh, wait …

  • intelligentes candida diva

Liam and that voice :-) Dear oh dear, what is he thinking? His Irish community will start throwing potatoes at him for his betrayal, oh well I guess that will assist him to learn the Islamic way of throwing stones at women for percieved betrayals, I wonder if Liam has let that concept get into his spirit.

  • Christ. And him alone.

  • BlitzkriegNZ

No different to choosing your favourite childhood fairytale, this idiot just decides to make sure everyone knows his decision.

  • Catriona

Well, I’ll be blowed. What is this man thinking? Has he gone completely mad or is this a publicity stunt?

  • Nige.

“then it just gets into your spirit, ” those words could describe any religion. He’s a bit shallow.

    • Cadwallader

To me those words describe an afternoon at the pub.

  • RightofSingapore

Liam Neeson isn’t killinganyone in this scene…

    • Catriona

      Not yet!

  • cows4me

“got into his spirit”, more likely on the spirits.

What is it with “movie Stars / Actors” that people believe them to be so “role-model-ish”?
All they ever do is pretend to be somebody else.
I fail to understand why they are held in such high regard as ethical people.

Perhaps the man should think about what Egypts President al Sisi had to say at the beginning of this year..

    http://www.meforum.org/4951/egypt-sisi-islamic-thinking-is-antagonizing

“I am referring here to the religious clerics. We have to think hard about what we are facing—and I have, in fact, addressed this topic a couple of times before. It’s inconceivable that the thinking that we hold most sacred should cause the entire umma [Islamic world] to be a source of anxiety, danger, killing and destruction for the rest of the world. Impossible!

    That thinking—I am not saying
“religion” but “thinking”—that corpus of texts and ideas that we have sacralized over the years, to the point that departing from them has become almost impossible, is antagonizing the entire world. It’s antagonizing the entire world!

Is it possible that 1.6 billion people[Muslims] should want to kill the rest of the world’s inhabitants—that is 7 billion—so that they themselves may live? Impossible!

I am saying these words here at Al Azhar, before this assembly of scholars and ulema—Allah Almighty be witness to your truth on Judgment Day concerning that which I’m talking about now.

All this that I am telling you, you cannot feel it if you remain trapped within this mindset. You need to step outside of yourselves to be able to observe it and reflect on it itfrom a more enlightened perspective.

**I say and repeat again that we are in need of a religious revolution. You, imams, are responsible before Allah. The entire world, I say it again, the entire world is waiting for your next move… because this umma is being torn, it is being destroyed, it is being lost—and it is being lost by our own hands.”**

I have been waiting for that last paragraph for a very long time.

The Muslim world needs its Reformation and someone to nail the equivalent of Martin Luther’s Theses to the doors of the Al Aqsa Mosque

  • Michael_l_c

If neeson becomes muslim and then changes his mind again, isn’t the sentence death?

  • Pita

Why do we bestow so much weight on the opinions of those who spend their lives pretending to be someone else?

  • Eiselmann

Liam Neeson .. its like choosing to be mates with Charles Manson instead of Ghandi

  • kiwihornplayer

Naturally islam will appeal to Liam. Someone gets blown up in just about every movie he has acted in.
