HarperCollins caved to Islamic bullying, issues atlas to Middle East market with Israel missing

HarperCollins are a bunch of liberal panty-waist cowards.

They have issued an atlas to the Middle East market that omits Israel entirely…as though it doesn’t even exist.

HarperCollins, one of the world’s largest publishing houses, sells English-language atlases to schools in the Middle East that omit Israel.

Collins Middle East Atlases show Jordan and Syria extending to the Mediterranean but do mark the position of the West Bank.

“The publication of this atlas will confirm Israel’s belief that there exists a hostility towards their country from parts of the Arab world. It will not help to build up a spirit of trust leading to peaceful co-existence,” said Bishop Declan Lang, the chairman of the Bishops’ Conference Department of International Affairs, to The Tablet.

“Maps can be a very powerful tool in terms of de-legitimising ‘the other’ and can lead to confusion rather than clarity. We would be keen to see relevant bodies ensure that all atlases anywhere reflect the official United Nations position on nations, boundaries and all political features,” added Dr Jane Clements, director of the Council of Christians and Jews.

However, Collins Bartholomew, the subsidiary of HarperCollins that specialises in maps, said that including Israel would have been “unacceptable” to their customers in the Gulf and the amendment incorporated “local preferences”.

The Tablet said it had discovered the customs officers in one unnamed Gulf country only permitting the import of school atlases once Israel had been deleted by hand.

Atlases are supposed to you know…be factual…aren’t they?

Not an imaginary figment of a medieval religions wishful thinking.

Have you worked out yet that we are in a war? And the liberals and left are actually collaborators with the enemy.

Then how do they use Charts on their ships which show Israel???

    • Isherman

Not to mention airspace, can you see that the Air-forces of the various neighboring states will been keen to try and fly right over the top of Tel Aviv any time soon?…

      • Disinfectant

That’s when they will find out that Israel truly exists.
Go for it “various neighbouring states”.

  • Wheninrome

Nothing like rewriting things to suit. Think Moriori history, in the past (not so far back) Trainee teachers were told that this was a “myth” and not to teach it as part of NZ history.
    Hopefully that has changed.
What a PC world we have, cleanse what we don’t like.
Ethnic cleansing, the world has not come very far.
There will be no peace on earth, Goodwill needs to be extended to all, (obviously there are exceptions) and that is the problem, the exceptions.

  • Isherman

Thats OK, they should keep in mind that in a year or two they might need to issue an updated one where Iran is missing too.

  • Wheninrome

Lets go back to flat earth. Why just Israel. Does the bigger picture show the USA in place.

  • conwaycaptain

With oil falling through $50 a barrel will they be able to afford the Atlases???
The price is now well below the break even point for Iran, Venezuela, Russia and many other states. Daily Telegraph is reporting that 150K expats working in the Gulf could be homeward bound soon.

It’s important to keep sending world atlases to Arab countries. They can be used as colouring books in their schools. For instance, you could get the kids to colour the world map according to fundamentalist islamic aspirations. They would use the same colour for the whole world map. But that’s a couple of generations away I believe. But mark my words, unless something is done, it’s going to happen.

  • GerardB

Harper Collins – off my bucket list. If they cannot produce a truthful map, what are their other products like?

    • Chiefsfan73

If Netto can be forced to do an about turn, perhaps others can too. I concur. No books published by this house in my house henceforth.

  • Isherman

I’ll keep an eye on the website of the ICA (International Cartograhpic Association) to see if they have anything to say about this and advise accordingly.

  • intelligentes candida diva

Incredible. Can it be altered, I reverberate Dr Clements views and I hope others do too

  • tinfoilhatguy

You can’t just make up the world map as you see fit. An atlas is supposed to be a factual document – not fantasy to suit Islamic end game of destroying Israel.

Very poor. They should be sued.

    • Isherman

The Israeli’s are somewhat used to this sort of thing though, you should see what some school textbooks in the Islamic world have to say about Israel, though its normally local publications, not big global brands such as HC.

      • Albert Lane

I have heard about the Palestinian children’s text-books being full of hatred against Israel. If we introduced such books for our schools denigrating Maoris (for instance), wouldn’t the UN be sending a delegation down under to investigate?

  • Whafe

I am issuing HarperCollins a prescription for all staff globally to take 3 tablets daily of full strength concrete pills….

An absurd judgement call, grow up HarperCollins

  • Wheninrome

As long as it is not like Womens Day which issues next weeks copy the week before, hate to think they were predicting a future.

  • Eiselmann

So much for the religion of inclusiveness , tolerance and peace…

    • The Accountant

      Inclusive, if you are Muslim.

      • Excitedly awaiting Whodunnit

Sometimes. Now you have to be the right type of muslim depending on who is asking.

  • Never in the dark…..

I wonder what Daniel Silva (http://www.harpercollins.com/cr-105405/daniel-silva) thinks.

  • paul468

If there is no Israel then if they drop a nuke on Iran, no-one will be harmed.

    • Wheninrome

Well obviously Israel cannot be blamed if they don’t exist and are but a figment of our imagination.
In fact Israel could be like Santa Clause and do us all favours, we could send secret Santa Wish lists, and being the big happy smiling all bounteous figment of our imagination grant all our wishes and shower presents on us all.
We could all smile when “Israel” is blamed for anything we would know that it is just a figment of the Muslim imagination, and wait for them to grow into maturity.

  • Disinfectant

So HarperCollins is only interested in Muslim money.

Seems the appropriate forum to share the following:

An ingenious example of speech and politics occurred recently in the United
Nations Assembly and made the world community smile.

    A representative from Israel began:
    · Before beginning my talk I want to tell you something about Moses.
    · When he struck the rock and it brought forth water, he thought, “What a good opportunity to have a bath!”
    · Moses removed his clothes, put them aside on the rock and entered the water.
    · When he got out and wanted to dress, his clothes had vanished.
    · A Palestinian had stolen them!

The Palestinian representative at the UN jumped up and shouted
furiously, “What are you talking about? The Palestinians weren’t there

The Israeli representative smiled and said, “And now that we have made that clear, I will begin my speech.”

  • The Accountant

This makes my blood boil. I suppose they will be issuing flat earth maps soon so the flat earth society don’t feel put out. Or maybe the World is best presented with the South at the top and the North at the bottom. Wouldn’t want those down under to feel under the pump.

    • Albert Lane

How long will it be before HarperCollins produce an atlas that shows all New Zealand place names in Maori? And that would include the name of New Zealand.

  • caochladh

It would seem Harper Collins have been at this sort of nonsense for a while. This from June 2001: “Comments on the decision of publisher HarperCollins to continue the ‘Narnia’ series of children’s books written by the late C.S. Lewis. Concern over the perceived desire of HarperCollins to eliminate Christian references from any forthcoming books in the series; Opinion that Lewis’ book sales are due in part to the fact that they are based on Christian imagery; Perception that the ‘Narnia’ stories appeal to the human inner craving for goodness; Question of how HarperCollins shareholders will react to the continuation of the series.”

I guess the japanese wrote history to suit themselves so why not the arab world?

  • Coffee Connoisseur

“Have you worked out yet that we are in a war? And the liberals and left are actually collaborators with the enemy.”

The first part yes you could conclude that we are in a war with terrorists such as Al Queda or ISIS and it is largely unwinnable because it isn’t about resources. its about idealism and whilst the west are trying to eliminate groups such as ISIS (originally armed and funded by the US is Libya) enemies of the west have the goal of weakening the economies of countries they are fighting against. This is their goal.

The second part of this statement is just plain silly. It would be in a similar arena to someone saying Whaleoil is a collaborator with ISIS because everytime you post about them you give them publicity.
