    A GREAT CIRCLE is any circle on the surface of a sphere whose plane passes through the centre of that sphere!!!! Drummed into me at Conway. However the earth is an oblate spheroid but it still works.

    Any country in the world could therefore be reached travelling along a great circle using Auckland as the point of origin and the centre of the earth. If however, we’re using the oblate spheroid model, then only countries on the 174E / 006W line of longitude would be reachable
