World leaders Take Heat for Paris Photo Op During March That Some Say Is Deceiving

The photos may have made it seem as if David Cameron, Benjamin Netanyahu and François Hollande and the other heads of state were standing at the head of the pack, but at the time they were in fact alone on an empty street, surrounded by security.

Heads of state including David CameronBenjamin Netanyahu and François Hollande have been criticised for what some believe is a misleading photo opportunity.

The world leaders were pictured supposedly at the forefront of a march of one million people on the streets of Paris, protesting the actions of Islamist militants who slaughtered 17 people in a spree lasting three days.

A photo has emerged which suggests the politicians were in a heavily guarded street which was closed to the public, prompting critics to accuse them of abusing the situation.

Politicians fought to be at the front of the picture, which many said showed them heroically “leading” the marches.

Critics suggest the government figures were misleading the public and it was all just a “photo op”.

With 50 high profile political figures marching through a city where the terror threat level is at the highest possible, you’d expect at least some protection.

The historic demonstration was dubbed the largest France has ever seen, with a reported three million in attendance at marches across the country.

Some of the political big names who took part were British Prime Minister David Cameron, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy, Malian President Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta, PLO Chairman Mahmoud Abbas and former French President Nicolas Sarkozy.

It’s not their fault that everyone else went to the wrong starting point.

The staged photo is no big deal, they were there to make a point (and score a point). You couldn’t expect them to be in the main marches, given security requirements.

  • Geoff

It may have been staged but in view of the required security arragements they probably were wise. Think of the target they would have been. Perhaps the media could have been more honest in their presentation.

Where’s the yanks???? couldn’t Obama drag himself out of bed?

    • MaryLou

They’ve already apologised for just sending their local ambassador

      • Pete

LOL…I just checked..looks like they sent Eric Holder….what a treat for the Europeans that would have been.!

    • mike

US Secret Service would of vetoed the trip… far too much risk.

      • JKV

I would have thought that the security risk for Bibi Netanyahu would have been far higher. He had no problem going to Paris and even went to the Jewish deli to pay his respects. The behaviour of the despicable socialist Hollande says everything one needs to know about the left. When Netanyahu turned up (after not being invited) Hollande invited the ‘Palestinian President’. Incredible.

Potus is a much higher target. Plus Arab countries know not to piss off Israel as they don’t play by the rules

    • Mythrandir

      Obama isn’t a hypocrite.

      • Pete

        Obama isn’t bothered..more like, or he’s a coward.?

        • JKV

Obama simply doesn’t care. He won’t even bring himself to say Islamic terrorism in the wake of the Charlie Hebdo murders. Mind you, he is calling it terrorism which I suppose is an improvement on ‘workplace violence’.

        • Thersites

Barack Hussein Obama has a Moslem father and spent much of his childhood in a Moslem country. He has not entirely shaken off suspicions that he is himself a secret Moslem.

A year or two ago he said, “The future must not belong to those who insult the Prophet of Islam.”

It is hardly likely that he would make a public gesture to support those killed for insulting “the prophet of Islam.”

    • All_on_Red

They’re probably getting to the point where they can’t afford to run Air Force One and the C5 Galaxy’s which bring all the cars and security. Either that or he was too busy meeting a Basketball team/ sarc.
Anyone, given all his supporting statements for Islam, he’d be hypocrite of the year for going – much like all those on that front row of the picture!

    • Mine it,Drill it,Sell it.

Maybe Michelle vetoed the trip, don’t you remember the photo of her scowling face when she was not the center of attention at Madella’s funeral last year.

  • Justsayn

    Je suis ailleurs?

I can understand the need for security preventing them leading the real march, but why pretend and deliberately mislead.

  • The2Game

Never trust politicians and ‘their’ crowds, ha, and certainly don’t trust them to count the numbers correctly …

Remember before the last election the ‘packed’ halls and the ‘positive feedback’ we were assured were greeting Dot.Crim the Performing Seal … or Winnie the Wonderful … or Wuss and Metty “Buy One, Get One Not Quite Free!’ … or ‘Our Latest David’?

  • Eiselmann

Looking at the positives….they all showed up… now what? ,in six months time will there be any real changes , any real inroads to sorting out not just the ‘random lone wolf attacks in the name of allah that have nothing to do with islam’ but street marches demanding people be beheaded for disagreeing with Islam, the no go areas for non muslims…or will we see, sadly, another gathering of world leaders in another city all of them standing as one in solidarity just look enough for a photo shoot.
