Qatar Muslims call on UN to make contempt of Islam illegal

The scary thing is that the UN is quite likely to help out with such a request.

A leading Islamic organization has called on the United Nations to make “contempt of religions” illegal. The group also urges followers to continue peaceful protests against images of Prophet Mohammed and says the West should do more to protect Muslims.

The International Union of Muslim Scholars, which is based in Qatar, has urged Muslim’s “not to resort to violence,” after a cartoon of the prophet appeared in the French magazine Charlie Hebdo. Its publication following the January 7-9 terror attacks in Paris, led to widespread protests across the Muslim world, some of which turned violent.

Influential preacher Yusuf al-Qaradawi wants a law to be brought in by the UN to forbid the “contempt of religions,” according to an article he wrote, which was published on the organization’s website.

That seems all well and good if Islam was a religion.  Unfortunately, it’s also an ideology.  It’s a complete manual of how to run business, a legal system, society itself, and even how to prepare food.

“The Union calls on Islamic countries to submit a global law draft criminalizing the defamation of religions and the prophets and the holy sites of all, through a global conference to discuss clauses in complete freedom,” the preacher added.

He condemned the decision by the French journal to publish the cartoon saying that it gave“credibility” to the idea that “the West is against Islam,” AFP reported.

Al-Qaradawi has called on the West to provide better protection for Muslims living in Western countries. Since the terrorist attacks in Paris, there have been over 100 threats made against Muslims living in France, which is double the number of offenses recorded for the whole of January 2014.

The Union concluded its message by urging all nations and civilizations to try and coexist peacefully, though it does admit that this harmony is being threatened because of the recent events.

I don’t think there is a great need for Western societies to draw rude pictures of Muhammed, but in the face of so many deaths, it seems like a sensible thing to do.

Islam asks us to stop drawing images, so they can stop killing people.

Do they even hear what they’re saying?

He condemned the decision by the French journal to publish the cartoon saying that it gave“credibility” to the idea that “the West is against Islam”

    The West is against Islam.

    • Curious

Or perhaps more correctly, Islam as a way of life is directly against all those freedoms and ways of life we enjoy in our Western democracies, which themselves are founded on Judeo-Christian belief system.

      • Mike Webber

Our way of life is founded on the concepts of civilisation, individualism and property rights, not religion. Religion is collectivism as is socialsm and fascism.

      • thehawkreturns

Yes Islam is NOT a religion. It is a paedophile & misogynist club.

    • OneTrack

      Islam IS against the West.

  • conwaycaptain

What about protection for other religions in Muslim countries and allowing churches and places of worship to be built and free of interference from Muslims???

    • jaundiced

Such as not killing non Muslims for not being a Muslim. Oops, that sounds like a criticism of Islam – sorry.

      • OneTrack

Yes, you aren’t allowed to say such things. Somebody might be offended.

        • thehawkreturns

          Muslims are toss artists.

          Can I say that darrrlings?

    • Curious

For him south must be north, and dark must be light. How many Jews lived in Arab countries in 1948? And how many since the formation of Israel, under the same international auspices that established emirates such as Qatar or countries such as Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq etc? The logic from this imam in Qatar is enough to make you cry, if it weren’t so derisible.

    • I.M Bach

The ‘two-way street’ ethos doesn’t apply to Islam; it’s their way or you’ll make no headway because you’ll have no head.

    • Albert Lane

You’d think the UN would be the first to send a high-powered delegation to Saudi Arabia and demand that non-Muslim religions be allowed to co-exist in peace, be treated equally to all other people, and be allowed to construct their places of worship. But there seems to be a very large silence about this. I bet if we prohibited islamic worship in NZ, we would soon have some very important visitors who would tell us to behave ourselves, or else.

  • Justsayn

The killing of people in the name of religious is an affront to decency, and in direct retaliation I call upon all western cartoonists to join is a drawhard, a fatwad, a war of vengeance, and produce an many thought provoking depictions of religious figures as their calloused little hands can manage.

Really, if they are that worried they should just pray about it and if their god exists, and cares, he (or she) will do something about it.

  • Lance Ralph

I understand that US military is legally obliged to ‘facilitate’ religious worship for their personnel. I did hear of one service person who declared as a practising Satanist and was therefore provided with a corner to set up his ‘ whatever you might call it -‘ shrine or something.
Presumably contempt of Satanism would be an exception in the eyes of the Mullahs. It would be the Mullahs who decided what were ‘religions’. Ergo other religions would also be exceptions since there is no God but Allah. Ergo is it not the case that Islam is the only true religion in their eyes.

  • conwaycaptain

Qatar is the home of some of the biggest money raisers for ISIS. Also their human rights record for cheap labour ex Pakistan, Fillipines and N Korea is abysmal

    • Kash

How did the west become Developed?
      Cheap labour

      • Bwent

Yes, but we get our cheap labour from Socialist Prison Camps, far out of sight.

Somehow that makes us better people.

Yet another attempt to instill fear into the non Muslim world.

    • Cadwallader

Absolutely; and guess what the superficial minds at the UN will likely go with it?

      • BloodyOrphan

Exactly, it’s almost as though the UN is run by Muslims now …

        • thehawkreturns

It is. Even the Pres. of the USA is a Muslim.

  • metalnwood

My boys grandad used to take pictures of them and print them out for us. He always put the name of the boy and date on the photo.

What do muslims write on their photo’s when every family has a Mohammed? Are you allowed to write the name Mohammed on the photo of someone called Mohammed. Are you allowed to take their picture at all…

Does that extend to selfies as well? Can ISIS send a selfie to the US tiltled Mohammed cuts off someones head?

    • Albert Lane

If you read the UK newspapers, hardly a day goes by when another Mohammed is sentenced to a long jail term for serious crimes. Wouldn’t it be interesting to see a list of the first names of all prisoners in UK prisons. I wouldn’t mind betting that the name and its derivations would be at the top of the list. What I can’t work out is why Mohammeds who commit serious crimes can be permitted to keep their deeply religious name. You’d think their imams and mullahs would immediately require them to change their names and stop insulting the prophet. But do they? I don’t think so. Talk about double standards.

  • Alright

“Influential preacher Yusuf al-Qaradawi wants a law to be brought in by

Yusuf, let me tell you something at no cost: neither you nor the UN will dictate what I can say or describe.

PS: to set the tone – your religion (which is like a cancer) should moderate itself and stop cutting people’s heads off rather than litigating perceived offenses by people who have concerns about your “followers” or (God forbid) have a sense of humour (which I suggest you google via Wikipedia).

  • hbboy

As long as the punishment fits the crime, let them make it illegal to rubbish someone’s beliefs. I reckon the fine should be 50 cents. Oh wait they want to cut my head off ???

  • Builder

Yeah right, treat their religion with respect like they treat others religions. Remember the Buddist temple the Islamist destroyed in 2001.

  • Annoyed

    This is a great idea.
Let’s start with all those people that protest and want to kill cartoonists over “insulting” their “religion”. Surely that is a far greater contempt of others religious beliefs than the drawings of cartoons etc without any actual threats or anything.
Also, threats are up. How about actual violence? We know where that’s coming from right? Again, treating everything done by non-muslims as great crimes against Islam while they are all in response to greater crimes committed by Islamic people.

  • Cadwallader

“A slow but steady reformer” is how the US ambassador to Saudi Arabia described the Saudi King after his death today. Let’s not forget that within his realm is to be found “Chop-Chop Square” a recreation ground for beheaders. So that steady reform hadn’t quite got to that part of town?

  • Bartman

They can have a law for whatever they like, as long as we and the western nations can have a law banning Islam as anything other than mindless babbling towards a dumpy city.

Under this law, would Jews be allowed to visit the Temple Mount (their holiest site)?

This is as far as I read and the blood started to boil …….. ‘and says the West should do more to protect Muslims’.
Why don’t the Muslims do more to protect the West?

    • thehawkreturns

Why doesn’t the West rid itself of the pox of Islam?

  • Eddie

Interesting to note that this has been tried since 1999. Persistnece (and some terrorism) might pay off.

  • Red

The UN will swallow this hook line and sinker. It’ll give them a precedent towards banning any criticism on what a politically correct, spineless and irrelevant institution the UN has become

    • Albert Lane

But remember that a huge number of countries are muslim countries. Something like 57 or so. That gives them a very substantial voting bloc in the UN.

  • sandalwood789

First thing – we should withdraw from the UN.
Second thing – this is yet more proof that Islam is an *expansionist ideology*.
This is a calculated and deliberate move to try to render us defenseless.
If such a law were applied here, Muslims could do *whatever they liked* and we could do nothing about it, since to speak up would be to “defame their cult” – sorry, “religion”.

Europe and the UK already have such a regime in place with their hate-speech laws. You can’t speak out against Islam there and expect to remain out of the courts.

    • thehawkreturns

The UN is almost as disgusting as the Islamic countries that it provides a soapbx for.

      • sandalwood789

        Yes, it is.
I rate it as equally disgusting.

  • Of course the UN will be right into it, they used their two favourite words – global conference. They will all be falling over themselves for business class tickets to a six star resort somewhere and come back with reports on how this is all the Wests fault and possibly the suggestion of a global tax

  • Kevin O’Brien

As a Christian I do have contempt for Islam. I can give no credibilty to Muhahmed as a prophet. He lived and left a legacy of enforced violence against those who did not comply with his belief system. That legacy extends to muslim killing muslim.
Christ taught us to love our neigbour as ourseleves: killing them was not an option.

    • NoEyeDeer

… and the crusaders did a great job of extending peace and harmony in the middle east. Let’s not fool ourselves, Christanity has a bloody history. If you look into most mainstream religions the good old days were not actually that good. The only thing Cristianity has going for it is that some of its adherents have modernised. Radicalist Islam is 15th century thinking all over again.

I’ve said it before, the West needs to get out of the middle east and let them simmer for a 100 years. No trade or technology swaps, let them solve their own problems and mature as most other cultures have done. This current policy of extending the olive branch by invading for ‘peace and democratic purposes’ just fuels the fire.

It has’nt worked to date and it aint going to work going forward. Like land wars in Asia…

      • sandalwood789

“…and the crusaders did a great job of extending peace and harmony in the middle east.”

The crusaders fought a defensive series of wars to try to regain land lost to the Muslim armies. At the time of the first crusade, Muslim armies had already been rampaging across the Middle East for almost 400 years.

Quote – “In A Concise History of the Crusades, by renowned medieval historian Thomas F. Madden, the record is set straight. The Crusades, he
shows, were not the brainchild of an ambitious pope, nor were they inspired by opportunistic, cold-blooded plundering knights. What they were was a much delayed response to more than four centuries of conquests in which Muslims had already captured two thirds of what was
the old Christian world. At some point, Christianity as a faith and a culture had to defend itself or be subsumed by Islam. The Crusades were that defense. The story of the Crusades is one of Western reaction to
Muslim advances — they were no more offensive than was the American invasion of Normandy.”

        • Kevin O’Brien

The Muslims invaded the Holy Land about 638AD. It was all on when they destroyed the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in 1099.

          • Albert Lane

Whenever the muslims take over territory, they turn churches into mosques. In Jerusalem they built their huge mosque on the ruins of the temple, and now they are violently protesting whenever non-muslims want to pray at the site. However, it is not their major mosque, and muslims still need to face the east towards Mecca to pray when they take their prayers outside the mosque. And when they do that, their backsides point towards this treasured and important mosque. There is a photo on the net showing this. Quite amusing.

        • Albert Lane

The islamic invasion had even reached France and Spain, and it took the Crusades to kick them out. Mind you, the islamic invasion has now started again, and by the looks of things, it’s going to get a lot further than Spain and France.

      • Kevin O’Brien

The thinking goes back to the words and sayings of Mahomet. His sucession left family lines classed as unbelievers and the strife still continues. In effect, only some we call muslims are accepted by other muslims as true followers; the rest are apostates and are to be put to death. There is a dispensation for some non-muslims to be allowed to live as deferential lower class taxpaying near slaves.
Cultural tolerance may go too far.

    • Bwent

Your religion has expelled Jews from xtian countries 109 times in the last 1000 years, and caused countless number of pogroms.

Islam the religion needs to be attacked as well as Islamists. It’s time the West stopped pussy-footing around and called out Islam for what it is. We need another Ronald Reagan.

    • thehawkreturns

      • Luis Cannon

      • Kevin

I have no problems with Muslims as everyone is entitled to believe whatever they want (by attacking Islam itself then hopefully we lessen the chances of people believing in it to the point where it almost becomes a dead religion). I have no idea why they believe in such nonsense as the Koran – maybe they were indoctrinated in it from birth, or maybe they converted as a means of rebelling against the West, the “evil American empire” etc. It’s Islamists (militant Muslims who engage in terrorism) that I have a problem with.

        • Bwent

Sure, just like how were are going to destroy Authoritarian, Orthodox Xtian Russia by attacking them.

I can think of no organisation, political party, system, group or religion that is more contemptuous of (other) religions than Islam. Indeed only a few atheists and the totally disinterested would be immune from such a law.

    • thehawkreturns

how would atheists be immune from showing contempt for Islamics?

      • friardo

A few atheists are people who are never contemptuous, at all. There may be some Christians like that but i’ve not come across them. I once met a Bahai lady who would probably fit the bill but even now I’m not sure that Bahai is necessarily a religion to some adherents.

    • Isherman

You touch on a good point there. Where do you draw the line with such things because in truth, some of these types of things are as much cultural practices as they are religious, FGM being a great example. So what next, cant defame a ‘cultural’ practice regardless of how barbaric it may be?

  • Adios Africa

Islam was not a torch, as has been claimed, but an extinguisher. Conceived in a barbarous brain for the use of a barbarous people, it was and it remains incapable of adapting itself to civilization. Wherever it has dominated, it has broken the impulse towards progress and checked the evolution of society – Andre Servier

    • Goldie

Well, apart from the Golden Age of Islam (during the west’s dark ages), which brought us the numeric system we use, algebra, calculus, advances in geometry, advances in architecture, navigation… The people that built the library of Bagdad or the Taj Mahal or the great mosque of Cordoba were not barbarians.

The problem is that modern Islam has turned its back on its rich intellectual heritage and embraced nihilism.

      • Adios Africa

Mathematical principles of algebra, calculus, trigonometry, geometry dates back to the BCE – think of the pyramids. There is also very little substance to the myth of the ‘Golden Age of Islam’. Fundamentalist Islam was as vile and barbarous then as it is today.

        • sandalwood789

          That’s right.
As for the number system, “Arabic numerals” is very much a misnomer –

Quote – “The numeral system came to be known to both the Persian mathematician Al-Khwarizmi, whose book On the Calculation with Hindu Numerals written about 825 in Arabic, and the Arab mathematician Al-Kindi, who wrote four volumes, “On the Use of the *Indian* Numerals” (Ketab fi Isti’mal al-‘Adad al-Hindi) about 830. Their work was principally responsible for the diffusion of the *Indian* system of numeration in the Middle East and the West.”

          • Kash

Only White people think of them as Indian numerals as, the Brits did not really rule the Arabs and they could not stand the thought that a country they are ruling invented their System- so they continued to teach it was from the Arabs.

Under Islamic rule, Jews were treated as religious untermenschen – dhimmi
            Quote: Although
Jewish life improved under Islamic rule, an interfaith utopia did not exist.[9]:58 Jewish people still experienced
persecution. Under Islamic Rule, the Pact of Umar was introduced, which protected the
Jews but also established them as inferior.[9]:59 Since the 11th century, there have been
instances of pogroms against Jews.[12] Examples include the 1066 Granada massacre, the razing of the entire
Jewish quarter in the Andalucian city of Granada.[13] In North Africa,
there were cases of violence against Jews in the Middle Ages,[14] and in other Arab lands including Egypt,[15] Syria.[16] and Yemen[17] Jewish population was confined to
segregated quarters, or mellahs, in Morocco beginning from the 15th century. In
cities, a mellah was surrounded by a wall with a fortified
gateway. In contrast, rural mellahs were separate villages inhabited
solely by the Jews.[18] The Almohads,
who had taken control of much of Islamic Iberia by 1172, were far more
fundamentalist in outlook than the Almoravides,
and they treated the dhimmis harshly. Jews and Christians were
expelled from Morocco and Islamic Spain.[19] Faced with the choice of either death or
conversion, some Jews, such as the family of Maimonides,
fled south and east to the more tolerant Muslim lands, while others went
northward to settle in the growing Christian kingdoms.[20][21] In 1465, Arab mobs in Fez slaughtered thousands of Jews, leaving
only 11 alive, after a Jewish deputy vizier treated a Muslim woman in an
offensive manner. The killings touched off a wave of similar massacres
            throughout Morocco.[22][23]

Xtians were far, far crueler. In fact, Saladin rescued Jews from the rampaging Crusaders.

Adolf Hitler, the most recent Pogrom Inciter being a case in point.

It is the Core of the Xtian religion – anti Semitism.

Love the Fuhrer with all your heart and soul, and your neighbour as yourself.

Strange how Jews are traditionally not considered neighbours, until 6 million were killed.

This will be a brief respite from Western Anti Semitism only.

          • Adios Africa

Quote from Adolph Hitler on his views on Christianity and Islam:

‘You see, it’s been our misfortune to have the wrong religion. Why didn’t we have the religion of the Japanese, who regard sacrifice for the Fatherland as the highest good? The Mohammedan religion [Islam] too would have been more compatible to us than Christianity. Why did it have to be Christianity with its meekness and flabbiness?’

BTW, Israel is the sole functioning democracy in the Middle East.and anti-semitism is not the core of the Christianity religion, but these fact mays will bounce off.

          • Bwent

Nowhere in the Torah will you find a “Democracy”.

This fact will certainly “bounce off”.

As will the call of the Torah for the stoning of Sodomites (Leviticus 20:13), adulterers (Leviticus 20:10), blasphemers (Leviticus 24:16), murderers (Exodus 21:12) and apostates (Deuteronomy 13:6-18).

These facts will certainly bounce off. “Buh, buh, buh… Democracy!”

            Democracy is pathetic.

          • Bwent

Also, anti Semitism IS the core of the Xtian religion. In your ridiculous eschatology, 2/3 of Jews will die, and 1/3 will convert.

While our young men lark about playing computer games and taking welfare, our young women work in offices and serve in the armed forces. Perhaps they are tired of it. They are tired of equality, they want to be protected, they want men to work for them again.

They want to be looked after by polite, kind and respectful men, and if Western men won’t do it, in desperation, they may well turn to Islam.

This reminds me of racist white men who whine when white women prefer masculine (in the traditional sense) men of other races.
