Today’s Trivia

Welcome to Daily Trivia. There is a game to play here. The photo above relates to one of the items below. The first reader to correctly tell us in the comments what item the photo belongs to, and why, gets bragging rights. Sometimes they are obvious, other times the obvious answer is the decoy. Can you figure it out tonight?

Someone held an experiment called The Three Christs of Ypsilanti. Three schizophrenics claiming to be Jesus were brought together have their reactions documented. In the end, each came to the conclusion that the other two must have mental issues. (source)

While on the topic of religion: there’s a religion based on the movie “The Big Lebowski” called “Dudeism”. “Dudeism” advocates and encourages the practice of “going with the flow”, “being cool headed”, and “taking it easy”. (source)

Blue whales sometimes break from a song and then pick it up in the exact same spot six months later. Scientists have no idea how or why this is done. (source)

What does space smell like?  Nothing?  Wrong. Space smells like “seared steak” or “hot metal” to astronauts returning from spacewalks. (source)

Leonardo da Vinci used “mirror writing” (from right side of page to left) for his personal and private notes. This helped prevent others from stealing his ideas, protected his scientific theories from scrutinization by the Roman Catholic Church, and as a left-hander, also eliminated smudging. (source)

    John Frum cargo cult.

    Link to 2.
Cargo cult based on “The Dude”

    • You’re the first to link it to the right item, so you take out the non-existent prize :)

  • wanarunna

strange religions – item 2 – link to the Melanesian cargo cults

  • david W

I would have said the link was to #1, that the John Frum cargo cult uses the cross as one of its symbols, which obviously is associated with Jesus.

    Don’t forget “The Dude Abides”

  • Nechtan

Some cargo cults think the Duke of Edinburgh is a god. One of his more famous gaffes is: “Well, you’ll never fly in it, you’re too fat to be an astronaut.” Link to item 4?

    (yes its a stretch)

  • Vlad

I’m with the John Frum answer, but I do believe the sweetest item of untold trivia is the Duke of Edinburgh cult from Vanuata; a tribe that thinks the Queen’s Dook is a God.

And the best part about it is that Philip has quietly met them and treated them with kind respect without publicity.

I’d give him a knighthood too. What a great guy.
