Time to rinse the Terrible Ten

There are at least ten councillors in Auckland who will need a strong third party campaign against them at the next election.

Auckland councillors have voted 10-9 to approve Mayor Len Brown’s new 10-year budget.

Those to vote for the budget were Mayor Len Brown, Arthur Anae, Bill Cashmore, Linda Cooper, Chris Darby, Alf Filipaina, Mike Lee, Calum Penrose, Wayne Walker, Penny Webster.

Councillors to vote against the budget were Cameron Brewer, Cathy Casey, Ross Clow, Chris Fletcher, Denise Krum, Dick Quax, Sharon Stewart, John Watson and George Wood.

Those ten councillors, plus many in the opposing list have enabled Len Brown’s wasteful spending and budgets over two council terms.

This vote won’t save them as we head into next year’s local body elections.

Aucklanders have been fleeced and all we have seen is a reduction in services.

You can do your bit, firstly by joining the Auckland Ratepayers’ Alliance.

The Auckland Ratepayers’ Alliance is disappointed that Aucklanders will be facing an average 9.9% rates increase after passing the Mayor’s proposed budget nine votes to ten. Ratepayers’ Alliance spokesperson, Jo Holmes says:

“This locks in rate increases ninety-nine times the current rate of inflation. With some suburbs facing rate increases of nearly 20% in a single year. What confidence can Aucklanders have in Len Brown when he promises a 2.5% rates cap and delivers a 9.9% rates hike?”

“The Ratepayers’ Alliance will be making it its mission to ensure that not a single councillor that voted for today’s rates hike will be re-elected next year.”

Aucklanders can join the campaign to hold the Council to account at www.ratepayers.nz/join

We can remain silent no longer, so join the already more than 6500 members and start pushing back.

The next thing to do would be to form a cohesive ticket and platform across all of Auckland to challenge these ratbags and tip them out.

A ‘Fresh Start’ might be a good slogan.

Time is up on these ratbags. Time to show them they work for us not themselves.
