Is that it? An ‘independent’ candidate announces

Phil Goff has finally announced what everybody has known about for at least a year, including him…that he is going to stand for Mayor of Auckland Council.

He has spent a lifetime in the trough, 30 years as an MP, and his big retirement plan is to be Mayor of Auckland?

That said, Goff has spent a year at least planning this and so his ‘speech’ was a little underwhelming as is his website.

Somehow he thinks a tinge of blue and we will all forget that he has spent 30 years as a Labour MP and 3 years as the temporary leader of the Labour Party. We are all of a sudden going to forget all that and because he says so he is an ‘independent’.

His Website has links to Facebook and Twitter.

It is the Facebook link that shows he has no intention of being independent…it links to the url “http://www.facebook.com/philgoff.labour”.

So I guess any pretence of being neutral and independent is about as reliable as his telling us he never dyed his hair when he bloody well did.

Phil Goff starts his campaign like he has lived his life as an MP…with lies.

He is no more independent than Maurice Williamson or Judith Collins would be if they stood for Mayor, though I am sure neither of them would play around with this pretence. The Media Party wouldn’t let them get away with it so why do they let Phil Goff get away with it?

A bloke who chucked paint and spat at returning veterans, and dyed his hair and denied it, is hardly the sort of person we want running our city.

I mean he scored the second lowest result for the Labour Party when he lead them at the 2011 election, only David Cunliffe has done worse. But supposedly that now qualifies him to be Mayor?

The country didn’t want him as PM so why would Aucklanders want him as Mayor?

Out of 1.8 million Aucklanders a tired old Labour Party hack is the best there is?

We need honesty and transparency not a lying, old, tired politician looking for a new trough because he has realised that a Little led Labour has doomed him to another 3 years in opposition.
