Mr X revealed as Colin Craig himself

Mr X

Colin Craig has been outed as the infamous Mr X  in his booklet he mailed to every New Zealand household.

Marika Hill at Fairfax explains:

Former Conservative Party leader Colin Craig has been outed as a foul-mouthed “Mr X” who posed as a party whistleblower.

The anonymous “whistleblower” features in a booklet distributed to mailboxes in July, in which Craig claims he was the victim of a political conspiracy.

Craig has now admitted he was Mr X, who was quoted in the booklet as describing Craig as “freakish under pressure” and said he had a chance of a comeback.

“A lot of expletives have been deleted from this dialogue,” the interview begins.

Craig said he didn’t see any problems with talking about himself in the third person and framing it as an anonymous whistleblower.

It was a common literary tool to get a message out to readers, he said.

“It makes for a more interesting read … I stand by the brochure.”

It isn’t a literary tool, it is lying. This is a political leader making stuff up as he stood before the media and called out three people, me included for alleged defamation.

The only defamation that has occurred is Colin Craig making up a whole interview. It has all the hallmarks of his infamous “Two of Me” poem.

This guy is seriously deluded. If he made up whole swathes of his booklet in a fantasy interview what else has he made up?

His credibility is shot all to hell.

Craig stepped down as party leader in June after it was alleged he sexually harassed his former press secretary Rachel MacGregor.

The former leader has denied the allegations, but admitted there had been “inappropriate behaviour”.

Craig has also accused Whaleoil blogger Cameron Slater of being part of a “dirty politics brigade” running a campaign to destroy his reputation.

A legal stoush between the pair was currently before the courts.

Craig was suing Slater for defamation. In a counter-claim, Craig faces defamation proceedings over the pamphlet which names Slater.

Not only that I’ve sued him for breach of my intellectual property, after he illegally used my photos. It is now perfectly clear here that the only person playing dirty politics was Colin Craig, in a desperate attempt to stop the truth being told about him.

When asked about the Mr X interview, Slater said Craig was playing his own dirty politics.

“It raises serious questions about his credibility. This is a man who professes to be an honest politician who will hold people to account.”

Slater disputed Craig’s claim it was a common practice to use fake interviews in publications.

If a journalist invented an interview they’d be rightly sacked. Colin Craig claimed in his made up interview that Mr X is “someone who knows those involved”. That is in the very first paragraph, a lie from the get go.

Have a look at the brochure, and now that you know Mr X is Colin Craig wonder at the ridiculousness of it all.

I think I will amend my statement of claim now as there is clear malice involved.

Colin Craig is a political retard and he needs to quit politics before his remaining credibility is shredded in an open court.

As much at home writing editorials as being the subject of them, Cam has won awards, including the Canon Media Award for his work on the Len Brown/Bevan Chuang story. When he’s not creating the news, he tends to be in it, with protagonists using the courts, media and social media to deliver financial as well as death threats.

They say that news is something that someone, somewhere, wants kept quiet. Cam Slater doesn’t do quiet and, as a result, he is a polarising, controversial but highly effective journalist who takes no prisoners.
