Palestinian Red Crescent Society

Last week amongst the daily terrorist attacks on Israeli civilians, two Israelis were murdered by an Islamic terrorist while driving through the West Bank. When the surviving, and injured, family members called an ambulance for help, a Palestinian Red Crescent ambulance stopped but when they realised that the injured citizens were Jews, they continued driving. Yes you read that correctly. They chose to not give aid because of the race/religion/nationality of the patients. This is a blatant violation of medical ethics.
In striking contrast Israel’s emergency services have a proven record and strong commitment to saving all lives, including  the lives of terrorists.

Following reports that a Red Crescent ambulance passed by the site of Friday’s deadly terrorist attack and ignored the victims as they lay dying, the Israeli government will be launching an international campaign against the organization, which in principle does not treat Jews – despite being bound to treat all casualties regardless off their identity.

Israel’s Magen David Adom (MDA) emergency service, by contrast, regularly treats Palestinians.

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu ordered the foreign ministry to lodge a stern complaint with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Geneva, under whose auspices the Red Crescent operates, demanding an explanation as to why the Palestinian ambulance ignored Israeli victims, contrary to all humanitarian and ethical practices.

A foreign ministry source told Arutz Sheva that “Israel will enact all necessary sanctions against the Red Crescent.”

Netanyahu himself related to the incident in question this evening, during a press conference in which he condemned the terror attacks by ISIS in Paris.

“There was an incident yesterday, which appears to be very serious. The matter relates to an ambulance of the Red Crescent, which appears to have passed by the Litman family – (passed) by its dead and injured – and did not approach to give treatment.

Netanyahu further noted that “no such thing” had ever occurred with Israeli emergency services “who provide aid without distinction to Jews, to Arabs, to everyone.”

He added that if it became clear the incident was intentional, Israel will not remain silent and will use all the tools at its disposal against the Red Crescent.

Security sources say this is far from the first such incident. Red Crescent ambulances and other Palestinian medics have regularly ignored Israeli victims in need of treatment, in what appears to be a matter of policy.

In a deadly stabbing in October, which occurred right outside a Palestinian medical clinic in Jerusalem’s Old City, Arab doctors and medics simply stood by while the Jewish victims bled to death, and as other Arab passersby abused the wife of one of the victims as she attempted to escape with a knife still embedded in her back.

A Red Crescent ambulance team left the scene of a deadly West Bank attack Friday without offering aid and is now back to work, said relatives of victims Rabbi Yaakov Litman and his son Netanel.

The Palestinian Red Crescent backed up the crew and denied the claims of Israeli security and medical agencies. According to Palestinians, the team assisted the wounded but left the scene after a military medical team arrived “which made the team feel unsafe.”

The attack tool place on Friday afternoon, when the Litman family were traveling from the West Bank settlement of Kiryat Arba to Meitar for a Shabbat celebration before the wedding of their daughter. Terrorists waiting on the roadside opened fire on their car, and the father and son were killed while the mother and four other children were lightly wounded. It was reported Sunday that the perpetrator of the attack was caught and arrested.

Immediately after the attack, family members recounted that a Red Crescent ambulance arrived to the scene but left when the crew realized that the wounded were Jews. This version, according to which the crew left the area before the arrival of Israeli medical services, was supported by other findings in the investigation of the incident and the Magen David Adom hotline recording in which someone in the vehicle reported that “there is a Red Crescent vehicle here…the vehicle left us – I don’t know why.”

At a press conference convened by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Saturday, he noted that he had instructed the Foreign Ministry to contact the Red Cross institutions in Geneva to have them receive explanations from the Red Crescent for abandoning the wounded Israelis.

He said Israel would place all the necessary sanctions against the Red Crescent Society. “The incident seems very serious. I would like to mention that such a thing is not possible regarding Israel’s rescue service, who help everyone indiscriminately, Jews, Arabs, everyone.”
