NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET 4:THE DREAM MASTER, Robert Englund, Tuesday Knight, 1988

Welcome to Daily Trivia. There is a game to play here. The photo above relates to one of the items below. The first reader to correctly tell us in the comments what item the photo belongs to, and why, gets bragging rights. Sometimes they are obvious, other times the obvious answer is the decoy. Can you figure it out tonight?

As much at home writing editorials as being the subject of them, Cam has won awards, including the Canon Media Award for his work on the Len Brown/Bevan Chuang story.  And when he’s not creating the news, he tends to be in it, with protagonists using the courts, media and social media to deliver financial as well as death threats.

They say that news is something that someone, somewhere, wants kept quiet.   Cam Slater doesn’t do quiet, and as a result he is a polarising, controversial but highly effective journalist that takes no prisoners.

He is fearless in his pursuit of a story.

Love him or loathe him.  But you can’t ignore him.

Guest Post: The Donald Trump Phenomenon

American politics has always been a bit of a sideshow. Presidential elections usually throw up something slightly bizarre that the rest of the world can poke fun at. This year is no different. Donald Trump is proving to be much more than a short term headline grabber.

The western media have generally seen Trump as a temporary aberration.   They expected him to make a splash and then “wiser heads” in the Republican Party would oversee his shuffle off stage right. The Washington establishment would get it sorted.

However Trump has proved the pundits wrong.   He is holding his own. In most polls he has at least double the support of his nearest opponent. All this has raised the question “why”?

The MSM in the USA, especially the left leaning Washington Post and NY Times have run disparaging lines – earlier as throw away comments but as their casual approach didn’t work now the criticisms have become more strident and personal.

“What we have witnessed so far is a demonstration of how a billionaire megalomaniac and narcissist has fun: having secured a national stage, he runs around and says whatever he pleases, even if it is blatantly obnoxious. If he gets positive feedback, he does it all the louder. If he gets negative feedback, he turns into a bully, whom he also sees as fun”.

What the MSM haven’t quite figured is that the more they vilify Trump the stronger his support grows because of the resentment of the media and their arrogant, manipulative style.

The media are trying to find other reasons for Trump’s popularity. They claim he has support because he is a successful business man and Americans admire business success. Wrong!

They claim Trump has a rugged independence and swashbuckling image that appeals to voters. Wrong!   Read more »

Peter FitzSimons on Fatties

Peter FitzSimons has a great column in the SMH about how he managed to lose weight and improve his health…all without taxes.

Oi! You. Fatty Boomka.

Yes, you. Don’t look around, at others. I am talking to you, bloke.

And don’t be offended at being called “Fatty Boomka”, see, because I used to be you. You and I were the Boomka twins, and I could more than hold my own against you on the other end of the see-saw.

Until, finally, after a good 30 years of being on the endless yo-yo weight plan – very fat … pretty fat … not-so-fat-but-still-a-whole-lot-to-love … pretty-fat … very bloody fat – I’ve worked the whole thing out. I’m establishing the “yo diet”. I’ve worked out how to go down and stay down.

So do you want to hear the answer, or not? Bloke to bloke, no bullshit, no touchy-feely crap, no “miracle diets” nonsense, no Jenny Craig, no self-mutilation by taking out half your tummy, or putting in staples.
