Teacher buys LSD for supply – still registered

Every week we are provided proof that compulsory teacher registration, something the?opposition said was important because it is there to protect the kids, does nothing of the sort.

There is a parade of teachers before the courts and the disciplinary tribunal. This one bought and dispensed LSD…but he is still registered.

A Masterton teacher who dished out LSD tabs to his mates on a weekend getaway at a bach has been censured.

Isaac Dransfield was charged with serious misconduct by the Education Council complaints committee for supplying and consuming class A drugs in November 2014.

He was employed as a teacher at Rathkeale College in Masterton at the time.

Dransfield, now 27, bought eight LSD tabs and took the drugs with his friends at a bach at Aromoana Beach in Central Hawke’s Bay, where the group were celebrating a birthday. ?

However when one of the group went missing, Dransfield confessed to police they had been taking drugs and took full responsibility.

In court he pleaded guilty to the criminal charge of supplying class A drugs and was discharged without conviction.

Dransfield told the New Zealand Teachers Disciplinary Tribunal it was the first time he had taken serious drugs.

First time? Bullshit. How did he know who and where to buy the?drugs from? Happenstance?

“This experience has ensured that I will never again go anywhere near them,” he said.

He said he loved teaching, which had shown him “a light within myself”.

“I only hope I haven’t wasted my potential with such an idiotic mistake.”

Idiot. Luckily for him, the Education Council likes hitting teachers with a wet bus ticket.

In its decision the tribunal noted it was not an easy case, as Dransfield had taken the drugs in his private life and not a school environment.

It censured Dransfield, suspended his registration for a year dating from November 2014, and ordered him to pay costs.

So no suspension then, and the year is already up.
