Great big donnybrook building in GOP

Ted Cruz and John Kasich are teaming up to try and stop Trump.

Ted Cruz and John Kasich have begun coordinating their campaign strategy to stop Donald Trump, an abrupt alliance announced Sunday night that includes Kasich quitting his efforts in Indiana and Cruz clearing a path for the Ohio governor in Oregon and New Mexico.

“To ensure that we nominate a Republican who can unify the Republican Party and win in November, our campaign will focus its time and resources in Indiana and in turn clear the path for Gov. Kasich to compete in Oregon and New Mexico, and we would hope that allies of both campaigns would follow our lead,” Cruz campaign manager Jeff Roe said in a statement.

Trump fired back late Sunday on Twitter, writing, “Wow, just announced that Lyin’ Ted and Kasich are going to collude in order to keep me from getting the Republican nomination. DESPERATION!”

He added, for good measure: “Lyin’ Ted and Kasich are mathematically dead and totally desperate. Their donors & special interest groups are not happy with them. Sad!”

Trump followed up early Monday morning with a lengthier statement released by his campaign, calling out both rivals for reverting to “collusion” to stop him.

“When two candidates who have no path to victory get together to stop a candidate who is expanding the party by millions of voters, (all of whom will drop out if I am not in the race) it is yet another example of everything that is wrong in Washington and our political system,” he said. “This horrible act of desperation, from two campaigns who have totally failed, makes me even more determined, for the good of the Republican Party and our country, to prevail!”

The new Cruz-Kasich pact is an acknowledgment that neither man can overtake Trump in the race, and both know their best shot at preventing Trump from clinching the nomination outright is to team up to block his path and force a contested convention. And it may still be too late: Trump is closing in on the number of delegates he needs to win the nomination.

The GOP should have done this months ago, and not with Kasich, but with Rubio.

The problem is Ted Cruz was too arrogant and too much of a C U Next Tuesday. It is too little too late and may in fact backfire. Kasich is thought to be of the same type as Ted Cruz, just less obnoxious.

Trump may not get the nomination before the convention but he is going to get close. The other two have no path to victory.

If this goes to an open convention then it will be harder to pick than a broken nose.

The interesting thing with this alliance is that apparently, under US law they are effectively depriving people of the “right to vote” which is a felony!

  • Mine it,Drill it,Sell it.

Trump should throw a real cat amongst ther pigeons and announce Megan Kelly as his running mate.Megan for Vice President then she too could say CU NEXT

  • Tony Norriss

This is indeed a desperate act and plays right into Trumps meme of the establishment being rotten. The likely effect is to swing more votes in behind Trump.

The only reason Cruz and Kasich have collaborated in this way can only be that they see it as an absolutely lost cause otherwise, and so there is little more that can be lost by adopting this dubious and highly speculative strategy.

This is just fascinating to watch, the sad sack that i am watch’s fox news daily.
There is going to be blood on the floor if the GOP pick someone other than Trump,my pick is for them to try and pick Rubio,I like his style, but if the people want Trump then thats who it should be.There is a pretty good chance that now Cruz and Kasich have teamed up to stop Trump that voters could get behind Trump and push him over the line

    • Mine it,Drill it,Sell it.

I agree with nearly every thing you say as I too have not laughed so much since the old Whale Oil days when I would go home from the office with tear stains on my cheeks from reading the comments now I am watching Fox for entertainment.

I don’t agree with you about Little Marco something about him makes me think he would play a walk on part in a Mob movie with no need to rehearse his lines.

What’s happened to fox, hasn’t been on for a day or two.

        • Mine it,Drill it,Sell it.

Not sure cows but is on now Trumpeting Trump latest results which was a very strong five state clean sweep.

          • cows4me

It’s not on here, perhaps Sky has gone all Liberal on us.

          • Mine it,Drill it,Sell it.

Maybe it disappeared down the hole like the rabbit in the tattoo.

Don’t think it will work, it just affirms Trump is strongest and telling people who to vote for so you can attempt to “stop” or influence a democratic process is like a red rag to a bull to many voters. They won’t like being told what to do or that they can’t have the candidate they want.

    • STAG

Very much like the moron from up north and the fat computer nerd. I think the voters can see though the maneuvering to the callus attempt to keep the o;d system in place. I’m enjoying watching this train wreck within the GOP.

  • cows4me

Given the mood of Trump supporters and those thinking of supporting Trump this move by Cruz and Kasich will be like a red rag to a bull. The people are sick to their back teeth of the political elite and this will simply send over more voters to Trump.

    • PersonOfColor:WHITE

      Possibly.
Trumpsters strike me as low-information fanatics (very like most lefty trolls). But if you listen carefully for even a little while you will recognise that they will be even angrier after they find out that he is a Democrat through and through and won’t deliver any of the things they hear him talk about….what a mess.

      • cows4me

Low information fanatics or people tied of the high cost leeches in the beltway ? So Trump won’t deliver, so what’s new. I just love the dribble coming out the “experts” mouths, as if their leaders and political systems are God’s gift, more power to him I say. Why vote for the same crap and expect a different result.

        • PersonOfColor:WHITE

Because this different result will not be the one they thought they were going to get. Mark my words.

          • biscuit barrel

he cant win , as Hilary will rush to claim the middle faster than you can say Monica. Middle is where elections are won, ask President Bob Dole and President McCain

      • Jman

Trump is hardly a Democrat. He’s not really much of a conservative either. What he is, is a Nationalist ie. putting America first rather than illegal immigrants and foreign muslims. This is something that a lot of Americans, both Republican and Democrat will vote for.

  • rangitoto

Trump takes a five state sweep today. Looks like any collusion hasn’t paid off so far.

    • Crowgirl

It’s mostly to benefit them in some of the primaries yet to come, where they have more of a fighting chance than they did in the 5 primaries today. It will be interesting to see if it has any impact, but I think Trump will take California, so he’s still in the box seat.

  • Builder

The results are staggering, or would make your head spin as Donald Trump says. I think he has made so much ground today that even if he loses Indiana next week, he will still make the 1237 he needs.

    • Justme

Yesterday, Trump need 56+% of the delegates left. And that was cause for them to say he wouldn’t get the 1237 needed. After these five primaries, that ratio needed now drops to 46%. A couple of more good days like this and the odds start to shorten in his favour immensely.

      • biscuit barrel

They have all ready, as the biggest state California is coming up ( its mostly a postal ballot). The other medium sized one is Indiana, but not much info from there as they dont allow robo polls.
Practically impossible for him to lose if he wins big in those two states

  • Superman

After todays results Cruz and Kasich are history. The results today probably reflect the fact that the Cruz-Kasich pact is exactly the sort of Washington-type move that people are so angry about.

  • yoyoyo

This is what happens when you tell voters they are stupid and you know better then them. Bye bye Cruz
