    Religions of all sorts have a lot to answer for.

    It is estimated that about 1.7 million died in the crusades (counting both sides) and that represented about 5% of the world population at the time.

    An interesting one is the comparison between Muslim invasions of Christian lands compared to the opposite… It certainly removes the arguments that todays Muslim terrorists are nothing but payback for the crusaders of the past

    Worth remembering that at the time, Palestine had been under Muslim control for rather less time by a couple of hundred years than it had been under Christian control. The Crusades were a re-conquest attempt in response to increasing problems encountered by Christian pilgrims to Jerusalem, though of course there were other motivations.
