I recall spending weeks trying to figure out why microprocessor equipment I was repairing with a new chip was failing with a new fault. The new chip had a clock fault and so did the next replacement and so did the next at which point I decided what are the chances of the same fault reappearing. Turns out a logistic person had decided he knew best and bought new chips that were much cheaper than the normal source and these chips had a manufacturing clock fault that 90% of the time would be OK but not in the equipment I was repairing. Weeks wasted unravelling this mystery.
