The Big O. A little before my time, but I have a huge amount of respect for a man who is willing to champion a part of society that is considered a joke to most, just because, just because he has a big heart. Only the Lonely.

  • I know some of you are really into cats, but here’s proof they have been bastards since way back.

    Keep on trucking Keith. (pic)

      Robin Williams knew.

    • Wasapilot

I have brought his autobiography titled “life”, haven’t started in yet, but will hopefully be a ripper of a read. How he can still function is beyond me.

Who is this bieber person? ?

      • Nige.

I have been advised that it is fantastic. I had a look at the Netflix exclusive on him and was very impressed.

      • Mark

It is a great read! You will likely read it in short order.

      • cows4me

So you have no daughters then?

        • Wasapilot

Yep, youngest is 26 in October this year, and SWMBO and I have blessed her with a musical upbrining that means she dislikes that kind of rubbish. She loves jazz, blues, and good ol rock n roll.

    • MarcWills

Proof there is life after embalming.

      • KatB

Or is that embalming whilst living?

  • Jude

    Go the Canes!?
A big night for the team here is hoping they all play well.

    • Nechtan

      Chiefs all the way!! :-)

      • Jude

It is a big ask for the Canes but whoever wins, I hope it is a close won game?

    • hookerphil

Surprise to me but the TAB have the Canes favourite. I’ve taken the Chiefs so that will be a good omen for you. Perhaps might be a draw?

      • JohnO

A very even game after 13 minutes.. 8-7 to the canes. I think the chiefs will finish stronger.

        • hookerphil

Gosh, the Chiefs are playing poorly by making so many mistakes. If they stop dropping the ball and being offside they will win as the Hurricanes are not scoring the points they should have.

  • Nige.

Good grief TV NZ news shows a protester openly saying he wants to break the legs of people who say that Hospital food is ok

    • You still watch TV news? See me in my office please.

      • Nige.

Come oooon.but was on in the background.

      • willtin

Let me get this right. A protestor of Hospital Food wants to make a whole lot more people suffer Hospital Food?

        • Nige.

Yes. He was talking about Johnathan Coleman and the staff of compass.

    • Hospital food is OK. I was in North Shore recently and will be back in again soon and there is nothing wrong with it.

Oh and if anyone from NSH is here you guys are awesome.

      • I think it’s one of those things people like to moan about, but I never had a bad meal in hospital. Mind you, when I went private the meal was absurd. I guess I was “paying” for it, but still, who expects silver service and restaurant grade food? :D

        • Orca

As a 12 year-old I had my tonsils out at a private hospital in Nelson. The morning after the operation they gave me dry toast and chunky dried meat for breakfast. After I haemorrhaged, and they gave me a morphine shot, I can still remember projectile vomitting blood all over the bed. But that’s just me. In public hospitals, they gave you ice-cream after throat surgery.

Disinfectant answered last nights question with:

    ” too many fatty takeaways”

What are your takeway habbits? Frequency/favorite/last time/ old favs….?

    • MaryLou

Has to be Burger Fuel. Soooo good.

      • Nige.

I hate how we get ads down here for takeaways that we don’t have. I emailed Wendy’s once to tell them that what they do by advertising the baconator is tantamount to torture.

If anyone wants to do a swapsie for a ®Pork Belly Burleigh Pie ™

        • MaryLou

My favourite is the Bacon Backfire. I’d link to it, but that’d probably be cruel…

          • Nige.

Is there any way you could send me a used serviette?

          • MaryLou

No, I lick them clean :)

          • Nige.

Bah ha ha. I’d believe it too

          • Ooooh, that might have to be tomorrow

          • MaryLou

You won’t regret it. It’s heaven in a brown paper bag…

        • rantykiwi

There’s 2 Wendys stores in Christchurch now, so they’re getting closer to you.

    • I can not admit to this in public. Suffice to say, my 13 year old son wasn’t wrong today :

      • MaryLou

        LOL Happy Meal??

        • To quote Queen Jude

          “You’ll Keep”

          • Nechtan

What toy did you get? :-)

          • rantykiwi

The little simian one with genuine imitation fur I expect.

      • Nige.

You told me you had sushi!!!!

        • That was breakfast

    • ex-JAFA

A place up the road specialises in exotic burgers such as tahr, llama, etc. No camel, though. Very tasty and reasonably priced.

      • MaryLou

In Te Puke?? My, how things change…

      • sandalwood789

Quite a few years ago I was visiting the rellies in Hawke’s Bay and we went to the “farmers’ market” there. I had an ostrich burger – it wasn’t very big but it was *very* filling. A lot like beef, I thought.

    • Carl

Only the world famous Ferg Burger once a month. Cant beat it. Yes they are this size when you buy them. (pic)

    • Odd Ball

When I’m back in NZ, it’s paua fritters, crabsticks, and snapper, just because I miss it!

    • rantykiwi

Too often. And the last one was a decently hot chicken curry from the Indian place next door to work yesterday (my normal Friday lunch). As for my favourite – it’s got to be old fashioned fish and chips.

    • XCIA

Phillips Air Fryer, simplicity itself. All you need to do is shake the basket now and again. I use Watties Chunky Golden Fries, Sealord Kumera Fish bites alternating with Waitoa Tempura chicken nuggets. I make my own hamburgers (at least I know what goes in the rump beef patty) and candidly, I don’t miss hanging around for takeaways.

      • Mark

I have an Actifry which I enjoy. I make my own hamburgers too, they have a Hamburger patty in them, sometimes I make “Gourmet” ones & add, bacon & a hash brown & an egg.!

    • Left Right Out

I’ve been to the Heart Attack Grill in Vegas….. absolutely insane. They have scales out the front and if your over 300lbs you eat free

    • sheppy

Latest takeaway habit is sitting in the Birkenhead Brewing Company enjoying a couple of cheeky beers whilst the takeaway cooks. Thai on one side, pizza the other, and Indian across the road

      • sheppy

Also the food truck garage is good albeit busy when short of time and heading south from the shore

  • HK_EXPAT_IN_NEW_ZEALAND

There was a Medical Cannabis Rally held in Nelson and Dunedin today, with Peter Dunne claiming the Cannabis policy is drawn on compassion, I find it hard to believe:

    http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/79254632/medicinal-cannabis-rally-held-in-nelson-by-mother-of-late-teen-alex-renton

Also some US states have permitted Medical Cannabis for the following conditions:

Autism aka Fragile X Syndrome (Pennsylvania, Illinois and California have permitted Autism as a Qualifying Condition for Medical Cannabis).
    Alzheimer’s
    Diabetes
    Glaucoma
    Obesity
    Cancer
    and other conditions

    • willtin

One day the rest of the World will open their eyes. and while they might be slightly bloodshot, as least they will be more understanding of the benefits of cannabis.
Crikey, I just looked it up on that groggy thing, and for crying out loud; The USA is leading the way. Who would’a thunk?
Meanwhile, any chance that New Zealand has ever had to lead by example, led us only to a Dunnce.

    • hookerphil

That will not do Trump any harm.

  • john Doe

Just a couple of points for the media and social media commenters about ANZAC day.
. We do not celebrate ANZAC Day we commemorate it.
. The Last Post is played with a bugle not a trumpet.
. Not every serviceman is a Soldier. Some of us served in the Navy or RNZAF.
. They are medals not badges.
. They are my own medals not my father’s.
. Don’t try to compare us ex servicemen and servicemen with sports people ,artists and singers. We served!

To all service people , stay safe and don’t let anyone rain on your parade.

    • Nige.

That’s deserving of a meme or something that goes viral on social media.

  • Nige.

How’s this for a serious steak chef?

I personally have had steak 3 times this week.

    3!!!!

That’s amazing for me. And still my mouth is watering at the sight if this picture someone has just sent me.

    • Why is everything about food tonight?

      • Nige.

I could kill for a decent kebab

        • Sheesh..

        • rantykiwi

Go to Turkey. Find out what kebab means, and then start sampling them. You will discover kebabs you never knew existed, and they are all great.

    • MaryLou

Oh that’s wrong. You need to kill it before you eat it.

      • Nige.

No, that’s before it is cooked. I hope.

    • rantykiwi

I’ve also had steak 3 times this week. And I’m not regretting it at all. Total agreement on the medium rare too.

  • XCIA

Forget the tin foil hat, this is the business and it grows you a new crop of hair at the same time,

    • willtin

      Where do I order one?

      • XCIA

Probably from the same place as this little gem ;-)

  • OK then. Don’t come crying to me afterwards. There will be no 10/10 tomorrow.
    .

    • Nige.

The Motorhead question will stump 97% of readers.

      • hookerphil

        I hate questions on cars.

    • willtin

      Timed out, only 9/10

    • Miss McGerkinshaw

I don’t get to the quiz. When I click on the text just get the picture in a new tab?Not vital to prove how few I get right but just curious why it doesn’t like me :-((

      • Either things on your PC are a little broken, or your security settings are so high as to stop the quiz from working.

        • Miss McGerkinshaw

Wash your mouth out with soap and water – PC!?!?!?!!!!!
That said I am a little concerned at some ‘interesting’ things my Mac is doing. As to security settings – er, um, um er?

Anyway working now but as only got 2 am, almost, sorry that it did!

      • Mark

The photo is just that in the post above, the quiz will (has) appeared tomorrow/today,now you will be really confused, sorry! LOL

        • Miss McGerkinshaw

Thanks for the info, but by the time I read this the quiz was up and running and I had disgraced myself with a 2. Might have been better if it’d never worked for me ;-)

  • hookerphil

    Well done Mark Hammant.

    • Wasapilot

Good to see them get their first win. Bad for my footy picking progress though as I had the argies.

  • cows4me

For those that are interested keep a close eye on you upvote totals. I check mine at night before leaving WO over the last few weeks I probably have lost about 1000. Just today I’ve lost 60. A moderator on Disqus claims that if someones account is closed the votes that person has given over the time they held the account is removed. It seems many a very upset about this state of affairs. I originally thought it may be a way to punish commentators by those that don’t follow the same politics, seems not. But no one is really sure, some think it may be a virus but whatever is going on makes little sense.

    • I’m surprised I haven’t been murdered then. I had no idea that was going on, and clearly I would have to have been one of the suspects.

      • cows4me

Check the Disqus Q&A Pete. If Disqus is behind this they aren’t doing themselves many favors.

        • Don’t worry. I’m sure you’ll get to 100,000 before me ;)

          • cows4me

To be honest I’m not that fussed but I’m going backwards faster then going forward. I can handle down votes if those voting me down want to talk about it, this is just insane.

          • Carl

Off topic Cows but I Taiking to the family asking them that the current New Plymouth mayor must be a dead man walking but they reckoned he could be safe as there is no one else who wants it other than Harry Duynhoven. Is that the case

          • cows4me

I believe the current mayor has stated he doesn’t wish to stand again. Delusion with the way people took his idea for unelected Maori representatives was mentioned, oh dear. He’s not our mayor, we are South Taranaki, but I’m with the people.

          • Carl

Harry wont be any better. He has had a go and failed. He only got back on the council when Horse quit. P.s I see Coastal lost again but Inglewood is not doing very well either.

          • cows4me

Yeah Horse is a good man sadly he’s a bit to much like me, rough around the edges and not very PC. Went to the game today, about three quarters of the spotty dogs are imports, Fijians, Islanders, Japanese and a few other hanger-ons, some big lads. The Coastal guys did alright but lost it the last quarter.

        • Mark

I used to spend time hating Disqus & being stuck with them, now I’m ambivalent & apathetic.

          • It’s the best horrible solution out there, but I mostly hate it for its complete lack of decent moderation tools. The back-end is dreadful.

          • Mark

Yeah I resigned myself when I realised you thought that. Especially since I don’t know of a better solution.well one that does the blog & the forum.

    • colin herbertson

ah, so it’s not just me,i’ve only had 1 or 2 evaporating per day, but then i;m less prolific than you, and it seems to have stopped in the last cupla days.
shouldn’t be a big deal really but it’s just so annoying not knowing why.

      • Spiker

Short of keeping a daily diary of your tally how do you know they are going away?
I hadn’t had a look at my profile for the longest time, even though I don’t say a lot compared to some they do start to add up after awhile. I wish they hadn’t done away with the down votes as feedback in the other direction is good to see as well. I’d rather know about it if I’m making an ass of myself than carry on blissfully unaware..

        • cows4me

If you look at your Avatar say daily you’ll soon pick it up. Example this morning before I went to feed out I checked my total it was 77153, tonight it was 77094 but I haven’t posted anything till 6.45 tonight and this has been happen for weeks usually around 100 votes daily. So it’s either deliberate or there is something wrong with the system.

          • Spiker

I think you may have broke it. I don’t think I could be bothered keeping track, I’ve got enough other stuff to try & keep up with.

          • XCIA

Yes, different if they were like FB points and you could cash them in ;-)

          • FornaK

Sounds like it’s been happening, ever since you started charging a toll to use your road as a detour!

          • cows4me

Haha. The neighbors wouldn’t have a clue what WO is nor would they care.

          • ex-JAFA

            10:15am 24/4/16 I see you’re down to 76913. They’re definitely evaporating.

    • Old Chook

Disquis keeps logging me out so when I go to up vote someone- and often you Cows- find I have to re log in so just flag it . Maybe happening to others. NB I had to log in especially to tell you this!

      • You’re losing your cookies. It’s a setting. Go find someone born this century to help. ;)

        • Orca

Losing your cookies? Is that the new way of saying you are losing your marbles?

          • Mark

Pea & Diced Carrot cookies eeewwwww!

          • KatB

I think that’s tossing/hurling your cookies. Yes eeeewwwww

      • cows4me

Thanks for the effort Old Chook, I would suggest you give Pete’s idea ago. It’s probably something very simple but with computers you only have to put a . in the wrong place and your whole day can be ruined. The more frustrated you get the deeper in poop you get.

    • Orca

I didn’t even know we had upvote totals, where are they?

      • hookerphil

Put cursor on your “thing” you have 835.

        • Orca

I’m not putting any cursor on my “thing”, I hardly even know you!

  • Nige.

I just reached for the Lea and perrins sauce to put on my evening meal and wondered how old it was (as this is normal for sauce to be long past expired).

What do you think is/could be the oldest thing you have in your food cupboard?

    • MarcWills

A packet of baking soda – stained and unused.

    • hookerphil

Bottles of Milkshake flavours that I scavenged 8 years ago that are so old do not have any use by dates on them.

    • Orca

I have six 28 year old bottles of montepulciano D’abruzzo, and two 32 year old bottles of Glenfiddich.

      • hookerphil

Good to see food is booze, hadn’t thought of that, would have some 40+ bottles brought when stupid, now just silly.

        • Orca

He did say the oldest thing in your food cupboard, not specifically the oldest food. Now I already discounted the old cat that died 2 years ago and that weird brown object in the bottom corner.

    • Greg M

Some Mongolian walnut extract. On the back it says “11/08 өмнө сайн”. I should biff it out, but memories.

      • Mark

That’s probably where the “Nanny Cam” is,go on admit it that explains a few things?

    • Dan

Some Chinese blackbean paste. Been there for at least 5 years. Still, I figure it is all right as I use it in small amounts maybe once a month.

    • dumbshit

Quarter of a bottle of White Horse Whisky, left over from wife’s parents wedding circa 1948.

    • willtin

My 3 year old, curried pickle onions – still good.

      • Nige.

My Nana always had really old expired Vegemite. Gee I loved it.

        • Orca

          wanna buy some, really old?

    • Michelle

l borrowed a can of condensed milk off a neighbour and wondered why it was a darker colour when l put it on the slice
When it was in the oven l looked at the tin and it was 5 yrs past it’s use by date
No one knew the difference once baked and it tasted ok from the tin

    • Aquarius 61

A presentation box with a bottle of Laurent Perrier Cuvee Rose Brut given to me at LP in 1989. Still waiting for the right occasion to drink it.

      I shan’t mention the …
      Marmite expired May ’08
Laksa paste (unopened!) expired Dec ’08
Evaporated milk bought Jun ’07 expired Feb ’08
Probably lots of packets of herb/spices
Vegemite – date has worn off bought some time in 2009 (by Aussie visitors)

Thanks for the reminder to check – none of these will go back in the fridge/pantry now!

  • MarcWills

Words fail me … this young boy was evacuated for the night to a local marae as an armed gunman was holed up in their suburb. There are armed Police swarming the neighborhood, yet the parents thought this was an appropriate toy to play with at the time. Pic from Stuff online.

    • Uncle Bully

      um, what pic?

      • Refresh the page?

        • Uncle Bully

          thanks

    • Mark

I spent until I was seven with various & opposing armed people roaming the neighbourhood, but toy guns were illegal,
I came to NZ & grew up with a lifelong appreciation for firearms, along with friends in the “Gun Culture” who I have had for in excess of thirty years.

      It’s just a toy gun.

    • Spiker

The only problem I see there is the kid should be taught about keeping his finger off the trigger, toy or not.

    • Nechtan

It is probably the young fella’s favourite toy. Regardless of the reason that caused his family’s evacuation its better he has something familiar to play with (hold) than not.

    • willtin

He’s telling me that he is protecting his family.

  • Spiker

So whats the status of Bruce? Last I saw he was going fishing. Did he ever return?

    • Ah, good question.

    • Pluto

Yep Bruce enjoyed his fishing in Raglan Harbour, Facebook post soon.
SB looking for his next stop

  • So, people of Whaleoil, what do you always feel awkward doing?

As a man, I’ve gotten over doing the groceries which may include things for Mrs Pete.

But there is one thing I hate doing and I can’t get over: When Mrs Pete tells me to hold her handbag in public.

I have no idea why I can’t get over that.

Do you have anything that makes you feel awkward?

    • hookerphil

If you have to hold it, at least do the mimic walk.

    • Nige.

Stuff a plastic bag in her bag somewhere she won’t notice it. Then when you have to do the holding her bag thing, pull out your planted plastic bag and put hers into it.

      #keepingmancard

      • Good god. How practical. #nigeisamangod

        • Nige.

It was one of your life hacks from general debate about 2 years ago.

          Ahhh life hacks.

          • So you don’t think this was all a set-up to generate more comments then?

          • Nige.

I thought we were data gathering to sell to big banks?

      • Greg M

Yep. Bonus points for a Placemakers or Mitre 10 bag.

Dancing, have been with a few women who certainly deserved my best efforts, because they made it look so good, never been able to do it.

    • Dan

Dancing. I call myself a 6 beer dancer. It takes that long for the alcohol to kill offor the dance inhibition. Oh and holding handbags. Oh, and wearing pink.

      • Left Right Out

Yes, I’m one of those not quite standing not quite dancing sorta guys

    • My ex once handed me her handbag in the mall and as was her wont simply expected that I’d take it and she released her grip on the handle.

It hit the concrete tile pavers with the sound of perfume bottles and cellphones breaking.
She started to erupt when she noticed something she’d never seen before (she would revel this much later) and it was that I was completely silent with a blank, oblivious look on my face and that my eyes had gone jet black.

She never EVER attempted a stunt like that in public again.

    • Mark

I’ve lost count of the amount of tampons, & Ponstan,Microlax,Nurafen,Bras etc I’ve bought, holding handbags isn’t going to faze me.
You just have to “Own” it.
I’ve got my pharmacist cover story down pat & probably should be buying precursors & flogging them off LOL.

The oddest ok maybe most interesting thing was the urgently needed medical banana.

      • I could tell chemist related stories where I’ve gone in to purchase products not for myself, but I know that if Mrs Pete finds me out, there will be no end to my pain. So I won’t. (sadly, because they’re good stories)

        • Mark

Oh trust me I know,I am actually being quite discrete.

        • Orca

You’re among friends now, we won’t tell, spill.

Edit: Oh god, I think I’m going all, “housewives of Mt Eden”.

    • XCIA

When your mother paraded you before all and sundry dressed in a highland outfit until you were eight, trust me nothing makes you feel awkward later in life.

      • Orca

No, No, don’t feel like that. In Scotland as we speak, there are plenty of men who dress in tartan skirts, with long socks and matching high heeled boots, wearing imitation handbags known as sporans, and doing a girly jig. I don’t see why that should make you feel awkward. In fact, you could get a job as a royal guard.

        • XCIA

“Men” being the operative word. When you are the “boy” who has no choice, it is a little different.

    • Mark

People of Whaleoil, makes me feel awkward, all I see is People of Walmart. ;)

    • Orca

I have tried to sidle towards a quiet area of the mall, and then surrepticiously lower the handbag to the floor and stand in front of it to hide it from view. Then when my lovely wife arrives, I get “how dare you let my bag touch the ground, that’s so dirty, you may as well have put it on the floor of the toilet”. One day I may have the guts to tell her that I have indeed put it on the floor of the toilet several times before.

    • Asian_driver

I always find getting my prostate checked a little awkward

      • Mark

Can’t you find an Asian_nurse with small hands?

        • Asian_driver

Are you suggesting they use their whole hand?

          • Mark

No idea, mine was checked with a blood test.

          • Old Dig

Blood test? You mean that the finger in the balloon knot isn’t necessary? O__O

          • Mark

Seemingly you should have both? I’m still in denial.

      • jonno1

Speaking of prostate checks – a reminder to all guys over 40 to have both the PSA test and digital exam regularly (at least annually). Also be aware of any changes in the waterworks department. Had my prostate check the other day at the same time as my mole check. 10 seconds of mild discomfort is nothing compared with the alternative if something is amiss. My PSA is gradually rising, so having more frequent checks; the trick is that if there’s a developing problem then get it dealt with early.

    • jonno1

At my age, very little, I’m over it! But if I have to suggest something, it’s forgetting the name of someone I know reasonably well but see infrequently.

      The hits keep coming.

Bruce Springsteen -Dancing in the dark.

      https://youtu.be/129kuDCQtHs

      • hookerphil

Now that’s better than car stuff, loved the dancing bit even though it was just a setup.

        • Mark

Ah but do you remember who the cute girl is?

          • hookerphil

No and I just googled it to find out but she does not mean anything to me.

          • KatB

If you watched “Friends”, she was Monica Geller on that.

          • Well well…I’d forgotten all about Courtney. Well done that man!

      • Dan

you are on a roll Nige! Now go for the triple by going for the best tune between 1984 and 1990. … Or not!

  • AlexWattsEsq @AlexWattsEsq

Oh, not Shakespeare too. What a year.

    • Mark

I went to Pop Up Globe last night, most entertaining. Thanks Cadbury.

  • Hey Cows, that culvert might need some digging out on Tuesday:

“Heavy rain is forecast for Buller tonight, also for the Tararua range and Taranaki/Mount Egmont overnight and early in the morning.”

    • XCIA

From Cows last photo, I think the council have it all well in hand ;-)

  • kayaker

Me and Mr K have just been to see Hunt for The Wilderpeople. Go see it. That’s all.

    • KatB

Our son’s just seen it twice, two days running. Two friends invited him. He loved it. Played to a rather full theatre tonight in our small town. It doesn’t happen often that our big old theatre gets close to full for a movie. Must get to see it ourselves.

    • Nige.

This one with Redford on tv3 right now: ‘all is lost’ is fantastic.

  • Jude

Wrong side of ledger but only one point in it?

    • hookerphil

I think the final 3 minutes with that stupid rule is enough to put me off rugby.
The Hurricanes needed to be able to contest those scrums and they would have won it. However, a good start to my TAB pick 7 ow need Crusaders to bookend it at the other end.
Hurricanes to Africa, wheels might be falling off?

      • Jude

No, after five straight wins , it is a wake up. They should have won that game though.

        • hookerphil

Missed kicks do not help – the penalty on halftime was a bit of a sitter.

          • Jude

Yeah the kicking was a real disappointment .

    • Curly1952

Good game of footy though Jude. I am now 0 from 4 in the picking comp.

      • hookerphil

        cross tick cross tick

        • Curly1952

          Random button?

          • Wasapilot

I have a grand total of 5 points so far this round. Deperate times, so I might have to pick some draws next week.

          • hookerphil

The trouble is with doing picks is that sometimes when watching you would quite like the team you have not picked, i.e. the Japanese today – to win but it will cost you points.

      • Jude

I am only 1 from 4 so I am not that flash myself!

  • rantykiwi

Have just been to Auckland Museum to look at the ANZAC commemorative stuff that’s going on. The crosses on the grassed area below the Cenotaph are very moving. (pic)

    • Orange

Easy to drive to, see from car?

      • rantykiwi

Easy enough to drive to, and parking close by is available. If you drive across the front of the museum below the cenotaph you’ll get a decent view from the car but may not be able to stop for long (or at all). Definitely a daytime visit though – they aren’t lit at night.

        • Orange

That was awesome, thanks so much! Managed to get a park right by it as someone was leaving. Great to take the younguns to. I notice they have about 1800 up for the first two years of Auckland Area people who died in the war. Another two years worth of crosses are still to go up.

    • crigs

It is a moving sight. We have one set up in Cranmer Square in Christchurch at the moment too.

  • nellie

Geez those immigrants and their chinky sounding names, who’d have them….me for one.

    Okay fess up.

Who left the door to the South island open and let the screaming skull in?

I see he is living in Chch now.

    • hookerphil

I see he has a column in the Press – if I had not already cancelled my subscription because of the crap reporting I would have now.

    • Nige.

Urgh. Don’t remind me. I was speaking to a (disgusted) woman who’s sister was one of these ones:

      http://i.stuff.co.nz/national/3212353/John-Minto-arrested-at-tennis-protest

Just like a cult, she doesn’t really know why she was there. Didn’t believe in what they were doing. Just caught up in it. Very proud of herself for being part of it though by the sounds of the story.

  • Aucky

    Online Herald headline

    ‘Chiefs edge Canes in Barnburner.’

Has anyone ever heard of a barnburner before? I guess they really mean ‘barnstormer’.

    • Greg M

Yup. Gone are the days when a reporter sat in front of a typewriter and put the news together. Now we have kids putting their opinion pieces down using their “smart devices” with auto correct, and no sub editors before publication.
But that’s all okay, we don’t have to read their drivel. I still miss the old newspapers, and the journalists like Pat Booth etc.

    • XCIA

barn burner – noun NORTH AMERICAN informal: a very exciting or dramatic event, especially a sports contest. “she won a barn burner of a debate against the party leader”

      • Aucky

Well, they say that you learn something new every day. I had never heard that expression before.

    • hookerphil

They are not sure how to handle wins up there.

  • Miss McGerkinshaw

Shhh, it’s in disguise so don’t tell anyone.

Well see that’s where I differ I will admit to having problems, not only with my lovely, delicious apple, but just not as many!!! And anyway it’s so pretty who cares?
