microbiome (noun) – The complete genetic content of all the microorganisms that typically inhabit a particular environment, especially a site on or in the body, such as the skin or the gastrointestinal tract.

Etymology : 1950s: from micro- and biome. Micro = extremely small. Biome = a large naturally occurring community of flora and fauna occupying a major habitat, e.g. forest or tundra.
