Weekend warriors take to each other instead of ducks

Two people have been shot within hours of the duck shooting season opening.

One man was shot in the eye and another shot in the wrist in separate incidents.

A rescue helicopter was called to Lismore near Ashburton after the first incident about 7.45am.

St John ambulance said a man in his 30s had suffered a wrist injury.

He was expected to be flown to Christchurch Hospital.

Police have been informed.

Fifteen minutes later, a man was shot in the eye in a duck shooting accident in the Tararua District.

I’m staying well clear of those inbred idiots by targeting quail and pheasant on private property.  Much safer that way.  I’m told there are at least 1000 quail, so even the 700 rounds I brought might not be enough.

I presume this isn’t a cheap sport. At the end of the season, what would it cost per duck or quail ?

Depends how good a shot you are. It’s like any other sport, there is no limit on how much money can be spent, example, a shotgun can range from $500 to $50,000 .

Pent up demand…. To shoot guns at anything!

A newspaper is reporting a kid has been shot in the foot as well – this must be duck-related surely.

usually up here it sounds like a war has started but this year it has been quiet so the Jafa’s must have stayed home this year or they have lost the land to shoot on

they were lethal they came here once to shoot turkeys heads poked out of the sun roof, letting off shots all over the place, we hid inside as you didn’t know where they would point the guns next, no aiming or worrying about what was in the way

Very quiet here but l think it will start up soon when the locals have finished work and head out

700 rounds?????? bloody expensive birds, that is unless you nail 2100 birds haha

  • johcar

Lots of ducks taking shelter on the pond on the tenth hole at South Head Golf Course today. I suspect these birds are not as stupid as they look….
