Just watched Corin Dann on the news. What a know it all dick head he really is. Complete tosser in my opinion. Don’t know why he keeps his job

  • Curly1952

Great way to explain the difference between the Right and the Left!!
A young woman was about to finish her first year of university. Like so many others her age, she considered herself to be Labour Party minded, and she was very much in favour of higher taxes to support her education and for more government programs – in other words, the redistribution of wealth.
She was deeply ashamed that her father was a rather staunch blue-ribbon Conservative, a feeling she openly expressed. Based on the lectures that she had attended and the occasional chat with a professor, she felt that her father had for years harboured a selfish desire to keep what he thought should be his.
One day she was challenging her father on his opposition to higher taxes on the rich and the need for more government programs.
The self-professed objectivity proclaimed by her professors must be the truth, and she indicated so to her father. He responded by asking how she was doing at university.
Taken aback, she answered rather haughtily that she had a 90% average, and let him know that it was tough to maintain, insisting that she was taking a very difficult course load and was constantly studying, which left her no time to go out and party like other people she knew. She didn’t even have time for a boyfriend, and didn’t really have many university friends because she spent all her time studying.
Her father listened and then asked, “How is your friend Audrey doing?” She replied, “Audrey is barely getting by. All she takes are easy classes, she never studies and she barely has a 50% average. She is so popular on campus; university for her is a blast. She’s always invited to all the parties, and lots of times she doesn’t even show up for classes because she’s too hung over.”
Her wise father asked his daughter, “Why don’t you go to the Dean’s office and ask him to deduct 20% off your average and give it to your friend who only has 50%. That way you will both have a 70% average, it would be fair and you would both be equal.”
The daughter, visibly shocked by her father’s suggestion, angrily fired back, “That’s a crazy idea; how would that be fair! I’ve worked really hard for my grades! I’ve invested a lot of time, and a lot of hard work! Audrey has done next to nothing toward her degree. She played while I worked my tail off!”
The father slowly smiled, winked and said gently, “Welcome to the Conservative side of the fence.”

This should be posted as a separate article, brilliant.

Les couilles de chien answered last night’s question with:

” I’m getting quite good at it.”

What do you feel you are getting better at?

    • Nige.

I’m getting worse at invoicing but better at being firm with customers

      • “no, I’m NOT sending you an invoice!”

        • Nige.

I’m not that bad with everyone. Only YOU

    • Curly1952

Not sure that I am getting better at anything but I have noticed the older I get the better I was!

I feel your pain re winter golf. Ho hum…maybe I’ll improve next summer. And yes, I am getting better at filtering BS helped by blocking comments from lefty FB friends and canceling the Herald.

Thanks to WO I am much better at avoiding the vacuum cleaner, the window washer and even the garden. They all survive without my continual harassment.

      • Michelle

Haha l thought it was just me Housework is not my strong point
But l did clean the oven the other night……………..out of necessity to stop the smoke alarm going off every time hubby opened the oven door
He now looks through the clean glass door
Mind you it won’t last long

        • JEL51

My sister once accused me of being the wipematic sort but those days are well& truely over ;)

          • Michelle

Yep l used to be good at cleaning the house when the kids were little but there are too many more important things to do now
Life is too short to spend time keeping the house tidy and no one ever visits when it is clean but if it looks like a tip they seem to flood through the door and not even notice

          • JEL51

I nearly died of shock when I was given glasses to wear so whipped around removing fly dirt & mould for days afterwards. So now I need to worry for a while.

          • Michelle

l have been waiting for the flies season to finish so l can have a clean up but there is too much to do outside and l am better at and autumn “spring clean” than when most people seem to do theirs

          • Michelle

Could you please tell me where the access to the mountain is
l can’t get a real answer from the others going and l can’t get anything from google

          • JEL51

From your direction…just passed the turn-off of Charles Walton Rd on your right there is a gate/cattle loading ramp. I think you can park there , opposite Waltrus Down sign, then walk back 100 mtres to go up drive towards old homestead on the bushline. Should be a sign to enter the bush track. Sorry I can’t remember name of owners.

          • Michelle

            Thanks for that

          • JEL51

            Have a great day :-)

          • Michelle

It has now been put off till next weekend as there is a ladder to waterfall or something and will be dangerous

          • JEL51

Oh bugga. We didn’t see a ladder or a waterfall so we must have missed the entry as we suspected when we got back to that driveway. We followed the fence-line up from cattle yard and passed other weatherboard villa which belonged to a friend at the time. The track wasn’t all that obvious and our group of 11 kept finding different possibilities. Hope you do better than we did when you get there.

          • Michelle

we are being led by a tramping group who know the track, so no worries about getting lost, hopefully ;-)
they said it is a moderate tramp 3 to 4 hrs and there are some crevices as well
got an email from friend over your way and she said that you had 31mms last night but sunny now
she is not far from your area

          • JEL51

Ok, first name..? Yep woke when a really heavy downpour so did like a true addict does till 4:30 in the morning…….caught-up on WO gems that time didn’t allow yesterday :-o tragic!!

          • Michelle

Yvonne in your area and Pam is tramping group and just read email again and it is first weekend July
l got up with the rain and put washing out of machine onto drying rack
l dare not open laptop or l would be there till daylight
we were over your way today and saw where you were talking about

          • JEL51

I know a Pam but she isn’t well enough to be in a tramping club so probably don’t know either of your friends. We did a walk over to Peach Cove at Bream Head one time, if you are keen to get some fresh air still.

Relaxing – only just have I realised that my idea of relaxing was doing something else at a 100 miles an hour.

      • Wendy

I have just realised that my idea of relaxing is starting a new work project.

    • Steve (North Shore)

      Counting. (weeks until retirement)

  • D.Dave

I got this on FB from the ‘states today. Does someone there know something we don’t.

    • Timebandit

      Whats that then?

  • Gazza

Gheez that Corran Dann is really pathetic , just watched the news , and he mumbled about housing , then said here we go just one day and housing is back on the news , now from what I can see the housing beat up has not been mentioned by labour all day , they have given up , but Dann seems to think its been big news all day , I am surprised with Simon Dallow , he seems to have joined the media party as well ,
by the way they were not counting the PM’s kick at the Auckland unitary plan

    • Nige.

It must get tiring day after day week after week pretending to get worked up over non issues.

Anyone remember that Panama papers thing from the other week that was going to bring the government down?

They really have sold their souls or something.

      • Gazza

You got that right , are you surprised just how much this was another beat up , and an absolute fail of epic proportions , there actually wasn’t anything at all , it only makes Labour look worse with their parading of what was in the papers

        • Nige.

The part I find most surprising is that no one seems to want to move on. They stay in the job for years and years and are happy to tow the line. Do they not notice that those who have the highest ratings and most prime real estate in terms of paid for advertising are the ones who (not nessisarily tend to lean right) speak their own mind and don’t mind changing it and admitting it when they receive new information?

I’m talking about Larry, Leighton, hosking, McKay, plunket, Devlin, Henry (to a lesser extent these days).

Most of the others are JUST PLAIN FILLER. Seat warmers.

          • Gazza

I always thought Dallow was never showing a left leaning for the boss , but lately he has this incipit look on his face , last night was classic , as if he was absolutely gutted , over something , why god only knows , but its sickening ,

      • Gazza

Anyone remember Keytruda , oh that’s right , little had secret dinners and got handouts to get Labour support for the pushing of this drug , hypocrites comes to mind

    • Usaywot

Yes, I’m disappointed in Dallow too. I thought he was better than that.

      • Gazza

He was clearly more national friendly when reading the news , surely they wont vote on company lines :)

      • Ruahine

He is just an autocue reader that needs to get paid. Toeing the Party Line and doing as he is told. All part of the sham that is the pretend ‘news’ of the MSM.

        • Gazza

He doesn’t need to have the insipid look on his face that never used to be there

    • Elmwood

I opened the backchat session with my view of the man. Must have been too blunt for whaleoil as it has been removed. Can’t agree with you more.

      • Gazza

Really , you don’t think the media party or even KDC have been at it again do you ?

  • Misfit

Go Milo!!!!! who would have thought the strongest voice for white male conservatives would come from a gay man.

    • JEL51

Haha, he has had a rough week but I have only seen a few seconds off footage. I’m guessing that’s because there was no msm present, such is their bias.

      • Misfit

Milo will eat the MSM, he loves the drama, just confirms his points and lifts his profile, much like dirty politics did and that’s why Trump will be president, simply because people now vote against the MSM line even if just for spite.

        • Gazza

Trump could mean curtains to TTPA ! that deal is a must for NZ

          • Misfit

I hope not, im not a massive Trump fan myself, I just like seeing the msm get a blood nose, Trump is pro for ending the war on drugs though.

          • JEL51

Unfortunately that may be the case. Could it still work if the US was excluded?

          • Misfit

if the UK leaves the EU then they will be looking for pals :)

          • JEL51

We are living in really exciting times, that is, if the people allowed/have their way. The elections in Austria earlier in the week failed on the postal votes. I would demand a recount in that case.
I think Trump will choose the better people for the job and then just sit back to stir.

          • MaryLou

            Fair weather friends, though

          • Gazza

Yes but if you do the math and take 350 million population out the deal is well diluted , but there is then a chance the China may come in , I know we have a deal with China but it may strengthen that deal

          • JEL51

We need to be less reliant on the China fta. It is similar to when we fed Britain before the EU thing happening.

        • JEL51

Yeh, it is just lovely listening to the anti-Trump lot having to swallow rats, be it Jack Tame & co on zb or the American commentators who have rubbished him from the start.

          • Misfit

Imagine if Milo spoke at the Otago campus, My god all hell would break loose,The left would literally pop a circuit breaker, all the more reason he should bring his tour here lol

          • JEL51

Let him loose in the hallowed halls of Canterbury ;)

          • Gazza

The gobi Jack tame , scoffed when one year ago Trump announced his intention , tonight he had to say that it is one year to the day since the Trump announcement , he had to say that the world media scoffed at him , priceless

  • Gazza

Its quiet tonight , every body must be on the lash , OH well I will just sit and watch the Landers kick the Canes LOL , I will hi the lash tomorrow :)

    • Hmmm, good point. Let me cue up my sports channel.

      • Gazza

        Channel 51 monkey man :)

  • Wendy

I have something for you to ponder…

The three major determinants of survival of an out of hospital cardiac arrest (heart attack) are:

    * The time it takes to get good quality chest compressions going
    * The time it takes before the first shock is delivered
    * The time it takes to get the person to hospital

Do you know how to give good quality chest compressions? Do you know what constitutes “good quality”?

Does your workplace/sports facility/favourite venue have a portable defibrillator? Do you know where it is? How to use it?

We can all save someone’s life with just a little bit of knowledge and effort.

    • DemocKot

Great advice, I always carry a couple of dissolvable aspirin in my wallet and gave one to my father when he collasped with what turned out to be a stroke.

      • Wendy

Which is awesome if you know it is a heart attack. Not so much if it is a stroke. That could kill them.

    • Asian_driver

here is a site with a list of most publicly available defibralators in nz
      http://aedlocations.co.nz
There are heaps out there , but you need to know in advance where they are.
I started looking at this when I realised half my staff are way overweight and unfit , so the chances are we may need one ,
The quicker you can jumpstart them the better their chances of survival

      • Wendy

I find myself scanning venues I’m not familiar with for the AED sign. I should probably just get one for the car.

        • Asian_driver

I think they are about 3,000, wouldnt sink the boat, would be worth 300,000 if it saved my life

        • Asian_driver

you can use the aed finder on your phone,

          • Wendy

Problem with the site and app is that you don’t want to be using it when you need it. As you say…you need to know in advance given timing is critical.

    • Old Man, Torbay.

Know it. Did chest compression till paramedic arrived, but the patient still died.
Sometimes things don’t work out the way we want.

      • Wendy

        Indeed.

It would be awful to know someone died when I could have helped them but I didn’t know what to do.

    • rantykiwi

I know pretty much what I’m doing and have had more occasions to use the skills than I am happy with. And so far the defib battle has been lost with my employers – apparently staff are disposable.

    • Moonroof

Current cert as first-aider – reqd for electrical licence, not needed yet but good to know current practice, renewed every two years. No defib on site unfortunately, small enterprise.

    • Dave

Yes, completed an advanced first aiders course four weeks ago. I now know enough to get myself into trouble !

  • DemocKot

For those in Christchurch who complain about the roads and the slow repairs think how bad it could be with these guys.. I have seen them put tarseal staright on top of snow as well.
In russia there is a saying, there are two things in russia fools and bad roads.
    begining to see a connection

    • Nermal

Don’t laugh. I’m a road maintenance engineer (retired thank god) and I’ve seen that done.

Also repaired roads to discover 50mm hot mix laid over beautiful volcanic topsoil on a major city street.
Fine as it was slowly compacted by ever increasing traffic over the years, but once it was disturbed it was like Humpty Dumpty, you couldn’t put it back together again. That’s actually happening to a lot of roads nowadays.

  • Wendy

I bought a new tent today.

Listed on a number of sites for $600 – $700, I got a bargain at $250 for the exact same model.

You’ve got to love seasonal sales.

Have you had any bargains recently?

    • Union Jack

Usually they sell “cheap” DVD players at pubs but seems like camping gear is all the rage now ah.

      • Wendy

There was a completely bona fide shop involved in my purchase!

        • Union Jack

          Well good on you.
Last tent I had disappeared at about 2am in a snowstorm in Yellowstone National Park.
Nerves have never been the same since.

    • Moonroof

1/2 price on some nice Italian cookware – casserole pot with steel (not glass!) lid. Testing it tomorrow.

    • InnerCityDweller

      Dyson V6 handheld – awesome!! $200 off

    • Korau

$1200 laptop from Dick Smith when they had their before Christmas panic sale, for $369. Almost bought two at that price, but didn’t think I could sneak that past Mrs Korau.

      • Brent

        Salad shop !

        • Nige.

Good idea. This town needs one. About time you decided to finance one!

      • XCIA

You could always go around to A&E for a check-up ;-)

    • Nermal

Looks like my kind of movie

  • Jude

    …Go Canes!!!!

    • Miss McGerkinshaw

      How did they do THAT!
Hurrumph – I’m for the Highlanders.

      • Jude

So exciting ? Long way to go yet though. :)

        • Wasapilot

Enjoy what will surely be a stunning Hurricanes victory Jude ?

          • Gazza

            Hmm Hmm

          • Jude

            Too close my heart isracing?

          • Gazza

            LOL

        • Gazza

Oh , I cant watch , I am nervous LOL don’t worry , we are not out of it

        • Michelle

l hear they are singing Hey Jude at the stadium,
did they know you were making an appearance, just watching the game now

          • Jude

A lovely omen for the Canes?

    • Gazza

      Go the Landers :)

    • Wasapilot

Just seen this comment on the stuff comentary
“The crowd is a touch under 20,000. They’re a hardy lot these Wellingtonians”
      Go Jude!

      • jcpry

High level of masochism I’d say. Supporting any Wellington team I’d say requires it.

        • MaryLou

What would you say of Warriors supporters, then???

          • jcpry

I think the word to describe them hasn’t been invented yet. But then it is only league.

        • Gazza

Is it not a beautiful thing , I wonder who Angry would be supporting HAHAHAHAHA

        • Wasapilot

Yep, as a 50+ year supporter of Wellington sports teams, I could not agree more.

  • Adam

I’m very glad that Mr Trump won the primary election. What do you guys and gals reckon?

    • Gazza

It is a worry when coming to a trade deal with the states , and the TTPA

      • Greg M

Good on him, and don’t worry about the TPPA, he’ll sign it. If he doesn’t that would allow China to be the dominant party in the Pacific and there’s no way he would let that happen.

    • Nige.

Yeah I’m wrapped Adam. The people are voting for the candidate they want as are the super thingies

      • Nige.

        DELEGATES

    • Wasapilot

When he announced he was running for the nomination I thought this must be a publicity stunt, or he is a democrat mole. I would have bet the house on him getting nowhere in the republican primaries.

Now I think he may be the next POTUS.

I still find it hard to believe, but it may just be a wake up call for politicians around the world, especially wrt muslim terrorist threats being willingly imprted into our country, which I seriously doubt “middle NZ” want.

      • Adam

We have a small Muslim population mainly in Auckland. They would be easy to track. I reckon Trump would bring safety and proper old fashioned justice.

  • Jude

They are playing hey Jude . Low battery hope a good omen???

    • Gazza

LOL I heard that , just before the score became 20 all HAHA

    • hookerphil

Mrs H.P just said that the crowd was singing to you. Very good game considering the rain. In the old days would have been 6 – 3.

    • Gazza

Hey Jude , LOL , do you think the fact that they replaced Supaunga after 57 mins means he is in the All Blacks , he wasn’t injured and he never goes off before 70 mins JUST SAYIN

    • hookerphil

Looks the TAB were right having the Hurricanes favourites, presume you did take them.

      • Jude

Of course I will always back theCanes even if my head is doubting?

      • Wasapilot

The Canes have it in for me, when I back them they lose, when I back the opposition ( Highlanders tonight) they win.

        • Miss McGerkinshaw

So it’s YOUR fault I’m grumpy today!

    • Gazza

      Bugga

    • justhinking

Heard that and immediately thought they were playing it for you

  • Greg M

Another very cool machine from our Russian friends. A new army vehicle nicknamed the batmobile, It’s real name is “Falkatus” it’s said to be based on a KAMAZ base. It has 730 Hp engine and weighs over 12 tons but can run as fast as 200 km/h. ( pic )

    • XCIA

Has uncle Vladimir been watching re-runs of Mad Max?

      • Greg M

This one is in Dagestan which has been a scene of Islamic insurgency, occasional outbreaks of separatism, and ethnic tension since the 1990s. From Wiki ” According to International Crisis Group, the militant Islamist organization Shariat Jamaat is responsible for much of the violence”. The religion of peace again.
Looks like Uncle Vlad is planning on giving Mohammed his beans.

        • XCIA

Uncle Vladimir has never had affinity with the Muslim brotherhood. Whatever he does, you can guarantee mercy will not be involved.

    • Moonroof
