Child porn principal denied home detention

A former Waikato school principal has been jailed for two years and six-and-a-half months over charges relating to child pornography.

Fifty-one-year-old Bruce Darroch was earlier found guilty of four charges including making an objectionable publication and possessing objectionable material.

Darroch stood solemnly with his hands clasped as the court heard how he had shared stories online about his sexual fantasies with boys and shared images of children, including pupils at his school.

The former principal of Te Waotu School was also found to be in possession of hundreds of photos of child sex abuse.

One of his victims and the boy’s mother both shook and hugged as they read victim impact statements detailing the effect Darroch’s offending has had on their lives.

Judge Tony Snell said the extent of harm permeated right throughout Darroch’s community and he could not consider home detention in this case.

Two years six months for making child porn photographs.

It’s not enough.

As much at home writing editorials as being the subject of them, Cam has won awards, including the Canon Media Award for his work on the Len Brown/Bevan Chuang story.  And when he’s not creating the news, he tends to be in it, with protagonists using the courts, media and social media to deliver financial as well as death threats.

They say that news is something that someone, somewhere, wants kept quiet.   Cam Slater doesn’t do quiet, and as a result he is a polarising, controversial but highly effective journalist that takes no prisoners.

He is fearless in his pursuit of a story.
