“I stood guard, a pistol at my hip, outside the Oval Office, the last barrier before anyone saw Bill Clinton”

As seen in the above photo from April 3, 1997, Eleanor Mondale arrived for the premiere of The Saint in Los Angeles. Eleanor died from brain cancer as a 51-year-old in 2011, but a new book by Gary J Byrne, is resurrecting her name and a whole bunch of controversy about the Clintons. It is the same book that told the world Hillary Clinton allegedly gave Bill Clinton a black eye.
The former Secret Service agent Byrne claims, that things got so heated during Bill Clinton’s Presidency over his affairs that the Secret Service discussed the prospect of “domestic violence” between Hillary and her husband. Because of Gary’s close proximity to the Clintons during some of their most volatile days in the White House, the authors’ testimony of his experiences with Bill and Hillary are being closely followed.

‘Having witnessed the personal and political dysfunction of the Clinton White House – so consumed by scandal and destroying their enemies, real and imagined – Byrne came to understand that, to the Clintons, governing was an afterthought.
Gary has likened President Clinton’s alleged revolving door of women, to running a brothel instead of leading the country via the White House.
In  his upcoming book, Crisis of Character, Byrne claims while President Clinton was having an affair with Monica Lewinsky he was also having one with former Vice President Walter Mondale’s daughter, Eleanor Mondale.
In the book, the author writes, “There before us was E! Network host, Eleanor Mondale . . . and President Clinton in a compromising position, that is, making out on the Map Room table.”

According to Byrne, he was “The last barrier before Monica Lewinsky saw Bill Clinton.” Moreover, Lewinsky was jealous of Mondale’s relationship with the President. Bill Clinton’s White House was a seedy “brothel” where the “horndog” President entertained a veritable harem of mistresses, the former US Secret Service agent has claimed.

President Bill Clinton had an affair with former Vice President Walter Mondale’s daughter — while multitasking with at least two mistresses in the White House — according to the Secret Service officer who guarded the Oval Office.

Byrne’s account of walking in on Clinton and the gorgeous Eleanor Mondale, then a TV journalist, is the first eyewitness report of the long-rumoured affair.

“There before us was E! Network host Eleanor Mondale . . . and President Clinton in a compromising position, that is, making out on the Map Room table,” Byrne writes of the alleged Christmas time tryst around the middle of Clinton’s Presidency.

Mondale, who was romantically linked to Arnold Schwarzenegger and Eagles drummer Don Henley, died in 2011 of brain cancer at age 51. She had maintained she and Clinton were “just friends.”

Mondale was the middle of three children from Walter and Joan Mondale. She played a pivotal role in her father’s unsuccessful campaign to take over President Ronald Reagan’s seat in 1984 and in the 2002 campaign, when Mondale took the slot of Sen. Paul Wellstone, who had died in a plane crash prior to the election.

She also appeared in small parts on the television series Three’s Company and Dynasty. She worked for E! Entertainment, ESPN, CBS’ This Morning, the Minneapolis radio station WLOL-FM and WCCO-TV, before co-hosting a weekday morning show with Susie Jones on WCCO-AM.

Mondale was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2005 after suffering two seizures during a camping trip. The entertainment reporter announced in March 2009 that her brain cancer had returned and had surgery to remove the tumour in August of that year.

Mondale was married three times (Keith Van Horne, Greg Thunder and Chan Poling of The Suburbs). Mondale and Poling married shortly after she was diagnosed with cancer.

Byrne’s book, “Crisis of Character: A White House Secret Service Officer Discloses His Firsthand Experience With Hillary, Bill, and How They Operate,” out June 28, depicts a cheating Bill Clinton and an unstable and tyrannical Hillary Clinton.

Leaked excerpts have already rocked the campaign, and Byrne’s account of Bill Clinton’s conquests under his image-obsessed wife’s nose, will surely ramp up the controversy.

“I stood guard, a pistol at my hip, outside the Oval Office, the last barrier before anyone saw Bill Clinton,” Byrne writes. “The last barrier before Monica Lewinsky saw Bill Clinton. Yes, I’m that Secret Service officer.”

Byrne, who testified during the Lewinsky scandal, retells how he tried in vain to stop the Lewinsky affair, getting the young intern transferred to the East Wing to work for Hillary Clinton.

Byrne, who was a uniformed officer, says the president personally directed officers to provide Lewinsky access to the White House for a booty call around the beginning of 1996. The president even provided Lewinsky with a top-secret phone number to reach him directly in the Oval Office.

“We wondered how he got any work done and joked that he would have been better at running a brothel in a red-light district than the White House,” Byrne writes.

The Mondale relationship really set Lewinsky off, making her jealous and reckless, he writes.

On Dec. 6, 1997, the former intern arrived at the White House gate under the pretense of visiting with the president’s personal secretary. The Secret Service officers guarding the gate understood the special relationship the two had and that Lewinsky had arrived to see the president.

Only this time, Lewinsky was denied entry, according to Byrne, who was stationed elsewhere when she appeared but heard of her arrival on his service radio.

“The President is still with another appointment,” Clinton secretary Betty Currie told the gate officer, who relayed the message to Lewinsky.

“Monica, however, still regarded herself quite favourably as the President’s singular mistress. So now she was pissed off. She pressed the officer about the delay and wanted to know why she was left standing in his security booth. He lashed back,” writes Byrne, who was later told of the exchange by a colleague.

“You have to wait. He’s with his other piece of a–. Wait till he’s finished,” the officer told her.

It was clear to all, including Lewinsky, that the President was “screwing with Eleanor in the Oval Office.”

With an unseemly gesture toward her body, an irate Lewinsky responded, “What’s he want with her when he has this?”

But, Byrne writes, “Eleanor Mondale and Monica Lewinsky could not satiate the President’s horndog sexual desires.”

There were others, like the unnamed White House receptionist Byrne literally cleaned up after.

In late 1996 or early 1997, while Whitewater and the Paula Jones affair were being probed by Ken Starr, Byrne was approached by a senior chief petty officer named Nel who had long served in the White House pantry as a steward.

“Does that look like semen to you?” Nel asked, nervously showing Byrne a towel — emblazoned with the White House seal — that he found in the study.

“Yeah, that sure looks like it,” Byrne replied. “What the f- – and who would?

“Nel explained that he’d been finding — and cleaning — semen- and lipstick-stained towels for weeks. I was shocked. If the stains didn’t rinse out, he’d carefully remove them by hand. He was terrified that if he passed them on to other Navy laundry personnel downstairs he’d not only reveal Bill Clinton’s affairs, he’d embarrass the presidency itself.”

Byrne deduced the lipstick was not Monica’s.

“I did not connect the lipstick to Monica at that time,” he would tell investigators years later.

“Did you connect the lipstick to anyone?”

“Without revealing any privileged information on the advice of my counsel . . . Yes, I did.”

“You connected it with someone but didn’t connect it with Monica?”

“Yes,” Byrne said, admitting he believed it belonged to a “West Wing receptionist.”

Believing the Presidency was at stake, he stuffed the towels in a trash bag and disposed of it off the White House grounds.

While the White House felt like a “brothel” — and Byrne believed Hillary Clinton knew of the affairs — the Secret Service had the “nerve-racking” responsibility of maintaining marital peace.

“What if [the first lady] ran into the President with Monica or with another mistress? Would I have to protect the President from his irate wife — or even from a mistress?” Byrne writes.

And dealing with the first lady’s anger was no small matter, according to Byrne, who describes her as a self-centered, tantrum-throwing, physical abuser.

She also knew how to handle a gun. Byrne found Hillary Clinton took a “surprising liking to firearms, especially a Thompson submachine gun, an original and an American classic, Al Capone’s legendary ‘Chicago typewriter.’”

Sometime after Bill’s 1998 impeachment, and long after Byrne left the White House, the Clintons came by a Secret Service training center and Byrne saw “Mrs. Clinton let loose a spray of man-stopping .45 -caliber rounds into the paper, dirt, and berms of our outdoor one-way range.” Smiling, she fired her next shots “right into the target’s crotch.”

Byrne says the Secret Service discussed the potential for “domestic violence” between the Clintons and worried frequently about how to protect the President from his volcanic — and occasionally violent — wife.

Her only concern was herself, Byrne says. “Mrs. Clinton was a joke, taking herself and the entire administration minutiae so seriously. Her ‘brand’ was her only concern. She was a faux leader, all bark, no bite, but in a very real power position as first lady.”

One exchange with her protective detail went this way:

“Good morning, first lady,” an officer said.

“Go f- -k yourself,” she replied.

For Byrne, his dream job became his nightmare. He became ensnared in the impeachment hearings. So why tell the story now?

Because Bill Clinton lied, Byrne says, and “these people were, frankly, so goddamn unprofessional.”

But aside from the affairs, Byrne, said one of his biggest challenges in dealing with the “goddamn unprofessional” Mr and Mrs Clinton was protecting them from each other.

Because of Gary’s close proximity to the Clintons during some of their most volatile days in the White House, Byrne’s testimony of his experiences with Bill and Hillary are being closely followed.

“Over a twenty-nine-year career serving my country in the military and in federal law enforcement, I’ve encountered both heroes and villains. I’ve observed human character at its greatest heights and lowest depths. In any organization, character is defined at the top; it percolates down to the top executives of an organization, to the middle managers, and to the grunts at the front lines. Hillary Clinton is now poised to become the Democratic nominee for President of the United States, but she simply lacks the integrity and temperament to serve in the office. From the bottom of my soul I know this to be true.”

Gary writes that the Clintons were more interested in doing away with forthcoming books and articles that painted them in a negative light than in performing their real business duties of running the country. With harrowing accusations in Byrne’s book, it is one that the Clintons likely don’t look forward to being released on June 28.

“The First Couple wasted days obsessing over how to ‘kill’ a forthcoming book (one alleging that Bill Clinton’s mother ran a brothel) or in squashing yet another tabloid revelation. Their machinations and their constant damage control diverted them from the nation’s real business.”

Byrne wrote that he has no animosity towards Bill and Hillary. Gary even claimed that his sense of loyalty ran so deep for the Clintons that he got rid of evidence that could have been used to convict President Clinton during his adulterous days with Monica Lewinsky. Byrne revealed that he was uncomfortable with Monica’s level of access to the West Wing in the White House during the evening hours when she should not have been there.

“The blue dress wasn’t the only evidence of his misdeeds”

Now retired from public service, Byrne is no longer holding all the deep secrets he kept for the former First Family close to the bone. They were secrets that, as Gary wrote, sent him home to his own wife, Genny, to give her deep hugs and profess how happy he was that they weren’t like the Clintons.

The first chapter of the book is titled “The Vase,” and it details how even President Clinton’s press guy at the time, George Stephanopoulos, did not know all the dirty details of the things that went on at the White House at night. The opening chapter describes how Bill showed up with a black eye in the days following a huge argument with Hillary that ended with a broken blue vase. Bill’s black eye was blamed on an allergic reaction to coffee — along with quips about being allergic to the back of someone’s hand.

Gary wrote about his dismay over Hillary and Bill putting themselves in such dangerous situations with each other, all the while Secret Service agents like Byrne were risking their own lives to protect the Clintons.

"I could take my clothes off," Ms Lewinsky says to Mr Clinton in the never-before-heard conversation from 1997. The affair between Ms Lewinsky, then a 24-year-old White House intern, and the married President led to Mr Clinton's impeachment. Ms Lewinsky can be heard playfully teasing the President and suggesting numerous meetings in a tape that was previously thought to have been destroyed. The conversation took place months after the relationship was supposed to have ended. "Since I know you will be alone tomorrow evening, I have two proposals for you, neither of which is you not seeing me," she can be heard saying. "I could take my clothes off and start, well, I know you wouldn't enjoy that? "I hope to see you later and I hope you will follow my script and do what I want. "You can't refuse me because I'm too cute and adorable and soon I won't be here anymore to pop over." She then asks the President to have his assistant change his schedule to more easily facilitate their secret meetings. "I'm very persistent, but um … I really want to see you," she said. The scandal was exposed in 1998 after Ms Lewinsky confided in Linda Tripp, who then began secretly recording conversations between the intern and the President.

‘You can’t refuse me’: In 2013, a taped conversation between former US President Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky revealed new details about the high-profile affair. In the recording, which was made after the one-time White House internhad already hooked up with Clinton numerous times — but before the scandal broke. Lewinsky was incredibly accommodating  as she tried to talk the 42nd President into a quickie. She said they could rendezvous for 15 minutes, 30 minutes, whatever worked for him — and they could arrange it so word wouldn’t get out.”I could take my clothes off,” Ms Lewinsky says to Mr Clinton in the never-before-heard conversation from 1997.

She then asks the President to have his assistant change his schedule to more easily facilitate their secret meetings.

“I’m very persistent, but um … I really want to see you,” she said.

The scandal was exposed in 1998 after Ms Lewinsky confided in Linda Tripp, who then began secretly recording conversations between the intern and the President.

The racy audio recording was thought to have been destroyed many years ago — but it emerged Wednesday, July 31, 2013, like a ghost from Bubba’s past.

The copy was surreptitiously made by someone hired as a cleaner by people close to Lewinsky, the tabloid reported.

She addressed the recording to “Handsome.”

The intern, whose relationship with Clinton led to his impeachment, ordered her powerful paramour to set up a rendezvous and cover it up with help from his secretary. Lewinsky, told Clinton to make his secretary, Betty Currie, a co-conspirator. She was working at the Pentagon at the time the recording was made.

Byrne was one of the Secret Service agents questioned by a Grand Jury about Bill’s dealings with Monica Lewinsky in 1998.

According to the Washington Post article published on the hearing Byrne complained to then-White House deputy chief of staff Evelyn S. Lieberman about Lewinsky’s actions in 1996.

Ms. Lieberman has said she removed Ms. Lewinsky from her White House job in April 1996 because of ”immature and inappropriate behaviour.”

An aide to Ms. Lieberman, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed that Mr. Byrne had issued a warning about Ms. Lewinsky and that Ms. Lieberman had removed her shortly afterward. But the aide said Ms. Lieberman had received similar information about Ms. Lewinsky from other sources and had acted based on several warnings. He claimed that he saw Lewinsky in the West Wing of the White House when she was not authorized to be there.

Byrne also expressed concerns about Ms Lewinsky’s after-hours access to the West Wing, which houses the President’s Oval Office and the work spaces of the most senior White House aides.

Since her husband’s administration ended. Secret Service agents assigned to Hillary have slammed her behaviour.

In investigative journalist Ron Kessler’s explosive book, The First Family Detail, he claims that agents saw her as one of the most detested assignments and believed her marriage to Bill was ‘fake’.

It reveals how both current and former agents strongly dislike being on Mrs Clinton’s detail, while also revealing how they felt about protecting Chelsea Clinton and Bill Clinton. In the book, Kessler presented Chelsea as someone who not only respected and appreciated her agents, but also was a model protectee.

The former President is described as a difficult chief executive who is also easygoing in the book.

However, Hillary is exposed as being the complete opposite of her husband and daughter, and instead is reportedly very rude and acted nasty toward a number of agents.

‘Hillary was very rude to agents, and she didn’t appear to like law enforcement or the military,’ former Secret Service agent Lloyd Bulman recalled to Kessler.

‘She wouldn’t go over and meet military people or police officers, as most protectees do.

‘She was just really rude to almost everybody. She’d act like she didn’t want you around, like you were beneath her.’

Kessler explained in the book that when Mrs Clinton is in public, she smiles and acts graciously.

‘As soon as the cameras are gone, her angry personality, nastiness, and imperiousness become evident,’ he wrote.

‘Hillary Clinton can make Richard Nixon look like Mahatma Gandhi.’

His book also revealed how Mrs Clinton allegedly didn’t like the attire military aides wore.

‘Hillary didn’t like the military aides wearing their uniforms around the White House,’ one former agent recounted to Kessler.

Dan Emmett, who began covering President Clinton on his first day in office in January 1993, said Hillary was arrogant, never said ‘thank you’ to the agents and treated them like ‘hired help’.

In his 20014 book, Unlimited Access, he says Bill was a gentleman in comparison.

As damning as Byrne’s comments on Mrs Clinton may be – “a faux leader (whose) ‘brand’ was her only concern” – it might be his appraisal of the pair’s ability to operate at the highest level that hits hardest.
