Six people have died after a mass shooting in a German shopping centre.

At least three suspects armed with rifles are still at large in Munich after the shooting at a shopping centre, the city’s police force said.

People have been urged to stay indoors and the city’s metro network has been shut down.

Police described the scene as a ‘rampage’ at the Olympia mall in Munich this afternoon.

Footage from the scene shows a man firing shots as people flee. Further video shared on Twitter showed people running away, with an evacuation in place and the surrounding roads closed off.

Police confirmed that at least six people were killed, with an unknown number injured.

Staff in the shopping centre were still in hiding, an employee told Reuters. ‘Many shots were fired, I can’t say how many but it’s been a lot,’ the employee, who declined to be identified, said from inside the mall.

‘All the people from outside came streaming into the store and I only saw one person on the ground who was so severely injured that he definitely didn’t survive.

Information remains very fluid, and nothing has been officially confirmed

The whole scene is very confused at this point. CNN had a woman on the phone who claimed to have been inside the McDonald’s who said the shooter shouted “Allahu akbar,” but the video being looped endlessly shows a person who doesn’t obviously appear to be Middle Eastern, though it’s hard to tell.

From CNN

A witness who will only be identified as Lauretta told CNN her son was in a bathroom with a shooter at the McDonald’s. “That’s where he loaded his weapon,” she said. “I hear like an alarm and boom, boom, boom… And he’s still killing the children. The children were sitting to eat. They can’t run.” Lauretta said she heard the gunman say, “Allahu Akbar,” or God is great. “I know this because I’m Muslim. I hear this and I only cry.”
