Comment of the Day

I was raised by a generation that believed in “doing your dirty laundry at home”. It is in fact my fundamental criticism of the ‘outrage’ displayed by the left of politics. The yelling, the protesting, the whining, the crying. The keyboard warriors on social media, the pimping of poor and pathetic, the twisting of truth, and omission of facts. All of which I believe to be the difference between left and right-wing behavour.

Now I’m a John Key fan. I believe he is the best politician I have seen in my lifetime. Do I support everything he says or does? Far from it. Do I cringe when I read negative posts about him? A bit.

Let’s face it JK’s Government have firmly occupied the centre-left of many policies to retain power, many of which I am not comfortable with. I am thrown the occasional bone like removing long-term bludgers from state housing, and arresting student loan defaulters.

But in reality we are our own worst enemies. It is beneath us to get all outraged, go marching and toss dildos, all tactics that appear to be the new weapons of political warfare. Let’s face it, under a government determined to please the majority these new weapons are winning battles, simply because they are louder. (And well-orchestrated or supported by MSM.)

So it is beneath this right-winger to scream and yell, and play the outrage game. I firmly believe WO has an influence, and certainly capable of making more noise than me.

National need to hear that many supporters are unhappy. They certainly need to hear that those same supporters will question their loyalty at times. Lessons from Northland don’t appear to have sunk in and this blog might just help us do that.
