A new search engine for independent media

I can no longer ignore the censorship that is now happening on all the social media platforms, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. Even Google my favourite search engine has been accused of censorship. Conservative viewpoints in particular are being silenced, Milo Yiannopoulos the latest Conservative/Libertarian voice to be banned for life from Twitter.

Criticism of Islam, and any material that would expose or question the status quo is now being censored or discriminated against. For example YouTube will take away the monetization of a popular YouTube channel if they don’t want people to view it. This is a very underhanded form of discrimination as it is invisible to the viewing public who don’t know what is going on behind the scenes. Cutting off the financial blood supply to the content providers is almost as effective as taking the videos down or censoring their content.

I read recently that, GoodGopher.com  was created for independent media as a google alternative. It claims to be a propaganda-free search portal.

Using Google as your primary online search engine could be subjecting you to brainwashing and propaganda, as the advertising and information giant actively filters search results to push its own agenda. A prominent psychologist has warned that Google’s “filter bubble” censors certain information from view, promoting confirmation bias and ultimately ignorance of what’s really going on in the world.

Michael Carr-Gregg says the effect of Google’s proprietary web-crawling algorithms and tailored search results narrows people’s understanding of the world, skewing public perception towards what Google thinks is important for them to know. He warns that real world events often fly under the radar in favor of junk-food news like celebrity gossip and reality television, for instance.

Australia’s News.com.au reports that Google’s filter bubble also tailors search results based on earlier search queries, preventing users from pulling up other pertinent information that might not fit into their normal routine of searching habits. Over time, such a system isolates users not only from content that deviates from what they normally encounter, but also from others who think and believe differently from themselves.

…You can think of it like an echo chamber – the content you prefer is the content that Google will provide, mostly in the interest of custom-crafting its advertising to individual users. But the consequence of this is affirming what people already believe and creating an illusory reality that matches their own perceptions rather than what actually exists in the real world.

When I do a search on Google I don’t know what they are hiding from me. If I search for news using goodgopher.com I am much more likely to come across the kind of new Media/ Independent news I am interested in. Also it will not hide things from me based on what I have looked at previously.

…Recent “changes” at YouTube now allow their technocratic management to remove monetization from videos they don’t want people to hear or see. Independent media source, All News Pipeline, has had to appeal eight videos that were stripped of monetization for censorship reasons.

We are Change also revealed how they were being censored in March 2015. “In the last few days we noticed our YouTube numbers take a massive down turn while the majority of our new videos and top videos have been demonetized with no explanation at all. We looked at our website and social media numbers and they were better than ever but for some reason — our YouTube channel took a massive hit.”

Tom Lupshu of the Bunker Report has published a video commentary explaining how YouTube first started removing monetization from his videos. His truthful, down-to-earth videos, which are great learning tools, have even been deleted by YouTube.

Upon further investigation, YouTube’s policy change openly admits that videos will be taken down if they contain “controversial or sensitive subjects and events including subjects related to war, political conflicts, natural disasters, and tragedies, even if graphic imagery is not shown.”

This means that videos will be taken down if they expose human rights violations, democide or any other government and corporate abuses. In other words, Google and YouTube are quickly becoming propaganda arms for those in power. These platforms will not allow people to question and speak out against atrocities like organ harvesting and trafficking, how governments have historically used gun control to make the population compliant and defenseless, or how children have been used and killed in medical experiments…
