Sky UK caught out regurgitating social media hoax

by Nige

Sky UK have been caught interviewing their keyboards and taking fiction as fact after falling for a hoax.

Started by an apparently well known online Twitter troll he made his own mock-up of a graphic format used by the football federation concerned which was picked up by a couple of his followers which was in turn retweeted to Sky sportscaster Mike Wedderburn.

Claims made in the hoax includes the one of the teams had average home attendances of 28 locals and that the striker had served 6 years in jail as a class ‘A’ drug dealer.

“Presenter Mike Wedderburn, a veteran of 18 years on the station, was left humiliated after claiming the Gibraltese part-timers played in front of an average crowd of 28 fans and that they cannot train on Tuesdays as their pitch is rented out to a local metal detecting society.”

If anyone needed proof that “serious” news outlets are letting social media do the reporting for them then here is the evidence.
